The message I’m trying to get across is that as a female a lot of the times we are over protected as a kid that once that transition to college happens, disorientation happens and all these bad decisions start being made. I used alcohol and lifestyle to get my message across. The reason why I chose to write a letter to my daughter is because a mother will always be more thoughtful with her kids and making a letter seem more deep and thoughtful, more than a text message or e-mail would. Having the message being such a hard topic, but usual problem I thought it was important to talk about how females can even get rapped, or take advantage of while being intoxicated. To support my argument, I talked about why females drink and a real life story
Linda Pastan’s poem, “For a Daughter Leaving Home,” displays how a parent views the life of his or her daughter by relating it to their daughter’s first bicycle ride. Her bicycle ride represents the difficult and stressful journey that the girl has embarked on throughout her life. Although the girl is now grown up and ready to start a life of her own, her parent is recalling everything about the girl’s life up to this point.
Meena Alexander’s Grandmother’s Letters and K. Saraswathi Amma The Subordinate both convey the theme of the connection to the past. A Grandmother’s Letters is a story about a woman who found the letters her grandmother wrote while she was imprisoned in India. The Subordinate is a piece about a poor mother that murders her daughter, so her daughter will not have to endure the heartbreak and suffering that she went through as a child and a teenager. Meena Alexander’s Grandmother’s Letters and K. Saraswathi Amma The Subordinate both use formal elements to discuss the connection with the past. Grandmother’s
Abigail Adams thinks the place is ok. The text states, "The house is upon a grand and superb scale, requiring about thirty servants to attend and keep the apartments in proper order." This proves that the people working have to keep the place in order, but it takes alot of people. The text states, "The lighting of the apartments, from the kitchen to the parlors and chambers, is a tax indeed." This proves that the lighting could be expensive looking and may cost alot to keep the lights on. The text states, "Fortunately, a straggling man came up with us, and we engaged him as a guide to extricate us out of our difficulty; but woods are all you can see from Baltimore until you reach the city." This
In the 21st Century, during a period of racial discrimination, a political African American activist, Ta-Nehisi Coates, presents Letter to My Son to insist that the government system needs to be changed so that African Americans could be granted a chance in their community to not be abused and violated by the government. In an attempt to support his claim about injustice of African Americans, Coates reminds his readers that the government system and federal laws contributed to the abuse of a black person’s body and mind in their community. Thusly, Coate’s underlined purpose of comparing the body and mind of a white and black man’s power during the slavery period was to emphasize the change in the government system to give African Americans their rights to be able to live in a society without injustice or abuse. He later adopts a critical and sympathetic tone to simultaneously scare the government to change their laws for all people of African descent in their society.
In our English class we are writing about Time Capsule. First, I will tell you where it will be located, by whom and when it will be opened. My Time Capsule will be located in the Wynwood walls (Miami, FL), and it will be opened after 100 years in 2115 by my grandchildren. Second, I want to tell what things will be in a capsule: 1) Coins, 2) Beats (headphones), 3) Photos of me with my friends 4) iPhone 6s pink or old phone 5) Letter to my children or to my grandchildren. In the letter I will write about how people live now. How we are spending our time, where. I will describe people, what clothes we are wearing, what music we are listening, what food we are eating. I want to write in a letter idea for children to put their things in a time
Letter from an Unknown Woman (Max Ophüls; 1948 United States) is a melodrama film that revolves around a woman’s love for a man who does not acknowledge her existence. Like the other films Max Ophüls directed in America, Letter from an Unknown Woman focuses on “impossible love” (Danks, n.d. p. 98).
“Zenzele: A Letter for My Daughter,” an epistolary novel by J. Nozipo Maraire, discusses social and political African history in the letters sent from a Zimbabwean mother to her daughter. The mother relates lessons she has learned throughout her years living in colonial Rhodesia. Violence, culture, and racism are prominent themes in the letters sent to Zenzele. "Rhodesia", named after a so called "Cecil Rhodes", was under a predominantly white government. Native Africans were banned from all manners of opportunity and enterprise. They were systematically barred from chic-European suburbs except, of course, if they worked as house maids. Blacks lived in a state of constitutionalized racism that limited their education and circumstance. Deprivation, austerity and hard labour was the limit to a black Rhodesians achievement. Until, after years of bloodshed and struggle to obtain equality, the independent state of Zimbabwe was declared. The keys to the kingdom now belonged to the oppressed. However, in the process of ensuring that their children received every opportunity of "western privilege," something went wrong. "Well being" was translated into a material definition of success. A desire to be like their colonial masters sprang up instead of the cultivation and rejuvenation of their own culture; a culture Zenzele’s mother seeks to revitalize within Zenzele. The letters serve as translation, to apply the old language of community and culture to the context of today.
This paper is based on an episode of the television series intervention. The episode I watched was about a young woman called Sarah. Sarah had a normal upbringing, she was always surrounded by a lot of family and friends, and got good grades in school . Her family describes her as everyone 's best friends. The monster in Sarah comes out when she picks up her drink. She hangs out with the wrong crowd, and party too hard. Her boyfriend also has alcohol issues so he is not much help. Sarah now needs government assistance because she lost her job due to her alcohol use. Sarah was not always like this.
This is your father Aaron Rooplal. I know it would be years until it’s time for the both of you to read this letter. First, I want to apologize for being away from you so long. I know this isn't fair but I’m away for this business project in Japan just so that I’m able to provide a financially stable lifestyle for you and your superb mom who has been struggling so much on her own to take care of you both. This business project will be done before no time and I promise to come back with so many gifts for you both and make up for all the lost time.
The non – fiction calls: “Letters My Mother Never Read” by Jerri Diane Sueck is a wonderful piece of writing. Many authors affirm that it is a great literature, including Hemingway, an American novelist and journalist. In the following paragraphs I will discus how well the author handling irony, writing style, and theme through the novel. According to the Hemingway quote: “Prose is architecture, not interior decoration.”, Sueck’s memoir is a great literature because Sueck’s purpose is to encourage people who meet challenges in their life as hers rather than make people honor her.
We knocked on the door of the off-campus apartment, as it opened we were confronted with the heavy stench of alcohol. A young girl was passed out on the living room floor, a pile of empty beer cans filled the kitchen sink, and the deafening music rattled the window panes. A group of girls managed to stumble past us. They waved goodbye to the host, who was handing drinks to me and my sister. It was not my first time drinking. In fact, everyone there was quite experienced – after all, it’s college. Half of the guests were completely drunk, and I had no problem with it. That is, until later that night when my sister locked herself in a room with a guy she had met only a week before. This prompted me to seriously consider the effects of
Lena’s intentions in the first letter was to get to know her pen pal a little bit more. So, she started asking a couple questions. She answered one of the questions I sent her, so I can tell that she read carefully the letter I sent her. I imagine getting to know her pen pal better. There was not that much experimenting in this first letter other than the questions she is asking me. The letter is well written. Moving aside some of the errors its well organized. The words that are used in the paper seem to be words that Lena is comfortable with using, so it’s not that hard for her to write this letter. It could get easier to write each letter as the semester goes if she is learning more in her

From the moment she was born I knew she was different, arriving much earlier than expected, and frightening me to death with her little surprise. Then mere seconds later, after the doctor removed the umbilical cord from around her little pink neck, I heard her soft, sweet cry. In that instant, I knew she would be mama’s little fighter. Now here we are, 10 years later, and she still manages to amaze me every day. My daughter, Alexis, has tremendously changed my life and made me a better person by teaching me patience, showing me strength, and motivating me to improve myself.
Dear world, stop the music. Stop talking. Stop everything because I have to find my thoughts again. I have to think again because if I can 't think, I have nothing. There is nothing for me. I am not beautiful without those thoughts. I am not talented without those thoughts. I am no longer the kid that so many people believed in without those thoughts. I am the dust on the ground that someone should have kicked, someone should have trampled, someone should have spewed spit on, but decided not to because they thought one day it would rain, the sun would shine, clouds would part, and a seed would sprout forth new life from the dust. If only they urged the plant to grow, a flower would open awestricken to the sky.
