My Core Values Essay

Personally, it is not difficult to identify the core values that I hold dear, that guide my behavior. It is, however, much more difficult to rank them in terms of their importance to me. If I’m paring down a list of important values that I believe are most influential to me, responsibility, sacrifice, laughter, and integrity stand out as those that simply guide my behavior on a regular basis. If I’m attempting to put them in order, it would be as follows:

Ever since I was a young child, my parents always told me to try my best in school, they always told me this for the reason that they never had the opportunity to have a good job because they never finished school. This event is shaping me to care a lot regarding my education. In addition to that, another event that has shaped me to become the person I am today is that since my parents don’t have good paying jobs they have to work hard to take care of me and my siblings this event has caused me to become a hard working person and to seize all opportunities to live a good life because I don’t want to struggle like my parents.

What do I consider my core personal values? A value can be defined as trait or attribute inherently desired. In essence, they are intangible qualities that are deemed worthy of possessing. Yet, I have never given much thought to identifying what my desirable qualities were as a person. I believe through my life I have I claimed or believed I had values which guided me, but I made these claims without consciously identifying these values. This seems rather problematic. Core values are a person or an organization's fundamental beliefs, these principles prescribe behavior along with helping people understand the difference between right and wrong, “values are what motivate you in life. They are what guide you along the path of fulfilment, so essentially your values are the foundation of who you are” (C.Worsley). These values are important to have because they are what shape you, they make every person unique. Having a spirit of adventure, perseverance, and having patience are only some of my core values.
