My passion for science and plants began early in my childhood and has grown substantially to that which energizes me to chase after higher goals. I used to obsessively search for information on wild plants that were edible and had medicinal properties. Now, I find that I am continually amazed by research on the photosynthetic pathway along with biochemistry within plants in general. I was, and still am, enthralled by the idea that so much knowledge and novelty is within the organisms that I had appreciated since I was young. I believe that this passion was driven further by being able to compare, for myself, a life spent in remedial labor and one with scientific exploration. Needing to work in my family’s business for years out of necessity placed me in a position where I saw how each action could either draw me from or towards a better lifestyle. These experiences have personally shown me the value in a program like the Leadership Alliance, whose purpose offers a means to be a part of a diverse cohort striving toward leadership in the world. Having the opportunity to be included in a community with such a goal and momentum would be phenomenal. It would allow me to continue pursuing graduate and post-graduate level education while also refining me into a monumental force in the field of scientific research. I desire to pursue my passion of photosynthesis, plants, and biochemistry to serve the world with a team of researchers.
An academic appreciation and respect of science
My passion out of hundreds of careers in the U.S is to pursue a career in Nursing. I choose this career because l believes in the change that Nurse brings to help make the world a better place. To fully comprehend the changes Nurses are creating in our society today and why I ‘am passionate about been part of the revolution, one has to look at the role they play in enhancing healthcare service. Nurses play an essential role as the first line of defense for health wellness and information. In addition steeping into someone’s life at their lowest moment and making a difference to their overall experience is an incredible privilege. Mahatma Gandi once said, "the best way to find yourself, is to lose yourself in the service of others. Hopeless
My initial passion for science is where my ambition began but immediately after beginning practical experience, I became inundated with intrigue for medicine. The prospect of a career that will push my learning capabilities to the limit while keeping up with the endless advances that often forefronts modern medicine in the news, fascinates me. From the respected staff to the thankful patients, the versatility and reward of medicine as a subject has become the reason that compels me to pursue this vocational course where the aim is primarily to help those in need.
He ran down the hallway towards me as I bent over, he clinched his arms tightly around me and whispered softly, “Thank you for being my friend”. Those simple yet influential words still echo in my head. Adam, was brought to a clinic that I volunteered at for autistic spectrum disorder and selective mutism. I followed Adam through his appointments and took extra time getting to know him and his family. I started looking forward to seeing Adam at every appointment. All it took was a 10 year old to show me the power of human connection. His words coupled with my own diagnosis of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy with Ventricular bigeminy gave me the platform that would give rise to my passion for medical sciences. My passion would solidify with the support of my grandfather, a physician, who encouraged me to read and understand my condition. My enthusiasm for medicine was cultivated further as I read about disease processes and with the help of my father, a hospice nurse at the time, whom strengthened my interest further in medicine.
My passion is to tell people that Muslims are not terrorist. ISIS doesn’t have religion, and they don't know anything about Islam because Islam is the religion of peace not war. There were lots of attacks that they did, and the recent one was the Paris attack. I want to start off by expressing my deepest sympathies to all the people in France. Any act of violence against innocent people is an act of violence against all innocent people.
I think that my greatest contribution to the community would be my love for research. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to help people in any way that I could. Although my desired career path has changed significantly over the years from wanting to be a Police Officer to desiring being a part of the bio-medical research field, I have finally found my niche in society; I know that I want to help people through research. I first discovered my love for research when I participated in National History Day, in the eighth grade. Prior to joining this program, I had loved to learn, but I hadn’t found a specific aspect of learning that really interested me. As read every article and website about the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire, I
Ever since I could remember, I have always dreamt of being a professional dancer. From taking classes since I was three to attending summer dance intensives to being chosen to perform the lead role in my studio’s production of the Nutcracker, I have always had a passion for dancing. As I grew up, I realized that I also had a passion for learning, and I became determined to excel in school. Now that I am approaching college, I know that I want to attend a school that provides a challenging academic curriculum and a good dance program. Since the University of Richmond is a highly selective institution that provides both a rigorous liberal arts education and a stellar dance program, I believe that the University of Richmond is the right fit for
My hope for college is to gain knowledge of different styles of dance and the science of how the body moves. Along with my passion for dance I have a strong fascination for how the body moves and works. My goal is to study both kinesiology and dance in college so that I can eventually get a job in both dance and physical therapy.
A lot of people are literate in Reading and Writing, however, I am literate in other things such as Guitar, Fencing, Bowling, Metal-Detecting, Reading, Writing, and tons of other things. But I really have a passion for Reading and Writing. When I start writing, I really get into it and I do not want to stop, but sometimes when I do not get into it, I just write a small amount amount and don't really have a passion for what I am writing. But when it is good I put a lot of feeling into it. The same goes for reading, I love to read a book if it fits into my interest, I usually like books with more action and surprising moments. It can be realistic fiction, it does not matter to me. There are always weaknesses to everyone's strengths.
Since I was young, I have aspired to learn more about how technology works and the way we interact with it. My interest in science and technology began even when I was as young as 3 or 4 years old, when my family first got a laptop. I can clearly remember my fascination with its incredible capabilities, and this incredible piece of technology allowed for bonding opportunities in my family. For instance, my father would frequently teach me about all of the amazing things a laptop is capable of doing, like calculating large numbers and accessing information from across the world at the click of a button. On the other hand, this common interest in technology with my older brother David allowed us to create many memories of exploring the internet and playing games together.
Nothing had influenced my life more than the beauty of science. The subject is just so fascinating and really catches my eye as it helps explain virtually everything around me, it helps me understand why such things are. It is extremely captivating and always makes me eager for more learning and understanding. However, the real experience lies in the unknown, the regions of science where research stills needs to be done, where more understanding needs to occur, where science can be used for the well-being of the planet.
“Lay on the ground where ever you are and stay there!” “Lock all the doors and windows right now!” “Turn off all the lights and the television, now! right now!” “Grab all your documents!” my mother franticly cried out as the sound of gunshots continued. “You said we would never have to deal with the sound of gunshots again being in America! You said we were going to be safe! Is this what you call the safe haven from Liberia! Why did you have to bring us here! when will we ever feel safe?” my older sister lashed out at my mother and headed upstairs.
My true passion for engineering began when I came across the quote: "Technology are devices that make our lives better". Despite my first love of mathematics, my recent interest for engineering has come from two major influences. The first being my mathematics and physics teachers, both engineers by nature, who have helped me enhance the fundamental skills essential for engineering and embrace the importance of the field. The second being the learning about uses of technology in Computer Science, it taught me the magnitude of which technology contributes to our everyday lives has led me to intensify my desire to improve the lives of others.
Almost all little girls start their primary schooling years wanting to play school and wanting to learn. At home they act like they are teaching their own classroom and leading their group of students in front of them (most likely a stuffed animal), but their imagination, creativity, and eagerness to learn is at the peak when they begin their first day of school. Ever since that day I still want to be an educator and to make a difference in this field for the better. I have always found that the most intriguing thing for me in life is conveying knowledge and skills onto other people and watching in their eyes when the switch finally clicks that they understand what I have been trying to teach them. Knowing that the impact you made for just that short amount of time in that child’s life may never be forgotten.
A passion is a strong love and interest you have towards something. It may for something you love doing, like reading, gardening, art, or even sports. Passions can be temporary, but while you have them, they can be fun. I have experienced a passion for several activities. When I was just four years old, I got involved in gymnastics. As I got older, my passion for gymnastics faded, and it did not appeal to me anymore. I recently quit doing gymnastics, but I admit it was fun while my passion for it lasted. I got many benefits out of doing gymnastics, including friends, skills, and some flexibility. Now I’m into art, which I’m sure will give me many benefits as well.
My love of being in a laboratory started with my increasing interest in science when I was a child. Being from a single parent home, we did not always have money to purchase toys or do activities; so most of my younger days were spent outside and in the kitchen. During the daytime, I would catch insects, frogs, small fish in the stream behind our home, or help my neighbor on his farm. My neighbor taught me various things about the forest; he showed and named all the trees, edible and poisonous plants, what time we could harvest such edibles, taught me how to clean fish. One of favorite lessons he taught was where the best place to find salamanders. At night I would spend my time in the kitchen doing at home experiments, such as leaving an egg in vinegar, making slime, or a baking soda volcano. However, as I grew up and attended school, I became unsatisfied with my science courses. I wanted thorough explanation of why things are the way they are. Once I enrolled in college, I was excited at the endless possibilities that awaited me to reach my goals.
