The concept that I found most important in module 5 is the adaptive thinking concept. I found this concept important to me because life is full of unanticipated circumstances. To be able to adjust when things do not go as intended, is not only a strength in the Air Force but life itself. The implications of not using this concept are very grave depending on the situation. For example, if Misawa Air Base came under a missile attack from North Korea, and the Airmen stationed at Misawa did not have the repetition of drilling for said attack. The installation could not adapt and respond to the damage to the air field and surrounding area. If the airmen failed in launching planes to respond to the attack, a greater loss of life would occur. I will apply this concept and further my development by making sure to focus …show more content…
It is a must to use adaptive thinking with my subordinates, when dealing with individuals and all of life’s problems. To be an effective NCO, I must be ready to respond to stressful situations involving personnel. My subordinates will appreciate and trust me more, when I can use the cognitive behavior of adaptive thinking to solve unanticipated circumstances. If I can be an adaptive thinker around my peers, I believe it will affect the entire efficiency of the team. I will be able to “think on my feet”, in turn helping my peers out in a situation that requires adaptive thinking. In life, not every situation has an instruction manual. The impact the concept will have on my supervisors will be a deeper amount of trust with more challenges. My supervision will be able to trust me with greater challenges because I am able to be an adaptive thinker. I will be the “go to guy” in any given situation because my leadership believes I can handle myself in challenging, stressful situations requiring
Self-assessment exercise also showed self-leadership skills, such as the ability to listen well, think logically, and make quality and timely decisions. At the workplace, such listening skills facilitate the effective sharing of information between the management and employees. Most importantly, critical thinking is essential in the workplace because it helps solve issues experienced at the workplace (Montana and Charnov 31). A good leader is expected to show the direction to followers as they assume their leader is competent and can provide good guidance. In the absence of a good leader, teamwork can be associated with stumbling blocks due to conflicts. At this time, a team leader needs to think critically to identify ways to solve difficult situations. The aim is to make the team achieve its objectives. For these reasons, logical thinking and creative skills are
It is important for the Army Officer to pay attention to the concepts and theories, and not to fall into wrong assumptions that will divert the solution away of the purpose, mission, or goal of the Army Problem Solving Process. When the Army Officer compares the possible solutions it’s important form him to remember all the background and information, and to keep in consideration all the inferences and solutions. The Army Officer critical thinking must keep his options open avoiding to fall into false assumptions, and needs to keep a good baseline of concepts and theories.
My personal creative thinking profile consists mainly of implementing and clarifying. Based on the "Tapping into Our Creative Thinking Skills to Manage Complex Problems" my first and second preferences are implementer and clarifier, respectively. I have always been an implementer, focused primarily on making moves in order to put ideas to work. I enjoy seeing the results of my plans in action. For example, as the president of Global Brigades, a medical mission’s organization, I spend less time talking about logistics of the mission and more time taking action to make the mission a reality. When the rest of the executive board struggles to plan out details, I focus on making moves and taking it from there. Therefore, I am quick to gear into action, in the hopes that I will learn as I go. I am also very persistent to make my plans a reality. When we needed campus funding for our mission, I made sure I knocked on the dean’s door at least a hundred times to get that funding. I delegated my executive members to meet with all the administrators of our campus to state our case. Finally, my persistence and action oriented attitude, earned us complete funding for our trip. As an implementer, I would often get annoyed when the executive board calls for meetings four to five times a week to discuss the same issues and concerns they have discussed before. I would encourage the team to discuss an issue and solve the issue there and then, in a single sitting. For example, we needed to
As the author states, “Innovation begins with someone being aware enough to sense a new need” (Kanter, 2003). Being a person who has always struggled with adapting to new things, I would definitely benefit from strengthening this skill so that I am equipped with the necessary tools that will allow me to sense when there is a need for change as well as being able to identify the gaps between what is and what could be. Another weak area for me is skill #4: Enlisting Backers and Supporters: Getting Buy-Ins, Building Coalitions”. Strengthening this skill will allow me to bring on board the right people who are needed to help successfully implement the change as having too many people involved with the process could cause a delay in the implementation of the change, or could result in failure. This will require me to communicate my vision in order to find out who is receptive of the change and who is resistant as well ask finding out exactly who I will need to help with the change process.
IT projects can have a lot of different components to them which creates the potential for more risks. These risks need to be identified, analyzed, and addressed as the project progresses (Schwalbe Ph.D., 2014). There are different types of risk that can affect the implementation of a system that will allow people to manage their own human resource information. A positive risks can produce a project under budget or ahead of schedule, while a negative risks can have adverse effects on a project such as going way over budget. There are also some risks that do not have a positive or negative impact on a project. Identifying risks and addressing them is mostly handled by the program manager.
I plan on improving this by learning how to set boundaries and having the confidence to stand up for myself. Another quality that requires further development is my creative skills, as I have stronger analytical abilities. The more I utilize my creative skills the easier it becomes, therefore in order to improve I will continue to embrace opportunities that require me to exercise my creative abilities. I believe that my adaptability skills are efficient, but could be improved. I like to stay organized and plan ahead, so having to make last minute changes can cause me to feel
The co-operative nursing assignment has given me the opportunity to use my critical thinking, decision-making, leadership, and clinical nursing expertise learned throughout the RN-BSN program. “The fostering of critical thinking as one of the terminal learning goals of nursing education based on the idea that critical thinking is important not only in the nursing workplace, but also in nursing education” (Shin, Jung, Shin & Kim, 2006, p. 233). My
This is why it is so crucial that officers learn effective ways to manage stress, find balance, and recognize the signs that a fellow officer needs help.
Having worked in such highly dynamic and demanding settings, I have built strong physical and psychological resilience. Remaining calm in crisis is another key skill I have developed. This has enabled me to stay focused, dynamically risk-assess problematic situations and safely and professionally deal with challenging behaviours on daily basis.
Even in management, critical thinking is essential to having an effective organization. “Nurse managers who are adept at using critical thinking and have the “habits of mind” of a critical thinker are in a good position to assume a leadership role and create the changes that will achieve positive outcomes in health care organizations” (Zori, & Morrison, 2009 p.79).
This additional duty is also beneficial for your more adaptive cognitive preference as it will allow you to analyze the current system, find potential issues and work within a compliant structure to revitalize it. You will excel in this role as you gravitate towards situations that promote your ability to problem-solve within a system and generate new improvements and ideas using the current framework. In return, performing this role will allow you to grow more comfortable as an adapter.
Every day as an instructional aide I use my critical thinking skills when deciding whether an impending conflict will escalate to violent behavior, deciding on how to approach a student Everyday many employees of organizations use their critical thinking skills in countless decisions, critical thinking skills are not the only skills used by employees, but they are the most important. As an employee I use my critical thinking skills when applying to the policies and procedures of my organization, making determinations, making predictions and problem solving more so on-the spot decision making, and
The Behavioural approach (also called the learning theory) focuses on the belief that our environment, e.g. people, experiences and learning, influences the development and behaviour of an individual whilst thinking the internal functions, such as thoughts and cognition, are impossible to observe, so they are not apart of the scientific approach to psychology. This theory is also based on the concept of ‘explaining behaviour through observation. Behaviourists assume individuals are born as a blank state (tabula rasa), meaning they do not think biology and cognitive functions influence our behaviour, only our environment does. A large idea that the theory hold is that behaviour can be broken down into stimulus-response units. Stimuli are anything environmental that triggers an individuals’ senses, for example, a student being asked to complete an assignment (stimulus) would respond by completing the assignment. Stimulus-response theories form the basis of classical or operant conditioning, which suggests animals and humans can learn through the relation of a response to any certain stimuli.
The Behavioral Learning Theory believes that behavior is learned from either the environment, the people in the individual's life, the media, or society as a whole. This theory contradicts the Biological theory, which states that criminals are "born to be bad" and that criminal behavior is inherited. The behavioral theory looks at the environment as well as society's impact on how an individual acts which might be the reason for criminal behavior. This theory blames the environment as well as the individual by saying it is a learned behavior and that it also was a choice they made. A basic assumption is that behavior is learned and modeled by individuals, groups, the media, and society as a whole.
Behavioral Learning Theories Most theorists agree that learning occurs when experience causes a change in a person's knowledge or behavior . Behaviorists emphasize the role of environmental stimuli in learning and focus on the behavior, i.e., an observable response. Behavioral theories are based on contiguity, classical and operant conditioning, applied behavior analysis, social learning theory and self-regulation/cognitive behavior modification. Early views of learning were contiguity and classical conditioning.
