The Yangtze River is the largest river in China running for 3,964 miles. The river deposits into the East China Sea. It is the third biggest river, behind the Nile and Amazon, in the world. The area surrounding the river is the most densely populated place in China. The Yangtze River Basin supplies an abundance amount of grain including rice which makes up 70% of it.

Family is defined differently for everyone. Family members can live down the street or in another country. Some people have close knit families while others do not. Similarly, home is also defined differently for everyone. Some people might believe that home is just the house they live in, and with each move comes a new home. Others, however, believe that home is where their family is. People use family as a way to define home in slightly different ways. The blue sea laps on the golden beach, white foam little silver shining in the sun, and sail distant seagull fly in the blue curtain draw a beautiful arc, with a hint of salty sea breeze blowing gently, as if the person into a fantasy world.This is my hometown - Qingdao. Qingdao is a mountain city, from a small fishing village at the beginning, development to today's modern city. Look! The dirt road once was narrow and broken now smooth and flat, shuttle vehicles stop, pedestrian and dirty once everything in good order and well arranged; the original pier now clean and advanced modern facilities and tall strong fishing each other; once behind and poverty in the village, built high buildings, modern information services to thousands of households., people's lives more comfortable and convenient, rich and colorful.

For any of those willing to travel around China, we will now explore China’s geography. China is located on the eastern Eurasian peninsula. The Yangtze and the Yellow rivers flow through China bringing silt and water, making farming possible. These rivers are supported by heavy rains and snowmelt. Sadly, in the flood season, the Yellow River gives out some deadly floods. This is why we nicknamed it “China’s Sorrow”. Even though it is a deadly danger, the Yellow River brings and deposits 1.4 billion tons of silt, some of which goes into the Yellow Sea. Our civilization grew up because of cities on the banks of rivers, which were supported by the fertile silt brought over which could be used for agriculture-just like in Mesopotamia.

Located in East Asia and holding the second largest land mass of any single country in the world covering approximately 9.597 million km². Most of this vast population are located in the East of the country as the Eastern regions are much more economically developed. China’s industry and transportation are predominantly located on the Eastern coast, meaning the coast also receives a lot more tourism than that of its undeveloped western region. The city of Shanghai is located in the middle of China’s eastern coast. The total area of the city is 6340 square kilometers; 6218 square kilometers being land and only 122 square kilometers of water. The major bodies of water surround the city are the East China Sea, and more closely, the Yangtze River and the Huangpu River. The Huangpu River, also called “The Mother River of China”, and it is the last main tributary of the Yangtze River which runs right through the city of Shanghai.

The cul de sac was my favorite place. I loved to ride my bike in circles and read outside by the flowers that always smelled so sweet. Cars rushed past and I watched many pull in as time went on. It was my favorite place. The smell of food radiated from the kitchen as it does everyday my mom cooked. I would look up from my book and watch the old man walk himself in circles around the cul de sac. I was quite young at the time so I wasn’t allowed out there too long by myself. When my mom came out to grab me she stopped and waved to our neighbor, briskly walking over to him. She then started a lengthy conversation with him. I stayed on the grass engaged in my book and every once in awhile looking up to see my mom in a conversation with our neighbor. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary until the familiar smell of food was soon replaced with a burning smell. I turned my head quick to see shades of red and orange ignite in the house. At the time, I was too young to comprehend the importance and danger of what was happening. All the context clues did not seem to point out to me as danger, but I knew something was off. So, I quietly called “Mom, mom” over and over until she heard me. She turned to me giving me a pointed look for interrupting her conversation.
