The person I used to conduct my interview was my step mom, Chris Howell. We are very close to one another, and she has been with my dad since I was 4. I would consider her my mom not my “step mom.” Since she lives 4 hours away, I was unable to meet with her in person for the interview so a phone call was necessary. She’s a very outgoing person, who is great at making conversation and telling stories. Even though it would have been more ideal to meet in person to conduct the interview, the phone call still felt natural and helpful. A few times over the course of the interview it was hard to hear what she had said. I did not want to interrupt her, so I missed a few details. Overall, it went very well, and it lasted the perfect amount of time. Since I am her daughter and already know key characteristics about her life, she felt comfortable sharing with me. Even when talking about her ex-husband, she did not hold back. To begin, Christine Howell was born January 12th 1958 in Williamsport, PA. The Susquehanna River flows through Williamsport, and Williamsport is a very manufacturing and industry based place. It was the lumbering capital of world in the 1800s. As a result, there are a lot of beautiful homes of all styles. She grew up in a beautiful 6 bedroom Victorian home that had 10 feet ceilings, a huge staircase, and pocket doors. She is the 2nd oldest with 4 sisters and 1 brother. She described her home life as wonderful and traditional. Her dad was the breadwinner of the
It is undoubtedly because of my parents, and their unwavering support, that I have decided to dedicate my energy towards helping others. Both of them inspired my love affair with science and medicine in their own ways, and not just through their support of me and my decisions. Before I graduated high school, my mother was diagnosed with cancer. Her doctors were amazing, and the support staff we met with were equally incredible. This positive experience during this difficult period cemented in my mind that whatever I did, I wanted to help people. For years, my father struggled with prescription drug abuse, before finally checking himself into a rehabilitation facility. His eventual triumph over his addiction has inspired me in ways he could never imagine. Discovering effective medicines that do not hold a risk for dependency is an issue that is very personal for me and is something that I am determined to pursue once I am finished my PharmD degree.
On May 27, 2011, I sat in the crowd of thousands of people waiting to see the cheer from the football field. No, this wasn’t a professional football game, or even a college game. This was the graduation and commissioning of 1000 men and women from the United States Naval Academy. As the covers of all the former midshipmen went into the air, and the crowd went wild, I stood in awe, speechless. Even as an 11 year old boy, I knew that I wanted to be that young man standing on the ten yard line, in an immaculate white uniform, jumping up and down and hugging his buddy next to him. As I read stories and biographies of men like Marcus Luttrell and Chris Kyle, some of the most courageous men in the world, I realized my calling in life. I was to be an officer in the United States Navy.
I am a non-terminating senior at Fordham University pursuing both a physics, and a joint mathematics and computer science degree. I’ve chosen to apply to contribute to Cornell’s CNF and PARADIM REU program because of my interest in the intersection of experimental condensed matter physics and nanotechnology. Since May of 2016, I have been doing an independent study on quantum computation with the assistance of two advisors. Among learning about the many facets of quantum computation, my obligations also include developing computer programs using both python and C++ to simulate quantum computational phenomena, seeking contemporary advancements in this field, and presenting short talks on quantum computational phenomena. In particular, I had
This is Mary McLeod Bethune School of North Lawndale in Chicago, and I am the new principle this year. Due to the poor economy around the school, things have been left to the way side, but I pray help give some hope back. Students are set back and 8th grade for some are their big celebration but I want to see them graduate high school. I want to be sitting in the audience at high school graduation and go those are my kids. Some issues at Bethune are based in the school makeup and location, teachers, readings levels, and the children encouragement.
Unfortunately, my family cannot afford to pay for my education,However I plan to continue applying for financial assistance online , work part time, whether it's delivering pizza, helping clean up around the gym,or doing local yard work, also maintain a good academic standards, although I haven't had the best of grades years past, slowly but surely I will get on the right track. It is my hope to receive a sports scholarship playing football and hopefully getting accepted into EIU,within time it would benefit me greatly.
My first recollection of paid employment was as a paperboy. I remember walking my neighborhood saving money to purchase a bike, with the intention of accelerating my work hours and allowing for an efficient work model. During high school I worked as a counselor at the town summer camp. My work experiences paled in comparison to my peers, as I was absorbed in athletics and most specifically soccer. In retrospect I regret not seeking various forms of employment during my teenage years as I feel that I would have developed a positive identity of work.
When I took my USC tour before my freshman year, I fell in love with the campus and became very interested in exploring all the opportunities presented by the ambassador. I fell in love with the beauty of the Horseshoe and greatly appreciated the generosity and politeness of the people I met. I want to inspire prospective students to fall in love with USC as I did. I would also like to explore this opportunity to develop as a person and make good friends in the process. It gives me great pride to tell people I attend the University of South Carolina and cheer on my team at every football game. When people ask me why I went to school so far away, I generally stick to three answers. The weather is great, the sports are amazing, and the people who comprise the University are fantastic.
Since an early age my passion has always been to help others. In every aspect of my educational career and in my jobs, I have always determined that helping someone is the goal. Helping people is a goal that can be achieved in any work field regardless of what one does. For the last five years, I have volunteered for a non-profit organization named “Hogar de Ninos: Semillas de Fe” (translates to “A Home for Children: Seeds of Faith”). In this organization, a group of young adults have traveled to the Dominican Republic once a year for a period of two weeks each trip. Our goal is to help the impoverished children. These children have been exposed to countless traumatic events including being physically, emotionally, and sexually abused. The organizations mission consists of helping develop these children
The two weeks I tracked were November 6th through the 19th. I chose those days because I was paid on the 6th, and I wouldn’t be paid again until the 20th. By choosing those dates, I was able to see how much I spent from that paycheck and how much left over I actually had. I liked being able to see how much of my paycheck was left over by the time I was paid again. I use that extra money for a buffer in case there is something I have to spend a little extra money on, and so I always have money in my bank account.
This year my key responsibilities have been as a manager in the school hygiene, leading a team in the logistics of supplying the schools hygiene products. I have also organised short PE sessions for my peers with the help of fellow students.
I am excited to be qualified to have the opportunity to apply for the Rose Marie Beard Woman of Spirit Honors Scholarship. I immigrated from the Philippines to the United States with my father and two older sisters. My mother joined us after a few years. My parents instilled in me the importance of education, as well as the obstacles that may stand in the way. When we arrived in the United States, my father enrolled me in a Catholic school, where he believed I would receive the best education. I am now the first person in my family to attend to college. After elementary school, I knew I wanted to continue my educational journey in a private Catholic high school, but I knew the expenses would be a problem. I maintained being a top student and looked for different options to get to where I wanted to be. To obtain this dream, which always seemed unreachable for my family, I worked hard with
While writing a compelling college essay may seem to be a daunting task at first, I believe that the key to generating a unique and moving topic is dedicating effort early in the writing process to personal reflection on your goals and motivations. Often, in writing personal statements for colleges and other applications, I set aside time to dedicate to focused reflection about events or moments in my life that illustrate my values or identity. In terms of the mechanics of an effective personal statement, I typically utilize the “zoom in, zoom out” method, which involves recounting a specific anecdote early in the essay, and then demonstrating how this anecdote contains lessons that apply to greater aspects of your motivation or identity. Through
My personal statement will talk about how I will be the first sibling to attend college and how I love being in the kitchen. I love trying making new desserts and new dishes. If my mom and family love them, then they would put it on the menu of our restaurant. The restaurant name is called Limon. My grandmother had a restaurant as well and she taught my mother how to cook. Now my mom teaches me how to cook, I enjoy how my mother passes down my grandmother's dishes. I think my grandma would appreciate that my mom is doing that. I think later on in life I would want a restaurant of my own. I have so many wishes in life, but in order to make that happen, I would have to be successful in life and continue going to school.
I lived last year and continue to live in the global living center in Bentley University this year. My direct roommate is from Denmark, and the three other roommates are from India, Latin America and United states. I believe that my education at Bentley wouldn’t be complete without this diverse community I’m surrounded with. I would love to supervise a group of young kids and teach them to make the most out of Explo just like I am making the most
The biggest thing that I have to show for as a designer is my online portfolio. The website is my money maker. I’ve come to realize that employers in my industry don’t care about whether I have a higher education or not, or if I have a strong resume, what matters if the visuals that they can view of the work which I have done. My online portfolio is strong, having gotten me many jobs, but only through me responding to ads.
