I completed my practicum at West Middle School in Taylor with Mrs. Kline, a Social Studies teacher. I had a wonderful time and gained some experience that will help me develop into an efficient teacher. Mrs. Kline is a great instructional teacher full of knowledge and wisdom but it’s the way she managed her class that really grabbed my attention. For this reflection, I want to focus on how she managed her class and why she was so successful. I was impressed with Mrs. Kline, she was a very calm individual but yet she managed her class in a great way. The class was very well organized which was critical because it made the day go by without confusion which usually sparks bad behavior. The students walk in to a journal every day to keep them busy while she waits outside to greet the students, takes attendance, and other housekeeping duties. After journals, they watch Channel One News and start on their daily lesson plan. The board always has their guide to the day so the students grab the books and proper resources they need to get through the hour. This was great because it taught the students responsibility and she didn’t have to waste time telling the students what they should have ready. Growing up as a student I always got along with teachers that had a similar personality to Mrs. Kline. She never yelled and always had a smile on her face but at the same time she was no push over. The students knew not to act up which confused me at first because bad behaved students
During the months of September and October this semester I spent time at two different schools in four different classrooms. Being able to observe different classes and teachers at Westside Junior High and South Live Oak Elementary was a very new and exciting experience for me since I can’t say I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. My experiences at these schools gave me a better insight into the differences between schools, classrooms, and teachers. Getting the ability to interview one of my past teachers was an awesome experience. I had the luxury of talking to one of my former high school teachers and Student Council advisor Tessa Gargano. We have a great reputation together and basically know each other like the backs of our hands.
I observed the kindergarten classroom of Sarah House. During my observation, Ms. House completed a language arts lesson with her students. Ms. House used both whole class instruction and one on one instruction during her lesson. I felt that she did an amazing job with classroom management and created lessons that were not only engaging, but fun for the students.
Of the many classes that I chose to take, my two favorites were an English course and Health course. I may want to be a K-9 Officer, and these have few things in common with that career goal, but they were my favorite courses because of the professors who taught the course. Janice (Meredith) Privott for the English course, and Matthew Harpold for the Health course. These two teachers helped push me to better myself in almost every way. Mrs.Privott helped me on a personal level with stress and trauma; from her support she made me a much stronger person. Mr.Harpold helped me with my self-esteem, he took the time to help me when I needed it, even when I wasn’t in his class, just as Mrs.Privott did.
She was unapologetic about treating her students, especially her honors ones, like adults. She was strict about plagiarism and demanded our full efforts. Within our social studies curriculum, she found ways to infuse valuable life lessons and talk
Throughout my elementary school years I was worried and stressed out because I had a speech class that I went to three days a week when I was in kindergarten. Mrs. Mackenzie was an awesome teacher, she made us feel welcomed there and she cared about her students. Kindergarten through third grade,
“Success isn’t just about what you accomplish in your life; it’s about what you inspire others to do.” Throughout my four years at Sartell High School, I have tried to do what I can to help others and inspire others to be better people and do great things. I have worked to do this through many aspects of my school life, whether it is through Student Council, on the soccer field, or in the classroom. I have also taken the time to mentor a student in Sartell Middle School through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, and it not only made an impact on his life, but it also changed mine for the better. My experience as a mentor at Sartell Middle School has been long and enjoyable, and I believe that it has allowed me to grow into the person I am today.
In 6th grade Mr. Strupp was always kind and a bit sarcastic, but in a friendly way. Mr. Fosse was funny and taught me math and science. Laura taught me how to play and do certain sports. In 7th grade Mr. Leister teaches me history, and I get to hear his interesting stories all the time. Ms. Duncan lays the hammer down, and strictly grades, which always encourages me to do my best. Ryan teaches me science (with a little help from Tim and Moby). Lastly Mimi, is a fun, but clumsy math teacher. All of them have been superb, and helped me through my two long years of Middle School.
For example, when I was a freshmen in Clear Lake High School. My favorite subject is math because I’m good at it and also math is interesting for me. My Algebra 1 teacher was Ms. Brodus. Her class rules was so strict. She always told students to put their cellphones away but, she was so enjoyable, delighted and pleasant talk to. Also, she always gave her plenty of time to every students. She was so organized about her every assignment. Whenever a student has trouble in any problem she helps them. She always teach each problems step by step so, the students can better understand. She always shows students two ways how
Brianne Worman was the elementary teacher who led the discussion group I participated in and I could not have asked for anyone better. She provided many tips for managing a classroom, how to deal with different behavioral issues, and gave us advice on what to do now and when we begin our job search. No matter how much information she continued to give us, she stressed three main pieces of advice; get as much experience as possible in the classroom while in college, go to class everyday, and make yourself as marketable as possible.
Spending time in Ms. Gibson’s 1st grade class at Birney Elementary School in the Long Beach Unified School District presented many fascinating learning opportunities. Prior to my experience at this school, review of the STAR report and the School Accountability Report provided interesting background information on the school. While background information set a certain expectation at a school level, it did not offer any insight into my classroom experience. Consequently, I did not have any expectations on what I would learn by working with an experienced educator. Even though I did not have any specific expectations, I did learn a few tips on classroom management and teaching that I plan to take forward. Additionally, my early fieldwork experience assisted in helping me discover my weakest areas in respect to teaching, to focus on in my education.
As I mentioned earlier, this class was the most noisy and unorganized class I have observed so far at Krahn elementary. The teacher had to talk in a loud voice to make sure she was heard. The classroom was a little messy too with folders and worksheets scattered all over the place. I just gathered from my observation that the problems of classroom management were either due to the fact that it was almost time for dismissal, or the teacher was
While observing Mrs. Cirrincione, I liked her classroom management skills. The students seemed to know what was expected of them at all times. Mrs. Cirrincione also connected much of the students’ lessons to their personal interests, which means she has taken the time to get to know each of her students. Mrs. Cirrincione pulled sticks throughout the day giving each student the opportunity to participate. Throughout several of the lessons, Mrs. Cirrincione would give the students helpful hints to remember the content. I struggle to remember new content, so I appreciate that Mrs. Cirrincione took the time to teach strategies to help the students
Throughout the lesson she would walk around and interact with the students to make should they were on task and understanding the assignment. She provided visual aids to assist in the lesson and allowed students to pair with each other in order to provide extra help. Students had to sit up straight in class and track the teacher while she was at the board during whole group instruction. One thing I really loved because its someshing I do in my classroom. All students were required to raise their hands when asked a respond to a question regarding the lesson.
For some reason or another certain students are drawn to particular teachers while other students are more fond of others. In my life I have studied under three memorable teachers. Teachers with which I was able to connect, to laugh, to share my misgivings. While I may have been close with each of these teachers, it is very clear, in retrospect, that each was very unique, and represented an entirely different class of teacher.
