In my senior year i've had lots of experience in leadership as I am a Section Leader in my band and im the president of Key club a student lead service based organization that is focused on improving out school and community. An example of my leadership role is that as a section leader I was responsible for teaching incoming freshmen the ropes about marching band. There was a particular difficult freshman who was joining band. This young girl was very shy and did not really interact with others. Many of the other section leaders had tried to encourage her yet she only seemed to brush them off. They were ready to give up on her but I could see that she wanted to care about band but didn't know how to show it because she was so shy. I decided
Firstly, in my Academic Career, I have held a multitude of leadership roles. My sophomore year , I was a class representative for Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, commonly known as FCCLA. It was my duty to alert members and keep them up to date regarding meetings and activities. As a representative of FCCLA, I learned how to work as a unit leader and a team member.That same school year, I ran for the district office of secretary for FCCLA. The nomination and election process, gave me the opportunity to grow and nurture my leadership abilities. It was eminently challenging; but I learned the importance of discipline and hard work. An example of one of my leadership roles was on the first day of class. I was chosen to lead in a group communication. We were presented with an assignment on characteristics of group communication. The assignment involved factors and behavior that contributed to our group. We determined that communication was the most important factor. The skills the group had to establish were a common goal, working together in small groups, and synergy. See Chapter 1. Another example of a leadership role was on the discussion panel project. The project was very challenging and labor intensive. We learned how technology and computer-mediated technology effect communication. See Chapter 15.
Leadership has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have always found myself taking on leadership roles, whether it be by volunteering or coordinating different projects for the benefit of my school or community. Taking on leadership positions has allowed me to develop skills in communication, delegation, and managing multiple tasks and deadlines. As a member of National Honor Society and an officer of Student Council, I am presented with various opportunities to show my leadership skills. For example, I have been in charge of planning multiple pep assemblies for my school. Helping coordinate blood and canned food drives, angel trees, as well as organize an abundance of fundraising events has created a sense of reliability
A leadership experience in what I positively influence others and helped resolve disputes was Link Crew. Link Crew is a program where we help incoming freshmen to high school and show them around school and help them out on anything they need like homework. When I was a link crew leader I helped many kids who had low grades. While I was in this program I noticed that many kids had low grades and didn't turn in work or even their homework I did my best and talked to them about how they will struggle so much to get there credits later on some kids listen and did all their work where they at least passed their classes with a D or C. I had people who I got to meet during this I communicated with many people who joined this program and helped many kids. Students who come to high school think it will be very easy like in middle school but it will get harder each year. Many times I was helping the students I feel like It influenced them to work harder and be better in school and help each other in some ways. Link Crew was such a good program that it was where others students helped other students. I showed many leadership experience by joining this program.
My first leadership opportunity was to teach a cosmetology course at my high school. I focused on teaching the girls the aspects of cosmetology that they find appealing while still getting them to learn the less exciting aspects of the course. This allowed me to create a trip to the local senior center so that the girls could learn first hand how to do certain skills and to really perfect their abilities in a controlled environment. I currently teach cosmetology 15, 25 and 35.
I have been involved in many leadership activities that have built up my character and helped guide me to be the hardworking person I am today. One of my leadership experiences was being a room leader at The Altoona Kids Cafe over the summer. Altoona Kids Cafe is a program that allows children to have a place to eat and a safe environment to spend time in. This gave me the opportunity to not only give to kids in need, but to also teach these children how hard work allows one to succeed. Without being a hard worker, I would not be able to maintain a 3.6 GPA and I would not be able to be a classroom leader.
My personal experiences of leadership started when I was younger, roughly 7 years old, I was elected the captain of my travel soccer team. At the time I didn’t think much of it, nor did I have any extra duties that I was explicitly told that I needed to perform. Later throughout the season, I started to notice my teammates mimicking my styles and techniques and I highly enjoyed this feeling of being looked up to. I didn 't realize until years after that the recognition and pride I felt was leadership. This privilege of being captain was the first time I had realized that people weren 't necessarily following my actions because I was extraordinarily skilled, but because I provided this role model status with my confidence and encouragement. Being a leader has always been extremely important to me. The past few years I have held many leadership positions to deepen my skills as a leader. Some of my most notable leadership positions of high school were that I was the secretary of my class, the secretary of my school’s National Honor Society, a member of the Youth Council for the Teen Leadership Corps, and a Student Ambassador for my high school. I have recently been chosen as a Peer Leader for the College of Business Administration (CBA), meaning that I will be available to help incoming freshman with whatever they may need as they make the transition to college. I was also chosen by the dean to give a speech at one of the largest high school visits for the CBA in order to inspire students to choose to come to Bowling Green. This was a very important experience for me because I had many high school seniors come up to me after the speech and ask me questions and reached out for advice from me. It is important to me that people value my advice because I believe that giving good advice is an imperative part of being a leader.
Throughout my high school years, I have had the opportunity to demonstrate my leadership skills through different organizations and events. I have participated in events such as History Fair, and have been part of the organization of National Honor Society through three years of high school. I was the leader of my History Fair project group when preparing for competition. The organization of National Honor Society has helped me demonstrate my leadership skills through volunteer work meant to help and improve society helping me gain experience as a leader.
Being an older sister, friend, and active student in and out of the classroom, I’ve oftentimes been the person that others look up to for advice or ideas. One specific area that I am a leader in is the Cherokee Art Club. This year I was named group leader, which is a person that guides fellow club members by giving them directions, providing support and encouragement, and making sure that everything is going as planned. I was appointed to this position because of my dedication and effective leadership skills last year. Because of all the clubs and activities I’ve been apart of, I became a very confident and effective leader. A leadership role that I am proud of is being a captain of my high school soccer team. I have worked extremely hard and put in a lot of time in order to earn this position. My dedication shows the type of person I am. When something is important to me I put all of my effort and time into it until it satisfies me. Being a leader requires spending a majority of your time brainstorming ideas that would benefit everyone.
I have demonstrated leadership in a several different ways. During middle school, I was a member of the National Junior Honor Society. In fact, I gave up a majority of my study halls to help out the advisor. I am currently a captain of my fall sport. Because I hold this position, I help the underclassmen during games, encourage them, and resolve conflicts. In addition to that, I used to be a teacher’s assistant to a second grade religious education class. Next year, I plan to join student government and maintain leadership positions.
I should be section leader for three reasons: the fact that I have proven myself as a great player of my instrument, I am very musically inclined, and I have the ability to march, keep time, and drill well. Again, the first reason that I should be section leader of the trombone section, above everyone else, is that I have proven myself as a great player of my instrument in general. I believe this because I have been playing the trombone for four years, and in that time I have been on the highest middle school jazz band, and have beat out the entirety of the concert band trombone section, minus the other three players in Jazz Orchestra. Throughout my years in the middle school Gold Jazz Band, I helped acquire three of three possible Outstanding Trombone Section awards. I have also gotten many outstanding soloist awards for my playing, throughout my middle school career and my just starting high school career.

I am a born leader. Even when I am not looking for leadership opportunities they always seem to fall into my lap. My life has been one that is based on service to others, so I regularly volunteer for committees and extend myself to help others. It is important to me to be the best teacher I can, I regularly attend professional development sessions and implement my new learning in the classroom. However, upon starting the Teacher Leadership Master’s program at Lamar University, I was just beginning my career as a teacher leader. I had not had many opportunities to show leadership outside of my grade-level team. During team planning meetings, I normally directed the discussions. My coworkers looked to me for guidance and interpretation of the curriculum. I regularly made suggestions about teaching strategies. Additionally, I was a member of various campus committees including the Campus Performance Objective Committee (CPOC) where worked together with campus administrators and community partners to develop the Campus Improvement Plan. However, I did not view these tasks as leadership opportunities.
