Throughout this semester my learning about myself as a learner and biology is backed by multiple changes in my study habits with the evidence included in my documentation, self-regulation, critical reflection, integration, and my collaboration with a Community of Practice. I enrolled in this Principles of Biology class this semester because it was a requirement for my major. This class is important for my long term goals because it is a requirement for me to achieve those goals. Those goals include multiple things like obtaining a degree in Biochemistry and attending medical school. Taking this course will better prepare me for my goals because it will give me the background and knowledge that is needed for higher level courses. This class …show more content…
Example of one of these qualities includes me looking up definitions that were not given to us in the lecture slides. Also I have now have some qualities of an active learner because now I collaborate with other students and I also have many different ways to identify processes and arguments. I have developed as a student of biology because I am now able to apply concepts to everyday life and to other courses that involve some of the same aspects of this class. I can now explain some of the processes more in depth than I was able to do before. These changes in my ability to learn and my developments as a student of biology are supported by the evidence within my documentation, reflections. exams scores and other aspects of this course. Providing documentation in week in this course was a way for me to examine my learning and better prepare me for future exams and to help me understand when changes need to be made in my learning habits based on exam scores. The early weeks of documentation in this course were not as helpful as the last few weeks. The early weeks of documentation only included things such as notes from lecture slides and notes from the information that was spoken about during class. These weeks were not as helpful with my learning because they only stated the facts and they did not allow me a different way of
To begin with, I’m taking Advanced Placement Biology because I want to challenge. I want to be able to step out of my comfort zone so that I can really see what I’m capable of accomplishing. I strongly believe
My academic and research experience at University of Washington helped me realize the importance of health science and that I am suitable to study biomedical sciences. UW is well known for its rigorous health science programs and biology related courses. However, my resolve to do well does not falter a bit when I am challenged with the demanding coursework. Rather than being daunted by the challenge, I feel compelled to expose myself to the vast knowledge of the biology due to curiosity and passion. I thank UW for the hardship because it makes me more determined to go into biomedical sciences.
Upon starting my freshman year in high school, I had been in honors Biology, and it quickly became my least favorite subject. Biology was something I couldn’t understand, no matter how much
I decided to take this class because I am interested in learning the basics for the medical field. I am interested in being a pediatrician because I enjoy working with children. I look forward to helping families by curing a sickly child or completing a usual check up. No one in my family has entered the field of medicine. I chose the medical field because I feel as if I can provide help for people who need it. Although these are my interest, I am still undecided for what I what for my future and I'm hoping this class can help me make the best
As a teacher it is important to know who you are as a learner because it allows for you to help improve your educational experience and to help increase your knowledge. It also allows for you to open your mind to remembering that every person and every student in unique and how they learn will be completely different from one another. This means that in one class you could have thirty unique learners and it will be your job to make sure that you make each child’s educational experience meaningful to them.
While looking through the list of characteristics to write about, one jumped out at me and I instantly knew what I was going to write about. Learning is my passion in life and the reason I want to attend Florida State University is so that I can pursue that passion. Gathering new knowledge has been, and always will be, the most important part of life for me
One must be able to understand the changes that the human body goes through to determine cause of death. Some of the classes that my major requires are biology of animals, biology of the cell, as well as chemistry. These classes are intended to make a student with interest in biology familiar with what he or she may see in their actual career. In my case, I will see all three. Most of these classes also have laboratory classes that coincide with them to familiarize students with the environment that he or she may be in. While most of the time, these classes can be exciting, they are not easy. Having a biology major requires dedication and diligence in order to complete the many years of school that it entails.
The curriculum provides a solid science foundation through the foundation of medicine course that emphasizes genetics, pathophysiology, etc. However, instead of simply learning the material, I want to be able to apply it, so I am prepared for my clinical rotations. The integration into clinical concepts taught in small groups led by faculty is what distinguishes this program from other PA programs. Therefore, George Washington’s curriculum fits my learning style perfectly because when I joined small peer groups for physiology and biochemistry during my undergraduate career, I retained more information and learned how to apply it to various scenarios helping me excel on the tests. Therefore, this course provided throughout the didactic portion will allow me to apply the knowledge first through case studies, and then as a
And to grasp how our systems work, I needed to have a deeper understanding of what they are made of, which is what biochemistry is all about- the chemistry of life. My interest in the human body started in fourth grade when I first learned about anatomy and the body systems. Until this day, I haven’t forgotten the names of the bones in the skeletal system. When I volunteered to translate and help out in a Medical Mission last summer in the Philippines, my interest in medicine grew. I knew I wanted to become a doctor, but this volunteer opportunity made me certain that the medical field was for me. It was fascinating to be involved in the discussion between the patient and the doctors since I was the one translating from English to Filipino and vice versa, and seeing how the doctors handle diagnoses and treatments was quite a learning experience. I’ve also taken Honors and Advanced Placement courses in Science and Math which also fueled my interest in my chosen field. Taking the AP Biology course really made me more aware and gave me a greater interest towards life and our human bodies. It’s mind-blowing to think about the complexity of our living systems and how we can be unaware of what is actually going on inside of us. This is precisely why I strive to become a doctor- I want to learn more about medicine and
My AP Biology class was the hardest class I have ever taken and my traditional studying skills did not help. Not knowing how to study and not having time to study made it very difficult to keep up with the class. I had to think fast and I learned that the only way I remember certain concepts where by seeing them in action. I am a visual learner. Reading words and flashcards do not help me learn unless I actually see things happen. So I started taking notes on videos and I started doing better. I would have never come to this realization if I never did Students Run LA. Also I was not the only one in SRLA who was in AP Biology so we were able to learn together while running together. I am ready for any challenge that comes my way and any other surprises along the way. I will become a professional in my
Section four with course outline presented in a table by weeks is easy for students to follow. Each week is introduced with the main topic and readings. However, it may be better if the course outline incorporates the due dates for assignments and group project milestones. Because this course combines in-class activities and service learning, the workload of students is intensive. It may be easier for students to keep on track with different deadlines.
Hello, my name is William Cody Ramey, you can just call me Cody, and I am a sophomore Biology major at the UofM Lambuth Campus. In terms of this course I have never taken an online only class, but I am taking this course to learn about topics that would possibly never be discussed in my other required classes. My hobby is mainly just relaxing while playing various video games on Xbox One or Nintendo
I have heard that someone does not have to leave everything behind to figure out his or herself, but I am not sure that is completely true. Figuring yourself out is a lifelong process, but in your adolescent years, you start with nothing. And you can’t expect to figure everything out by staying in a place you have always known. I’m in college now, and I’m yearning to know who I am more than ever. What will I be out of college? Will I be okay? What will my career be? Why am I in college in the first place? These questions haunt me, and I don’t have answers for them. I’m learning the hard way to come to terms with being uncertain. What I do know is that I love learning, I want to learn all I can, and I want to be the best person I can possibly be.
As a student, I bring my natural curiosity and strong work ethic that has assisted me in my academic and professional life. I enjoy the active process of learning and look forward to beginning classes in this concentration. While earning my other degrees, I have been an active member of each class, seeking to understand the what, and how of topics studied. I am confident in my ability to complete the coursework required to earn the
What does this piece reveal about you as a learner? What did you learn about yourself as you worked on this piece?
