The back cover gains desire and action in teenagers through the blurb. The rhetorical question, “But is this enough to change him?” stimulates desire because teenage readers are tantalised by the question and are eager to find out what happens to Scrooge after the three spirits visit him. My blurb is also effective because it focuses on the outline of the story without disclosing too many details of the book. This makes teenagers want to read the book to discover what the ending will be. I have also included a barcode and ISBN number so readers have the opportunity to buy the book or order it online.
The font of the text on the front cover, and throughout the book for that matter, is in an untidy scrawl that is both important - in that it is in a bold font and is a demanding colour (either black or white) - and is informal, imperfect, personal and human - in that it is handwritten. These aspects combine to show the picture-book
Initially, the cover and title page of the book both play a key role in the layout of the story. On the cover, the artistic style of the illustration looks like a cartoon and a painting. This style is very realistic because of the situation portrayed on the cover; yet playful at the same time because of its comical vibe. The cover also looks three-dimensional and the author seems to be using a straightforward perspective of art. This idea is led be true because the child, wall, and table with the fishbowl are all facing towards the reader. The title is also as large in font as the child and fish bowl are. This shows that the cover is relatively proportional in both text and pictures.
Literature teaches kids to feel empathetic for each other. A story allows the reader to put themselves in the character’s shoes and gives us a different perspective on the character’s life. It also shows the reader not to judge someone by their cover because you never know what outside factors are affecting them. For example, Daphne's book is about a shy girl named Daphne, commonly known to others as Daffy Duck. She was raised by an impoverished, mentally ill grandmother, so the other kids would make fun of her. Instead of sympathizing with her, kids pitied her and called her names. “These are the experiences for a young person in which the sort of commonplace
When readers read a story written by an author they will usually think that the author likes to read books and is what led the author to writing a book. William Goldman said, “As a child, I had no Interest in reading” (Goldman 3), this can lead readers to imagining the author as a young child rather than an adult not wanting to read a book. When Readers imagine the author as a young child the image imagined can give a better sense of how the author felt as a young child. The imagination of a child giving the reader a picture to think about is less complex than that of a adult giving a reader a picture to think about.
From short stories to fantasy and horror novels the ‘science fiction author’ Ray Bradbury entertains millions with his works. Known from his most famous novel Fahrenheit 451, “ a dystopian study of future American society in which critical thought is outlawed” (“Ray Bradbury” 1). Bradbury was not solely tied to novel writing ‘he had many irons in the fire’ he had several article published in numerous newspapers, he wrote many screenplays for movies, and also created his own HBO television series. “He wrote numerous screenplays and treatments, including a 1956 take on Moby Dick. In 1986, Bradbury developed his own HBO television…” (“ Ray Bradbury” 1) . Bradbury’s life works still touch and entertain millions of people, his timeless words shall ring for eternity.
Katie was given the Brigance Sentence-Writing Grade-Placement Test on 4/13/2016 which measures the highest grade level a student can construct sentences accurately in content and mechanics with given grade level vocabulary. Katie received no prompting to review her work other than to ask her if she was done so her work could be checked to determine if she could continue to the next sample. Based on her overall performance, Katie was able to compose accurate sentences up to a 6th grade level. Katie correctly capitalized the beginning of every sentence and applied the correct ending punctuation. In all of her samples, she missed one comma which was after the dependent clause in a complex sentence. None of her errors affected the meaning of her
Ray Bradbury illustrates how much power a book has in it by showing how it has affected actions of the characters. The author includes, “I'm afraid of children my own age... My Uncle says his grandfather
This book cover is appealing to me because it shows a peaceful farm with clouds hovering above it. The cover depicts the first part of the novel when Claude is one his farm in Nebraska. It shows his farm and his fortunate house in the view, and has peaceful shades of color making it an attractive book cover. I chose this image because One of Ours by Willa Cather has several different book covers. This is one of the most appealing to me because they not only provide a pretty picture but provide an illustration of events that occurred in the novel. This book cover, in particular, illustrates the days that Claude had on the farm in the first two parts of the novel. It is also the farm that Claude grew up in so it would only be logical for it to provide a feeling of tranquility and calmness when looking at a hometown. It may even remind someone of their own hometown, and all of the joys and memories made as a child.
Throughout time, books change themes and focuses. As the world progresses socially and politically, so do the ideas that inspire authors. This is apparent in children’s books. Children’s books are books chosen by parents, to read to their own children. They usually reflect the ideals and views that they wish to pass down to their children. A is for Activist was published in 2013 and was written and illustrated by Innosanto Nagara. Eric Carle’s ABC was published in 1974 and was written and illustrated by Eric Carle. These two books differ in publication by 34 years. Although A is for Activist and Eric Carle’s ABC are both ABC books, they have many similarities and differences.
The cover of a book is the first tangible reflection of what a reader may encounter when they pick the book up. Greg Camfield says, “the physical presentation of a piece of literature gives us essential clues about how we are intended to read it” and as I hold all three chapbooks the first thing that strikes me is that “The Branches, the Axe, the Missing” by Charlotte Pence does not have the same inviting tone that the other two books possess. Pence’s chapbook is presented in the shape of a novel and has a slick cover. The graphic on the front lacks the color that would invite a reader to investigate the contents. The other two chapbooks are awash in color and context that is alluring and inviting. When the chapbooks were first handed out my

Each generation it is harder to get kids and especially teenagers into reading books. They posses easier and more fun ways of entertainment than just a book. But books are the basic way that human beings get their education, and its necessary for them to still exist. Even if they do get interested in a book, it will usually be about a current event, because it is much harder to make kids and teens interested in history. This is why reading John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men isn't the best choice possible to get teenagers eager to read. This book is about two men, in 1930’s who are looking for work and encounter disasters. Not only is the Historical Fiction genre the most appassionate for teens, but also, that they would much rather read a book, that might help them with problems nowadays. Jeffrey Archer’s book, Not a Penny Less Not a Penny More is a better fit for teen, because of its genre, because of its themes, and due to the interest level to a contemporary audience. Jeffrey Archers novel is about a short and fat polish immigrant that changes his name to Harvey Metcalfe, who starts from the bottom until he becomes a millionaire. One of his
I think she started to cry because she knows that it might be another 7 years before the sun comes out. “It had been raining for seven years.” (Bradbury, 155). The sun is very good for you as it gives vitamin D. Vitamin D is important for growth and development in your bones and teeth. She might be thinking that she will start to lose bone and teeth strength over the years. She probably also doesn’t like the cold rain on her face so she may be crying because of that. “A few cold drops fell on their noses and cheeks and mouths.” (Bradbury 160) I know how she feels because I hate that too. Also, I know this from
This charming story reverses the typical roles within a children’s book. With underlying issues of stereotypes, independence and empowerment, it fills children with imagination and teaches them the importance of being strong, smart, and the realization that beauty comes from within.
The general message is of more importance than the details and overall enjoyment. Similar to hornbooks, which were design to indoctrinate young readers. On the other hand, I agree more with the bachelor who sees children’s literature as a form of entertainment that can teach lessons. Similar to the idea of, A Pretty Little Pocket Book – Instructions with Delight. Furthermore, the bachelor does not believe that children’s literature should pander or caudle children but expose them to some measures of cruelty, unfairness and violence which they may experience in
