My group presentation during week 10 was around the topic of women at work and more specifically maternity and paternity leave. A common perception of teamwork is that you either have a group that that works well together and finishes the assignment ahead of time or you have group where there is little communication and the assignment is a last minute activity resulting in a grade that is truly reflective of the effort and time taken. Fortunately for myself the group that was formed for this assignment worked well together and produced an exceptional presentation. I enjoy teamwork as it allows for ideas to be bounced off one another and a better understanding of issues and problems to be well comprehended.
As well as being a chance to incorporate individuals talents within presentation new skills and the development of existing skills. Personally I feel as though I have a good level of skill for presenting an idea however I lack in the preparation are of a presentation I prefer to present something to an audience rather than find and conduct research for a presentation. However the other people in my group were good at finding information and crafting a brief outline around the presentation. This worked quite well for our group as we had a couple of confident speakers whom brought the presentation together. Where others succeeded in producing and finding evidence to back up our stated methods in which work should be done.

Our group worked on all the components of the project together, which included the research, reference pages, scripts, and the PowerPoint. I believe our decision to not assign specific tasks to a single individual allowed us to fully understand all the information and get along better due to the fact we all were doing the same amount of work. In a group setting, we had to work together and communicate with one another in order to create a suitable presentation. One thing I saw that our group thrived at was listening to one another. Our book defines listening as the “active, complex process that consists of being mindful, physically receiving messages, selecting and organizing messages, interpreting messages, responding, and remembering (Wood, 2016).” Each group member had to
Working in a group to achieve a high quality group project can be one of people’s most difficult school experiences. Working in a group is tough because there is often someone who does not pull their own weight. “There are five stages to group development, adjourning, forming, storming, performing, and norming” (John & Wiley pg 166). Christine’s group from the Case Study the Forgotten Group Member is in between the Storming and Norming Stages. The Storming Stage “is dealing with tensions and defining group tasks,” while the Norming Stage is dealing with high emotionality and tension among the group members” (John & Wiley pg. 166). Christine and her group could have had better
Group and team work is described as two or more interacting individuals who share collective norms and goals and have a common identity. The size of the group is key, a large group the leader may not catch all. However, a small group becomes more bonded, allowing interaction and shared awareness.
The major benefit of working in a team for me is that it facilitated and provide a great exercise to develop a teamwork skill. As I work in a team, I learned not only to confidently tell my ideas to the whole group member, but also to listen to their ideas and feedbacks. A leader was not elected for the group. In return, each group member with different background take turns to talk about their ideas. We discussed problems and ideas of how the presentation is going to go with an open-mind and understanding. Our group has a total of two meetings in Monash University and went through each process together to make sure that we all had an agreement.Working together from the very first start is very important as it improved outcomes (SOURCE). My team members and I felt free to share our ideas and
As a leader within an organization, teamwork is such an important quality to possess. Teamwork allows the employees to operate together, forming a cohesive bond. In fact, with teamwork, tasks are done efficiently and in a timely manner. Teamwork is so important especially within the healthcare world because healthcare providers and employees have to work together in order to provide the patient with the highest amount of quality of care.
Society has been evolving as of late. Individual work is no longer encouraged and has been labeled “out of fashion” (14). Environments like school, work, and religious institutions have been implementing teamwork as of late. The idea is that teamwork allows the transfer of ideas from person to person, but at the same time allowing
For both, teamwork affected my experience of participating in this project by helping to validate my answers and to help with questions I had or to decipher the bat calls or writing. It was nice to compare feedback on our individual citizen science projects and to figure out what we thought the source of the call was and what the ship log said. Also getting help with certain classifications made me feel more comfortable with the answers I was providing and made me feel better that the rest of the group was also hearing mainly mechanical noises for the bat call citizen science project.
Examples of Teamwork include them both saying that they would hang up the phone, because they both have a common goal, to hang up the phone. It has Challenges when they both don’t want to hang up the phone, they want each other to hang up first. “Are you still there?” “Are you?” “Yeah, why didn’t you?” “Why didn’t you?” (pg #42) This is a Challenge because they are
Teamwork is the joint action by a group to complete a given task. This was displayed by group 20 as each member contributed their individual knowledge and skills towards the team as well as the course objective.
When I have to work in a team, I try to reach success with others participants in assigned activities. I do not take the role of leader or follower. I consider myself just another participator, but always thinking about doing everything right and clean. I have always had in mind that teamwork are all those actions and activities that are carried out collectively. In order for there to be an excellent group work, I think is necessary is that the actions are developed collectively. This means that to carry out group work, the existence of an entertainer or coordination is not necessary. The collective performance of an action is sufficient, within the framework of mutual interaction.
Teamwork is the backbone of effective communication and the crucial cog that keeps the wheel of successful project management turning. The role of teamwork in enhancing problem solving skills, cohesion, learning, and productivity can no longer be ignored. Proper teamwork plays an integral role in promoting the effective implementation and fulfillment of shared goals in a team project in a manner that is better and quicker. Team work also provides a solid platform on which team members can take on different responsibilities and contribute in ways that together makes the entire team an effective unit.
In a Learning team, presentation skills are very important. I would have to say that Presentation Skills would be one of my personal weaknesses in the Learning team. It is difficult for me at times to stand up in front of a room full of people and present a project or conduct some sort of meeting. In order to do so, you have to have confidence that what you?re talking about is accurate and the motivation to actually get up do it. My biggest fear of a presentation would be tripping and falling on my face or
Being involved in a group project was a challenge for me, due to the fact that we had some communication problems between our group members in the beginning. First of all, we started with a brainstorming, analysing the opportunities of companies around Hendon Central. More than this, we agreed on the same firm and started our work. Within a teamwork, there are some challenges that occur such as remaining focused on a direction, splitting equally the work and choosing a good leader. Bearing all this in mind, I might say that we did our best during the presentation and we coped with the minor communication issues. From this experience, I realized that I am a good leader and I can manage efficiently a project.
During week 9, we posted the articles we thought would be useful to our research, which helped us to get information together without face-to-face meetings. We did not use the online workplace to plan the presentation; we only used it to get an understanding of what the others’ focus was on the topic. After we finished our research, we met at the library to organize the presentation, power point, and plan each other’s section in the presentation. We got everything done in three hours and had some time left over to practice the presentation. I would have taken at least three days to get that amount of work done by myself. It is amazing how much can be accomplished when people work together. Working as a group was an exciting activity; we were able to recognize each other’s strengths, and help each other with our weaknesses. For example, I was better at making the power point, while someone else was much better at organizing information.
There are a couple of things that I do feel I lack the confidence and skill to perform, and that is what I hope to gain from participating in presentations. I am scared to present because I don't know how to share my knowledge with others-students who may have no idea what I am talking about (Lecture 9, Group And Teamworking, 06/12/2011). I hope to learn more about how teachers share their knowledge as part of my own understandings.
