Do one thing every day that scares you” is the most influential piece of advice I have ever heard. Although I never met the speaker Eleanor Roosevelt, I feel as if she was saying it straight to me. As someone who seeks adventure, this could not be better advice. I think of this quote every time I am nervous to try something. You can apply it to small choices or big decisions. Having the courage, you need to do something that frightens you is why I think this advice is beneficial. This guidance pushes you to be different because it dares you to stand out. If you are nervous for an interview or a big performance, this can give you the courage you need. When I am worried about a class presentation, I just whisper it to myself till I have
The inspirational quote that really stood out to me was made by H. Jackson Brown, Jr. His quote was "The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today". While I was looking for a quote this one really stood out from the rest. It really got my attention because of how much I can relate to it. I feel like this quote is trying to disseminate the point that when times get tough just take it one day at a time. You don't need to worry about everything all at once, just deal with one thing at a time. If you try and deal with everything all at once, you'll proliferated with a huge amount of stress. You'll end up being overwhelmed with it, and you wont be able to function normally.
Mae West, an American actress and screenwriter, once said that “you only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough”. However, people have different philosophies of what the “right” way to live life is. Priorities and routines differ for most people and some believe that because the way that they live works for them, they should encourage other to live in a similar way, like Thomas Jefferson, Machiavelli, and Pema Chodron. While Jefferson and Machiavelli exhibit strong arguments through their use of argumentative strategies, Chodron’s document “Start Where You Are” is the most effective of the three in terms of evidence-usage, connecting to the audience, and overall
Traits, they can be very important in a child’s life. Some traits define who we are and who we will become. Most of the people who have the ability to develop these traits into a road of success do not know they have the power to do so. These traits develop a mindset; a mindset that helps a child’s brain to develop into not only wanting to but actually accomplishing striving success. Many of us don’t realize or have even heard of such factors in life until we are adults and now all we have to think about is which mindset we have and how can we fix
The best thing I did in my life is I haven’t died when I thought about dyeing.
“Courage doesn't mean you don't get afraid. Courage means you don't let fear stop you” (Hamilton 208).
Have you ever had a bad day to the point where you just want to give up? That one day where it seems like nothing is going your way? Its always important to never give up even if you think nothing could go any worse. More than likely your problems could actually be way worse than they are. “Am I dead? I actually have to ask myself this. Am I dead?” (19). If a life is taken for granted, one day you will regret not perishing these moments with your friends and family. In If I Stay, Gayle Forman talks about the importance of never taking a day or a person for granted, which could help you with interactions, changes and things we learn on a day to day basis.
As I was reading about this scholarship essay, my first thought was, "I have no clue how to write an essay about a quote." I was sitting on my computer reading through all of the wonderful Dr. Parker quotes on Inspirational Advice for Daily Living, and I read the following quote, "There is no situation that is beyond the reach of faith." I just looked at that small sentence. I read it over, and over again, and realized how much those words relate to my life. I grew up in a fairly religious family. My Uncle is a pastor, and my whole family was very involved in our own little community church in Eagle Lake, MN. We have been taught to put our faith in God, and to trust in him no matter what. Our church has recently been all but completely dissolved.
“I walk slowly, but I never walk backward.”-Abraham Lincoln. This quote is amazing I think it states that we should focus on the pass but be excited for the future. “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” Abe is a very successful person, he is mainly known for being the president.
The universal quote i chose was from someone who i admire and looked up to as a role model. The importance of this quote is to give motivation to others who are scared to take a risk buts its ok
I love this quote because it encompasses several valuable life lessons. For example, it has taught me to be hopeful and optimistic for my future, even when everything isn't so peachy. Back when I was seven years old, I played softball. During one of the first few games, my team was falling behind and everyone was
It has always surprised me how much you can learn about yourself by taking risks. Whether the risk you take is large or small, the impact can be immense. I have noticed that every notable risk I have taken has been followed or even preceded by a time of meditation and self-discovery. While it may sound corny or clichéd to some, learning about how you handle the decisions you make can greatly affect how you handle difficult choices that you may face in the future. The knowledge of yourself that you gain can be as miniscule as a new preference of music or food, or as impactful as a new chapter of your life beginning as a door closes in your past.
So, how do we solve the fear problem? I first heard it from Stephen Covey, the writer about the habits of successful people: "Swallow a frog every morning. After that, everything else looks easy!"
“The brave may not live forever, but the cautious do not live at all” -Meg Cabot
“Happiness isn't about getting what you want all the time. It's about loving what you have and being grateful for it.”
The best advice that I ever received from a mentor of mine was that instead of trying to be the best at something you should instead focus on being a well-rounded person. That is the way that I have tried to live my life and it has led me to great success thus far. This is the primary reason why I support students taking classes outside of their major. It leads to much more well-rounded adults who are knowledgeable in many different subject areas. Even though it may not be that enjoyable, taking classes outside of your major introduces you to a wide range of knowledge. Socially it helps you interact with a wide range of people in all kinds of different social settings. You are able to speak intelligently to many different people about a plethora of different subjects. Additionally, it is important to consider that a majority of people choose a major based on what they are good at and are interested in. For many people math classes are very challenging. If we left those people to their own devices they would probably never take a math class again. Now math is obviously a very important skill regardless of your future career choice and it’s a class that everyone should take. Even if it may not be that enjoyable. The same goes for all subject matters. For me personally its history. I am not a big fan of history classes. However I am glad to have taken all of the ones that I have. They have taught me lots of important things about the world that I live in. These classes have
