Sitting in front of the computer, I typed in the very first letters that began my adventure of endless exploration, discovery and creation. Two words flashed before me on the screen. 'Hello World'. Perhaps, that's where my journey began. It was fourteen years ago that I was first introduced to these wonderful machines called computers. One fine day, all of a sudden, my father reeled in a bulky grayish-yellow box. Although it seemed quite intimidating and dull at first, we became the best of friends- spending majority of our time together, him seated elegantly on the desk and I, who had somehow managed to squish myself in the drawer of the same. At that time, I barely understood the potential that box of mysteries held. Nevertheless, every click, every window- even those annoying popup adverts- amused me. Yet fate brought our friendship to a standstill when I went back to my home country, India after having lived and studied in Saudi Arab since birth. It wasn't until 6 years later that it decided to greet me again. Our meeting felt quite surreal. Fumbling around in my mother's prized bookshelf, the then nine-year old me discovered a treasure. It's pages were tinted and torn but its cover had the picture of my estranged friend and a cryptic acronym "HTML". After going through its pages for an hour, I finally decided to type out whatever knowledge I had acquired on my mother's laptop. Twenty minutes later, my most treasured masterpiece was ready- my first 'webpage'. It was
The first versions of WWW ((what most people call “The Web”))) provide means for people around the world to exchange information between, to work together, to communicate, and to share documentation more efficiently. Tim Berners-Lee wrote the first browser (called WWW browser) and Web server in March 1991, allowing hypertext documents to be stored, fetched, and viewed. The Web can be seen as a tremendous document store where these documents (web pages) can be fetched by typing their address into a web browser. To do that, two im- portant techniques have been developed. First, a language called Hypertext Markup Languag (HTML) tells the computers how to display documents which contain texts, photos, sounds, visuals (video), and animation, interactive
Allies are those who help you achieve your own goals that yourself or others had set for yourself. I have many people who are always there, but my main allies would be my mom and my cousin Avery. They both help me in times of stress from school or other activities. Though Avery may not live near me, because she lives 6-7 hours away, every chance I get to see her always brings a smile to my face; she is always smiling, laughing, or trying to keep a straight face that ends in laughing for both of us. Though she is a little girl, she is full of joy and happiness that is contagious to everyone around her. My mom is another person I am really close and similar too. We quarrel at each other, but at the end, she is always there with advice which always helps. She is encouraging, motivational, and assuring. Both of them mean so much to me and I view them both as my best friends and my go-to allies.
For people in my own age group, our oldest memories of computers are most likely the pinball game on Windows XP, and Google’s website showing a different font. A little earlier than that, documents were saved on floppy disks instead of USB drives, and before that, network connections were made over a phone line. However, it is hard for anyone to imagine a time when having “‘a computer on every desk and in every home’” was regarded as an impossibility, even if they remember those years (Academy of Achievement). The personal computer has evolved into an essential tool in the daily lives of most Americans, because of the wave of innovations that Bill Gates kicked off in 1975.
Today, computers are found everywhere and people rely upon them for travel directions, entertainment, purchasing products, and social interactions.
We have many people that we say are our friends and some we consider to be our as best friends. Those so called best friends are the ones we can count with our fingers, which then turns out to not be a lot. However, in my experience we can’t always expect good outcomes from either one of them. We are better off not trusting anyone but yourself, since your best friends are the ones that end up hurting you the most. However, I didn’t lose a friend, I just realized I never had one. In every friendship, we are risking the chance of being betrayed, we need to be careful how much trust we give.
My involvement with Best Buddies and UT SEEK (Student Engineers Educating Kids) has strengthened my appreciation for people of different backgrounds and conditions.
Pryor to undertaking this activity I did not understand the basic skills required in order to make computer use easier. In the past I completed computer task based off of head knowledge and at times I would find myself completing my assignments in long periods of time. Though technology has improved I have become comfortable with old technology and have not tried to explore current updates until now. When presented with the opportunity to update my computer I would often not take advantage of the opportunity. This assignment allowed me to have a hands on experience that assisted me in learning the basic use of a computer.
Developing Web contents involves shaping and making many choices involving technical, aesthetic, and usability concerns. With the expanding technical options for communication on the World Wide Web, it is tempted to focus only on issues such as hypertext markup language (HTML) syntax, page layout, or the latest and flashiest technologies. However, there needs to be a broader approach in order to articulate the information content that is to be conveyed. There is also a need to pay attention to the characteristics and qualities of the Website as a medium for communication so that there are not merely duplicate practices intended for paper and other media.
Credentials: I have been involved in various aspects of the computer use for over twenty years. The fascination of the empowerment that learning how to tame the machine has been feeding over the years the interest in a field, that brought to life evolution of the technologies that have changed our world.
In today’s world it is an indisputable fact that computers and digital devices are a part of our everyday lives. As such they are a part of our society whether they are used for business or for personal reasons. There are many uses for computers. We can
Friendships are fragile because they can shatter quickly, much like glass. Even if you spent months building them up they can still come crumbling down in minutes, and sometimes you realize that the reason it broke wasn’t worth it at all. A four-hour layover in the Atlanta airport is where my story unfolded. Unfortunately, even though it is basically impossible to end years of friendship in such a short time, I can confirm that it is, in fact, possible.
“That the very reason that you shouldn’t. You have been here before so you might be recognized as being connected to Fisk and folk might clam up about things more. Also if word has gotten back here about Fisk and you were known to be with him the night before he died, you might very well find yourself with a belly full of lead or a rope around your neck and I still need you alive. Let me handle this and Ill meet up with you Ok partner?” Ben said and Jeb know deep down that what he was saying was right. They headed off toward their own tasks, each hoping the other would be safe before they reconnected.
I can still recall the first time I assisted in building a computer; it was also the last time I would see my brother. There was a time when computers were abstruse boxes of magic as a child. Lights and information flowed upon screens that stemmed from gray and black boxes, linked only by a few disjointed cables, became captivating. Unfathomably enchanted by blinking lights in synchronicity, keyboard strokes of commands and watching the Internet grow; these machines have garnered something inside. Nick, being sent off to the Air Force academy due to our parents’ divorce, wanted to build a computer to take to school with him. Only, his secret intentions were to build a machine powerful enough to handle Doom to show off to future classmates. During that last week, puzzle pieces of hardware arrived in the mail in brown taught boxes. The time we spent hovering over the sprawled brandy metal frame, poking, prodding and installing components were enlightening. Being
When I was younger, I used to think that all people were good and every friendship that lasted longer than three months was forever. Now, I know that people will not always be what they seem, I might get hurt from friendships, and I have to learn to let go sometimes. I believe in standing up for yourself and your thoughts, even when it’s the harder thing to do. I stand for not letting a toxic relationship define you. This is how I believe in self worth.
It was Tuesday, July 18th. I was a nervous wreck. In desperate need of clothes to wear to impress... her. I begged my best friend Todd to join me at Woodfeild mall. He gave in and we went. Todd and I shopped for hours. Nothing looked good enough for...her. We were running out of time. I made-do with four short sleeve shirts from Champs and two pairs of sweatpants shorts from h&m. The total came out seventy dollars. We walked out and got into Todds car. I was shaking the entire ride home. Will she like it? Am I going to look fat? What about my acne? What if she doesn’t end up liking me? Nothing else crossed my mind as we pulled up to my house and I was dropped off. There was around an hour and a half until I had to leave. I walked inside
