Philosophy of Education
I believe that teachers have one of the most important and rewarding jobs in this country. Their primary job is to prepare young people for the future. This is why I want to become a teacher. I want to help young people grow and learn, while having fun in the process. In this paper, I am going to share my philosophy and the goals that I hope to achieve and use in my career. I am going to give my beliefs and thoughts on knowledge, the purpose of education, why my chosen field (science) is important and the best methods to use to teach this field, my principles, and the steps and processes I will take in order to become the best teacher I can for my students.

These two different types of knowledge make our world so interesting and cause us to want to learn more. This is evident in all aspects of education. Some people will always want to know more. They may find something new that changes an idea or supports an existing one.
I feel that the over-all purpose of education is to give children the knowledge necessary to help them succeed in the real world after they have finished their schooling. It is my opinion that education is very important because the world around us is moving so fast and one must be educated in order to keep up with changing times. Something new is being found or applied frequently in our society. Your education doesn’t stop with school, you will learn something new all the time for the rest of your of your life regardless of your profession. Having a good education will prepare you for the certain upcoming changes that will happen in your lifetime. As a teacher, I want to help my students prepare for the future. I want to always be knowledgeable about recent findings in my field. I want to be an easy going and very accessible teacher for my students. I want to teach at a level that all of my students will understand, but also gives everyone something they can apply to their future or daily lives. “Wake up! It’s time to get ready for school.” I loved those words as a child but grew to hate them as a teen. As a child, school consisted of hands-on activities, mingling with others, and enticing lessons. As a teen, school consisted of being forced to remain seated, reading a chapter, answering the questions at the end of the chapter, and completing a worksheet. I found school to be boring and excessively routine. Therefore, I never aspired to be a teacher. I cringed at the thought of that routine! Through the courses i've taken at Lakeland college, my time spent observing a second grade class, and my own school experiences, I have begun to develope my own personal teaching philosophy. The needs of students are ever changing and I plan to evolve my philosophy as I gain more experiences. I plan to implement my philosophy and teaching beliefs into all of my future classrooms. My goal as a teacher is to fulfill all of my students educational needs, and prepare and adjust my lessons accordingly.
I started my college career heading towards a degree in child psychology, law, or orthodontics. In all of these professions children are heavily involved and I knew I wanted to be around children. Then I decided to change my major to teaching, which combines aspects of many professions, and is completely child oriented. The main reasons that I want to become a teacher are not for the money or the power of the classroom. I want to become a teacher because of children’s lack of enthusiasm to learn, poor guidance, and bad role models. Regardless of the factors that determine the nature of students, I feel the purpose of education is to make sure every student has the ability to live up to his or her full potential. I also feel every student should have the chance to learn and excel through education. When I become a teacher, I will make sure each of my students receives the knowledge they need and has the opportunity to grow during the learning process. I believe that teaching is one of the most important professions in the world today. From the very beginning, until present time, teaching has been around. The book of Genesis speaks of God walking and talking with Adam in The Garden of Eden, God was teaching Adam. I will be proud to, one day, be a part of this great calling.
To describe my educational philosophy, I needed to combine two philosophers into one making it my own. I plan to explain my philosophical view by discussing the purpose of public education in society.
I believe that education extends far beyond the classroom walls, and involves many more people than students and teachers. People should be learning wherever they go, and should continue learning long after they’ve graduated from high school or college. Education isn’t something that can be quantified with tests or report cards, but is instead something that people carry with them. It’s a survival pack for life, and some people are better equipped in certain areas than in others. People with a solid education are prepared for nearly anything, as they will be able to provide for their own physical, emotional, and aesthetic needs.
There are all different kinds of students and each of them deserve the chance at a fulfilling education that improves their self - esteem and self - efficiency in the world. Every child deserves a teacher that is fair and understanding of the different ability levels of each student in their classroom. This is my philosophy of education. In preparing to become a teacher who truly tries to understand the vast differences between children, I want to address the nature of students, the nature of knowledge, the purposes of public education, the methods of teaching, and the curriculum area that I am studying.
Every teacher has a different method of teaching. The teachers that I have had in my school career have been no exception. In this way, each teacher has set an example for me, as a future teacher, to follow or not to follow as I see fit. With the examples from my teachers and in continuing my education, I am developing my own method of teaching. I plan to use a combination of teaching methods in my own classroom. My method will be an eclectic approach because I will be using components of more than one philosophy. I will be using essentialism, behaviorism, progressivism, and existentialism.
Teaching is a career that takes patience, passion, and desire. Since I was about ten years old, my passion has resided in teaching, specifically special education teaching. When my aunt adopted my twin cousins and found out they were autistic, I never would have expected the hard road she would have to go down in terms of their education. My motivation to teach has always been and always will be my cousins. Without them, I would have never found the desire and love I have for special education children. A quote by Magic Johnson that I feel describes why I want to be a special education teacher perfectly is, “All kids need is a little help, a little hope, and someone who believes in them.” Special Ed children, no matter how they must be taught or how much they can comprehend, have the same rights to an education as any other child.

I believe the purpose of an educator is to enhance minds and touch lives. I think it is wonderful that in the country we live in today, that all children are not only given the opportunity for an education, but are forced to take advantage of it. Almost every adult can look back at their school years and think of at least one teacher that has touched their lives in one or more ways. I hope that as an educator that I will have made a difference in many lives and be their motivation to reach their highest goals.
I want to become a teacher, not only for the fun and enjoyment that comes along with being a teacher, but because I want to make a difference in children’s lives. I want to become a Physical Education teacher, to teach children the importance of being physically fit and physically active. In edition to teaching the importance of being and staying healthy, I want to give the younger generation the opportunity to play sports. Through playing sports a child may feel a since of purpose or importance. This may deter a life of crime or a drug-abuse. Through being a teacher I want to be a good example for my students. I believe the purpose of education is to prepare and equip our posterity for a better future. As equally important, I believe the purpose of education is to continue one 's learning to avoid becoming stagnant, which allows a person continued growth. In today 's society, school has become a place where children go to be fed knowledge and develop a sense of critical thinking. School is and should always be a place where a child 's natural curiosity and creativity is nurtured and cherished. Lastly, school is a place that is a safe haven for children to learn, grow, and become free thinking individuals in an ever-changing world. As an educator, my role is to teach the whole student. It is my role as an educator to establish personal connections with each and every student and foster their learning. In the field of education there could arise many philosophical ideas of each individual teacher. Many of the past philosophies have been and still are used in today’s education programs, such as the Socratic method. My philosophy will also contain some of the many philosophies of the past and possibly the future. I will state the nature of students, the nature of knowledge, the purpose of public education, method, and curriculum according to my own philosophies, which also may be based the philosophical ideas of previous individuals.
