People grow through the lessons that they experience. These life lessons imprint on people, staying with them, altering them, changing who these individuals are. Needless to say, their effects, though often unpleasant at first, are of no doubt significant.
One of my life changing stories starts out quite normally in the Liu family kitchen. My brothers and I were sitting around the dinner table recalling the many memories we had experienced from a recent fair that we had driven to a few days ago. The subject was currently about the food we had eaten there. Steven, one of my brothers, said, “I liked the hot dogs best, but the kettle corn was also pretty good. I wish Mom would have let me eaten those nachos with you guys. They looked delicious.” “And rightfully so, because they were,” I said.
After a few moments of silence, my older brother Michael said, “But seriously guys, let’s be honest here. The funnel cake was the best.” Sounds of agreement followed this statement as we recalled the sugary, rich taste of the food, how it had seemed to melt in our mouths.
So I went to the fridge to get a glass of milk. Just thinking about funnel cake was making me thirsty! As I came back to the table, my gaze alit on the new pagoda that my dad had bought at the aforementioned fair.
It was a beautiful little thing, what not with its slanted rooftop decorated with tiny shingles and its arched pathways leading to and from it, all painted in a tan color that seemed to suit the structure
The waitress finished getting everyone’s orders and went back to put them in. It was taking a while for our food to come so, us kids started coloring, messing around, and eating more of the chips with dip. My dad and Taylor’s mom took a few pictures of Taylor, Megan, and I. We were making silly faces; we kept laughing. To this day I still have one of the pictures in my room as a memory.
As we were leaving we saw a sign for a frosty on sale for 1 dollar. We went into Wendy’s and waited in line forever, or what seemed like it. When we finally got our frosty’s they were so good. I got chocolate and my sister, Mara got vanilla. I love chocolate anything and everything. The frosty’s
The baking process included diligently following the recipe. Alternating between adding the flour and wet ingredients to the batter could not be ignored in order for the best chocolate pound cake to be produced. Once I had finished my cake, I went over the judging criteria for pound cakes. I began to grow more excited as I realized my cake was correctly fulfilling the criteria provided by the fair such as having a slight bounce when gently pressed. Finally, I arrived at the exhibit hall where I would turn in my cake for judging. As the fluorescent lights gleamed overhead, I weaved through display cases beginning to be filled with sewing projects, homemade preserves, and other baked goods. I had only felt excited as I handed over my chocolate pound cake and wondered how I would
The bike ride there was only a few minutes but seemed like forever to them. As they walked up to the huge, bright red ten they could hardly contain themselves. They heard the circus music playing, they saw the animals and performers and smelled the aroma of kettle corn, funnel cake and caramel apples. While inside they watched in amazement from their seats as the performers rode bikes across wires, ran around cages with a lions, and jumped so high in the air waiting for someone else to catch them. They stuffed their mouths with kettle corn, caramel apples, funnel cake and much more circus food. They ate so much they thought their stomachs were going to explode. They will not ever eat that much circus food again, but they were still wowed at the amazing show. The boys were overly joyed that they got to see the biggest circus in Smyrna, and possibly all of
When they got their food, it all tasted so fantastic. Briz had a chili dog with salt on it. Jenna had a bowl of chicken fried rice. Also, Diego had two boneless chicken sandwiches, while they all drank a two liter of coke. They all sat down to eat without even talking until it was 15 minutes until they were supposed to leave.
I said, “Let me get that for you.” What I pulled out the was a tray full of the most delicious pies I have ever laid eyes on. “These are most amazing looking pies ever,” I said in awe.
Everybody got a square slice. I slowly clamped my teeth down on the bread. The lava-red sauce spilled out the sides. The mozzarella was like an elastic band, I almost choked on the cheese. The inside of my mouth was like a party, tastebuds dancing around with delight. The different kind of spices added the perfect touch. I then felt a warm sensation. The heat traveled down to my stomach and through my nervous system.
She hurried into the kitchen, getting out a bunch of ingredients to make him an amazing cake. She bit down on her lip, shaking her head. "I have no idea what the hell I am doing..." She muttered before going to work. She decided to make a coffee cake for him. She knew he loved coffee. She made chocolate and vanilla cake, coffee buttercream, and she made some simple
First, we checked out my Uncle’s new house. It was a big, white house with a big backyard. They had a very cute dog who loved me! I made a new friend that day. Then, we all went to my Aunt’s house with my grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, and some of my mom’s friends from high school and college. The second I walked into their backyard, the smell of hotdogs and sausage hit me like a bullet. Everyone greeted me with hugs and smiles. There was a pool and a cute little dog named Zeus who was sleeping on the deck and snoring. I swam for a little and then I talked to all of my relatives that were there. The food was absolutely amazing! I had a bunch of hot dogs and sausages with salad and pasta salad. For dessert there was yummy chocolate cheesecake with strawberries that my aunt made, which was even more delicious than the main
We decided to go eat there because it was something new that we all decided we would try. When we got there we went through the buffet and got what foods we thought looked good. When we got down to the tables together we all started eating and realized that, like, nobody really cared for any of the food that was on the buffet and none of us really ate much of what we got. Another thing that we did that was probably both me and Becca’s favorite thing was going on a ride at a little fair thing. You had to wear a harness and then the people pulled you back up then held you for a few seconds and all of a sudden you just drop. It is the tallest Skycoaster in the world and is 300 ft. high overtop of water.
Another highlight of the trip was eating at a place called Pineapple Willy’s. We were starving, but this place was crowded so we waited outside for our table. I bet I could have made the food faster than they sat us. Finally, we got seated. I was so hungry I could have eaten a cow. I loved the atmosphere of Pineapple Willy’s. We ate on a porch over the sand. Watching the waves roll in calmed us roll in as we ate our food.
It was the first meal that I have ever eaten with my family and probably the best one ever. We talked the whole time, mainly about how they thought that they were hallucinating because they kept seeing images of me and not knowing if they were real or not. We also talked about how when I was younger, they put me up for adoption. But the adoption agency couldn’t find me a home, so they just took me back to my parents, but they didn’t realize I was there. I’ve never had a longer conversation,
It was one life-changing experience I was seven years old when I became grateful for the things that I had. I remember packing for this big trip my parents were planning for a year now. I precisely recall my mother telling me to go through my closet and pick clothes I did not use to give away, I didn't know why, but I didn't ask, I just did it. As the day got closer I remember my parents had accumulated a great amount of things to give away. I quite didn't understand why they were gathering so many things and for what reason.
A life-changing event is not something to be taken lightly. Throughout our lives, we encounter many obstacles and changes, some of which bring us joy and excitement, others of which may be hard for us to handle. When I look back on my relatively short life, it may, at first, be hard for me to think of an event that has truly molded and shaped the person that I am today. I have encountered several changes, but at the time, they felt like mere speed bumps along my path. Looking back now, it is easy for me to see that these changes were not by chance, but were placed in my path to form the person that I am today.
Everyone has that one experience that makes them look at life with a new set of eyes. My life changing experience happened a little earlier than most. It was the summer before first grade. We had gotten an exceptional amount of rain in the past months even though it was summer. I did not notice, though, because summer was every six year old's favorite holiday, next to Christmas and their birthday. My summer was supposed to be like any other but it quickly took a turn. For the best or for the worst? That is debatable.
