Without dreams and goals, success is hard to achieve. In grade school, I decided to become something in the medical field because I wished to help people
Because of the people I chose to surround myself around, I found myself wanting to go into the field of engineering. My friends knew I had a passion for math and they suggested engineering as an occupation I should look into. As of result of that, I found myself getting into more hands-on projects in my last two years of high school, as well as taking an engineering focused course in high school to try it out. I fell in love with the career path and since then, I aspire to become an
I decided early on in High School that my goal was to attend college for a degree in aerospace engineering, moving on to work as an engineer or technician working on and designing aircraft. When I was very young,
My personal and professional lives are undoubtedly interwoven, and have been affected by my independent emigration from my native Iran at the age of 17. I knew that my desire to pursue higher education would be better fulfilled abroad, so, with the support of my parents, I decided to move to France. After I gained a degree in French language there, I moved to Los Angeles with my eyes set firmly on graduate school. The linguistic, cultural, and financial difficulties I faced during these times have played a significant role in teaching me about independence, perseverance, and resilience. Additionally, my diverse exposure to three very different cultures and languages has allowed me to become more accepting of others who are dissimilar from me, and has made better capable at communicating effectively.
I first took interest in this career path when I was exploring a different variety of jobs during high school. My mom asked me,” what do I want out of life”? So I explained to her that I want to do something that matters to people. I want to help people. But over all things I want to be a mom. I want to be able to provide for my family. My mom went on to explain how she thought being a hygienist would suit me. It’s funny how our moms know us better than we know ourselves sometimes! She went on to explain how she had a friend who pursued a career as a dental hygienist that it worked out for her in many ways. She got to raise her own children but continue growing in a lifelong career path. She got to support her family while not missing out on the milestones her children were accomplishing. She had become very successful within her career and about 25 years later, she still loves it the same. I knew that was the life I wanted, so I started to research where I would need to start.
During this time I was presented with an opportunity to go back to school, and I took it!
I believe being involved in service around town and in high school has taught me life-long skills that will continue to carry me
Going to college and getting a degree can help you better yourself in life by taking in more knowledge and using that knowledge to the real world. Need an example? My mind got tired and I did not feel like making the effort so I left school. My parents encouraged me to enroll somewhere else to get an education.
I learned how to effectively work with others as a team for the desired end result. Engaging in service projects that provide me with such a significant takeaway is indeed a
Growing up, I had such big hopes and dreams for myself. As a child, I always aspired to be a teacher because I loved telling people what to do and taking charge. I am the oldest child and would always have to help my brother with his homework and teach him how to do things around the house. I remember how I enjoy quizzing him for his spelling tests. Unfortunately, life did not go as planned and I ended up taking the wrong path in life. However, 13 years and 3 kids later I decided to return to college.
I thought I was making myself happy by excelling in school but what I lacked was assurance in myself. With that newly gained self-assurance and support, I met my best friend that year who opened up a whole new door of possibilities for me mentally. I am happier than I was a year ago today. I am still academically driven but now I have the personal experiences to go along with it like volunteering or even as simple as saying yes to going out to dinner with a group of
