3.3 Investigation and analysis of family history (Plan Ahead) There were many different things about my family history because my parents both came from a different family background. The one thing my grandparents have in common is that they are Chinese. One different thing is that they are born in separate places. My grandparents on my father’s side were born in China then came to Burma, while my grandparents on my mother’s side were born in Burma. Another interesting thing they had in common is that they opened a coffee shop during their 20s. My grandparents on my father’s side were born in China. Then they came to Yangon, Burma to get better business. They

Mary. The second one to leave was my youngest uncle; he came to US to get better education and job. After that my mother got married to my father and moved to Yangon. Then my oldest aunt went to Japan to get better education but after that she went to visit US and loved it so she decided to stay. Right after my oldest aunt went to Japan; my youngest aunt came to US also to get better education and job. Then my grandparents went to US to be with my third aunt and the rest of my family
The word family has changed so much in the past century. A family back in the 1950’s was probably considered a husband, wife, and one or more children. Times have changed and families have become much different. The Interpersonal Communication: Relating to Others book defines family as a, “Unit made up of any number of persons who live in relationship with one another over time in a common living space who are usually, but not always, united by marriage and kinship” (Beebe, Beebe & Redmond, 243). Families can be broken up into five different types. The first is the traditional family, which includes a mother, father, and their biological children. Next, is the blended family which includes
Researching my family and my background, I have found that I have ancestors from several countries, including Germany, Sweden, England, Ireland, and Scotland. They all came to America for a variety of reasons ranging from religious persecution, hope for a better life with better economic conditions, famine, family issues, and to colonize America.
The stories from our parents and grandparents always hold a special place in our hearts, for just an instance we get to see what the world was like from a more mature individual’s perspective, we get to live the days they did through the stories they share. My grandma, or what she is to me; my meme, has shared a variety of stories from her childhood that has allowed me to see some of the challenges and opportunities she had faced growing up. My favorite story she has shared with me would be about the time my memes parents decided to move states. The story tells about the trip on the way to move, the short amount of time they stayed, and lastly, the decision to moving back, to where they previously resided.
One of the most rewarding hobbies that a person can engage in is the search for his or her personal family history. Family history search or genealogy now becomes an easy task utilizing the internet and different databases worldwide. Unlike some hobbies which people get hooked into, family search is fascinating and fulfilling. It is always interesting to know more of your own family.
The idea behind Hunt Club Subs n’ Grill is not a new one, it’s an idea that started with traditions that have been passed down from one generation to another throughout the years. Family, conservation and heritage.
When i was 7 years old, my family and I moved to United States where my parents believed my sister and I would have better “education opportunities.” Being raised in a whole different culture than where i was born made the person who I am today. My parents traditional Korean culture and the American culture has taught me how to integrate different perspectives, how to value every individual's culture, and how to listen, communicate and understand an individual more thoroughly and carefully. Even though i did not agree to all the cultural aspects that my parents expected me to follow, they imparted me with values, such as sympathy and respect to others, stressing the importance of giving back to the community. Through these assets, beliefs,
If I could learn anything new about my family I would definitely learn about my family heritage and background. My family’s heritage is not very
My father was born in Taiwan; my Chinese mother is South Korean-born. Both worked in restaurants. Neither of my parents attended college. I imagine that my parents’ identities were shaped or changed by their world travels, being forced into cultures they
Nobody trips over mountains. It is the small pebble that causes you to stumble. Pass all the pebbles in your path and you will find you have crossed the mountain.” — Unknown
For me, my background is so important to me because not only it defines who I am and how I was raised, it gives me some sense of pride. I am Native American, an enrolled Colville Tribal member. I am also a Crow and adopted Navajo. As I was growing up, I had four different languages spoken to me. English from my dad, Crow from my grandmother, Navajo from my grandfather, and Salish from my other grandfather. It was very hard to remember each language. I have forgotten how to speak Navajo and Salish.
During this family heritage project i have learned a lot of things about me and my family. I can't believe that i have lived 12 (almost 13) years of my life without knowing where my family originated from. Imagine being 50 years old and knowing nothing about your family. It just feels so great to have that blanket lifted from my head and to know more.
She still wanted us to know her roots, still spoke Chinese to us, she took my dad and me to China. We visited The Great Wall of China. Walked the giant stone steps of a thousand soldiers that they made by hand. Well, technically I was a child and my father carried my in one of those…baby backpacks? Drenched with sweat, I clung to my father’s shirt, as my small doe-brown eyes stared at gray stones walls and a memory that is all but forgotten, not lost.
The two groups of people that I focus on for this project are my maternal grandparents and my parents. I specifically focus on these two groups because they allow me to understand how decisions about educational investment and labor market experiences differed between the genders across generations. They also allow me to understand whether other social institutions like marriage, which determines existence of a household, had changed across time.
I grew up in Indiantown, a tiny place, in the middle of nowhere, in Martin County with barely a red light to its name and no chance of development, whatsoever. During middle school, I then moved to Bartow – a slightly less small town, with almost no opportunity for development. After High School, I moved to Orlando with my mother so she could live closer to her job. Thankfully, Orlando (currently, at least) is ripe with opportunity and growth. In Indiantown, there were several of my mother’s siblings (and their children) living here, as well, but the majority of the population were Spanish-speaking and retirees. So, I there was very little opportunity to socialize, other than with my relatives. And my mother’s
Family history is very important to an individual. By knowing where you come from, you can have a better perspective of your life. Having a clear understanding of your family background allows you to better appreciate the things that you would normally take for granted. The house, the car, and the average clothing may look better when one sees the sacrifices their family has made. They will see that their family has worked very hard just so their family can experience the better things in life. A persons roots and origin is one of the most important things to explore. It alone can bring you closer to self-discovery.
