I have always been a very driven person in all aspects of my life. I have tried to exceed standards, going above and beyond expectations by pushing myself to do my best. There are several factors that have contributed to my academic performance including involvement in events and activities dealing with the Spanish language and culture, past job experience, participating in Educators Rising, and sibling rivalry.
My brother was an excellent student and did well in everything he participated in; he was a top athlete in our school and top of his class in high school with a 4.0 grade point average. He, also, had taken rigorous courses. I wanted to live up to and exceed the standards that he had set for me as I was growing up. This combined with my personal drive helped me maintain my 4.0 in school while taking advanced courses and participating in several extracurriculars such as volleyball, softball, Spanish club, Student Council, and wrestling statistics.
Another factor that has contributed to my academic performance was participating In Educators Rising. Through this organization, I have had several opportunities to expand my knowledge of education and the teaching profession. One experience that I found very informative was a visit to an elementary/middle school in Sauk Prairie. We were able to see how they integrated technology and different teaching methods into their classrooms. This has helped me form my own opinions and philosophies with education as well as making
Growing up, I have been an individual who has pushed myself beyond the minimum requirements in order to succeed. In high school I excelled in both academics and athletics. I graduated in the top 10% of my class and lettered in hockey and tennis my sophomore, junior, and senior year. I worked hard and put in extra time in order to set myself apart from others. Succeeding in both school and athletics made me a responsible, reliable, and an organized individual. These experiences made me a versatile individual and have given me a work ethic that has benefited me with my academics in college and with my work and volunteer experiences.
Being the first in my family to have gone on to higher education, education has always been equated to have a high level of importance in my life. From my early years in grammar school and high school, I have excelled in everything I put a determined mind to. As such, I earned a 4.0 G.P.A.
Ms. Bennett reported that she felt she was managing her schoolwork relatively okay at school. However, she stated that when she was in her forth grade, the school involuntarily placed her in Individualized Education Program (IEP) even though she did not feel the need. Ms. Bennett admitted that she is in fact a slow learner, but that she felt “indifferent” from other students. She reported that the teachers from the IEP did not do anything to teach the objective material but allowing a group of students, including Ms. Bennett to watch a series of movies during class for the entire grades since the beginning of the placement. She described that no one was encouraged to learn in the IEP classroom, and furthermore, their classroom was located in the back of the school behind all the classrooms for the regular curriculum as if the students in the IEP were not important. Ms. Bennett explained that she was able to obtain passing grades regardless of what she did in the classroom.
While I have learned the importance of hard work, I have also been taught the importance of taking care of my academics also. Throughout my school career, I have been enrolled in many of the honors
I have, honestly, always performed to my best ability in all of my classes and I will continue to strive for excellence at Bishop Noll. I am very motivated and extremely hardworking in the classroom. My elementary and middle school grades on a difficult scale and is very competitive, but I have always managed to get high grades. My two older brothers have always motivated me to perform my best in school, and if I didn’t have them to push me I definitely would not have the self-determination and stamina that I do now. I have been on A or A-B honor roll for as long as I can remember but that is not because I am gifted or extraordinary, it is because I work extremely hard, have had excellent examples and teachers, and am incredibly motivated. I am very proud of the grades I have gotten and the work that I have done at my current school, and I look forward to achieving all of the goals that I have for myself in high
In fact, over the last four years of my life, I’ve seen myself more determined than ever to carry out the goals that I set for myself, such as graduating from college. In these past four years of high school, I have proven to many that my work ethic is second to none. For example, I have kept a 4.0 grade point average while taking college level classes. This characteristic of mine has driven me to work hard to succeed in school and towards my obligations
My school was small and lacked programs to motivate students. Although parents and teachers always told me to get good grades, I never had the opportunity to participate in programs that
This class has overall been one of my favorite classes that I have taken over the past four years five years at DeSales. I learned more than I expected and have implemented some of these learned lessons towards simple excel calculations into my work at my job. For my chosen project, I decided to take a look at one of my hobbies. During my senior year I took a personal finance and discussed with one of my professors about my collection of trading cards. The result of this conversation, had me start thinking about the overall value of my collection for insurance purposes and if I ever sold the collection.
As a young student my goal was to fly under the radar going unnoticed. However, time combined with life experiences changed my perspective and I am now very motivated to cultivate my academic skills to reach my full potential. Although I was smarter than most of my peers, as a product of growing up in lower income neighborhoods I was becoming as Rose puts it “ One of those rough-hewn intellectuals whose sources are a mix of the learned and the apocryphal” (3). In other words I was one of those intellectuals who was rough around the edges and my sources were limited to what I figured out along with being doubtful. The more time went by, the more I learned that I was in charge of the outcome of my life, and that I didn’t have to follow the path that was laid before me that so many of my friends and family had taken.
My dedication to my academics is a result of witnessing my parents struggle to make ends meet. As a first generation immigrant, we were not able to have access the same amount of opportunities, due to our lack of knowledge of what was out there and the financial burden of starting a new life abroad. Although, one thing my parents stressed most, was the importance of obtaining an education and putting school as the first priority. In order to make sure that happened,
Between working on homework for many hours into the night and staying after school to get help from teachers, I accomplished and exceeded my goal of doing well in advanced classes. I knew that in the long run my hard work would pay off, but it would also continue helping me in my daily life. Since I chose to make these decisions, I have become a very dedicated, scholarly, and hard working student. Due to these characteristics, I have been able to accomplish many other goals in life, such as pushing myself to learn multiple musical instruments, competing for all conference in track and field against girls twice my size, and receiving leads in many theatre productions. All of these achievements were reached due to the skills I learned while pushing myself to do better throughout my academic career. In the future, I will be able to better achieve my goals and aspirations as a result of my successful years in high school. I now plan to push myself to excel in college, as well as in a future career, all thanks to the effort and dedication I put into my hard work in high
Wow, today is my last class, and I can’t believe I have made it; eight weeks has gone by with a blink of an eye, and English class 099-800 was my most challenging. This was my first semester of college in almost thirty years, it was hard and I feel I gave 100% focus, although if I would have given 150% focus my grades would have been straight A’s I feel. I am still a work in progress, because I have five more semesters to go and I will obtain my goals one at a time by working at giving 150% focus.
In my younger years, I never had to labor to meet academic standards. In elementary and middle school, a weak effort on my part was more than enough to place me at a high academic level among my peers. Once I reached high school, the expectations for me changed drastically, while my mindset struggled to keep up.
Being the first in my family to attend an institution of higher education means a lot to me and as a role model to my siblings, I am inspired to strive for further success.
I was motivated academically. In the last year of middle school, my math grades began to come crashing down. In the past, both skills and worth ethic I showed had placed me in the most advanced class. This class counted as a high school credit, so it was both fast-paced and harder material. This made it crucial to pay attention and thoroughly complete homework. Immediately upon the day I noticed struggles in this course, I turned to the guidance I was given. I decided to take action. In this way, I altered both my attitude
