My Life In New York City

I was born and raised in New York. I lived most of my life on Long Island in a town called North Bellmore. North Bellmore is about fifty minutes from Manhattan and you can take the Long Island Railroad straight to the city, if you like. I did that often. New York City was second nature to me for 27 years of my life. I worked in the city often and took the train back and forth. Everyone did. You were lucky to find a seat. Getting back to suburbia was nice and peaceful after a long day in downtown near wall street with the skyscrapers and rush of people. Long Island is a suburban area a bit like Salem. It has lines of houses and towns next to each other like we do with Keizer and Silverton. I am sure you could already imagine that there is not even as close to as many trees as there are here and there are no farms. Trees are planted sparsely down the streets so that each block may have four or five constructed by the town in designated spots. We did have lawns. Moving from Queens, NY when I was six, I remember how strange I thought a lawn was. There are no lawns in Queens. I lived in Queens until my Mother got remarried. We have four seasons in New York. They are very defined. You also have hurricanes and they can be very serious. Blizzards are a big thing with sometimes many feet of snow. I can remember having a blizzard with 4 1/2 feet of snow once when I was young. There is no rainy season, so it rains here and there all year long. The summers are very hot and humid. It
