Contributions For this class, how I plan on contributing is by engaging into discussions a hundred percent with good textbook citations to support my idea or thoughts. I will ask my questions on the Q&A discussion board if there are questions I have so if there are others wondering. My goals for this class is that after I will be able to engage my children more into math and science and have more activities to get them excited. Also to get the children more involved with the activity, asking questions to getting them more engaging and yearning for more activities around that subject. My expectations for myself is to receive the grade of an A, to study hard and lastly to improve myself to help the children improve themselves.
Time Management
Right now my schedule is pretty busy, I work Monday through Friday 8 am till 5 pm at MAAC Head Start. So I am managing my time very critical currently. I do my homework after work and check my canva to make sure that I am staying on top of my assignments everyday. I like to be ahead of my assignments so if I do want to take one night off then I am not worried that I will get behind. I just need to make sure I give myself enough time to do the readings, I noticed that I take a while to do the readings so for the further reading I need to start right after work and take my time writing notes and making sure I really understand the material. I believe if I stay focused and continue to work on homework and reading assignments everyday then I
As a busy mother, partner, worker etc. I find it hard to allocate appropriate time especially for studying.
I remember my favorite teacher vividly even though I sat in her class many years ago. I have so many fond memories of her and took so much from her class. I can only dream of touching a child’s life in the way my favorite teacher touched mine. For just one student to think of me in the same way would make all the years of hard work worth the effort. I also want my students achieve many accomplishments. I want them to use and remember what they have learned in my class. I also want them to have a broad spectrum of knowledge. I want each student to do their best and go as far as they can. I want them to feel a sense of accomplishment and be proud of themselves. I want to be the teacher who is encouraging, supportive, and pushes her students to be their best.
As a teacher, I will work to fully provide opportunities for authentic learning, where every child feels valued, safe and included. My goal will be to find occasions every day to nurture independent learning, along with peer support that promotes a sense of personal growth and achievement. I recognize that every child has strengths and weaknesses, special talents, and specific needs, regardless of individual challenges. My objective will be to model appropriate behavior and show acceptance of everyone
Another goal that I have had since the beginning of the course was to adopt an engaging and effective teaching style. My aim has been to take the positive traits of teachers that I have enjoyed, while keeping in mind the characteristics and mannerisms that I have disliked, and crafting my own unique teaching style. As I have lead class discussions, group readings, and mini-lessons throughout the semester I have began to develop a teaching style through trial and error. I have paid special attention to the list of 25 pointers for successful tutees from assignment two and and focused on making my teaching interactive, supportive, equal for all, and respectful. I have learned to appreciate that, concerning a student's individual success, a teacher taking the time to listen to their student is just as important as the student listening to the teacher.
Hi Octavia. I also stated some of the same challenges you stated. It’s hard finding a balance between work, family, and studying. You want to be able to interact with your family once you leave work, but your focus should be on reading the next chapter. With me I can get side tracked easily. I’ll end up helping my little girl with her work and then she’ll want to go out for dinner or to play. Once I start to interact with her I lose track of everything. When everything is over, I have to go to bed for work. It’s hard but you have to have self-control. I must say in the past when I was taking online classes I had a great support team. My boyfriend was very understanding and supportive. Someone from my class was always available. It was a great
4. Currently in my classroom I teach 5 year olds. They really enjoy stories to open a lesson for the week. They love hands on learning, so we play a lot of letter and number bingo, we play counting games, and create art several times during the week that have to do with our themed lesson. I engage myself with every child, and want every student to be fully interacting with me and the rest of the class. I believe in differentiating instruction, adapting to every child’s need. I also assess each child three times a year, first to see where the class as a whole is in knowledge of letters, numbers, and shapes and colors, then I will assess half way through the year to tell myself how we are doing, and the end of the year to let the parents know our success.
The initial shock of the significant workload and expectations can take their toll, but good time management skills can prevent multiple late nights in a row to get assignments done on time. Kelci Lynn Lucier has worked in higher education for ten years, and has experienced students struggle to try and find the balance between extracurricular activities, personal activities, and education priorities. Luckily, Lucier has four tips to help best use the time provided in a day. Lucier’s first step focuses on managing ones academic time and how it needs to be the top priority above all other curricular activities, stating: “It's important to remind yourself why you're in college in the first place: to graduate” (Lucier). Lucier’s second step is be able to manage personal time, she talks about how unrealistic it is to always be working, studying, or learning, she wants students to try and find time to do something fun with friends or a club. Lucier’s third step is to wkeep the students health in mind, it does no good to stay up until two in the morning studying over a history mid-term, only to be half asleep for the test anyway; sleep is important and without can only increase the stress. Lucier’s fourth and final step is to not be afraid to seek help with your time management, she states: “The most important thing to have for time
Primarily, before I was able to use my time management skill to benefit my academic success as a student at Miami this term, I had to follow certain procedures. The first thing I did in the beginning of this semester was that I created a, To Do, list to help me identify a few items and the reasons for doing them. I create these lists every Sunday to guide me through my weeks of school. The first thing in the list is to make sure I go to sleep on time, so I can wake up on time and arrive on time in class every day. Another method I follow is the daily and weekly planner which helps me writing down my appointments, classes’ times, and meetings’ times on a
Reviewing notes and readings just before class seems to be helpful, as before I used to only do the readings assigned as homework and would never review notes. I’ve tried it, and actually retained a lot more of the information. One thing that I might actually try is to get a visual calendar and have things due one day before they are actually due, so that I will not have any late assignments, and the work will be of an “A” quality.
Throughout my first two years at Saint Xavier, I have continued to successfully manage my time and achieve first honors. The first step for me to become intellectually competent is to create a study plan. Towards the beginning of my freshman year, I created a calendar planing out my events, fitting in School, service, family, and sports. From then on, I have planned my homework out everyday, ordering my studies from hardest to easiest. I organize my homework this way because I am a much more diligent worker after school, then before I go to bed. I consistently work on my homework throughout the day, during study hall, before sport, and at home. I use my study hall to my advantage, planning meetings with teachers or getting advice from the librarians. All the time management I do, helps me to study smarter and not
Another area of importance is to make sure to leave work on time. This will avoid eating up your hours that could be applied to coursework or time with family. Leaving work on time will also help keep you from stressing out too much. I, unfortunately, don’t get the opportunity much to leave work on time. I always have to make sure patients have been discharged, all veterinarians are finished with their clients, and every boarding animal is back safely in their cage. I try to make up for the loss time by spending a few extra hours studying before bed, or spending more quality time with my husband. Family is another part of prioritizing. Never let your schoolwork consume your time with family. Make sure to keep them informed and up to date on when you will be focusing on your schoolwork. Your family should always be there to support you, and they should always understand your need to succeed. They will be your rock and give you the positive push to keep on learning. You should give them a copy of your calendar and even see if there are areas where they might be able to help you with studies. I would recommend that you delegate tasks and write them in your calendar as well. Set days of the week, where you’ll do the cooking and cleaning, and rotate the following week with your
I know you tell me all the time that you would rather be doing other things instead of your work. If you broke up your schoolwork into different days you would also have time to do things you like to do such as playing video games, watching TV, and working outside. Another option that you could try would be to finish it all in one night and then have the rest of the week to do whatever. You may get
I think when I get to college it will be very challenging for me to keep my grades up while still wanting to go to parties or stuff like that. I would have to make a schedule so I could keep track of time. A good idea while I am working is I could work with a study group of friends to help make it less stressful for me to do my work. It is always good to have fun while studying. Right now as a freshman in high school I am practicing that goal. I have practice almost everyday and still work to do for my classes. I am sure that it is not going to get easier. Although I do get tired when I come home from practice, I still do my work. Sometimes I do my homework in class so I would have less to do at home. Mrs. Martinez tells us to make a schedule in our planners and write down our homework assignments so it could help with keeping track of our work in classes. All so have a binder and keep our stuff organize so we won’t stress on finding work. It really helps. I just hope to have a very educational and fun time in
I know that children learn in many different ways. Observing, experimenting, reading, and listening are a few of those many ways. I have learned that people learn best when the information is something that they are interested in. I am going to strive to make every lesson fun, and applicable to my students. I favor using many methods to teach, including lecturing, cooperative learning, project based instruction, and “hands-on” activities. I want the classroom to be a place that the students enjoy, not a boring place. I believe that every child has an innate hunger for learning and becoming successful. If I can harness their craving and aim it in the right direction, I believe I will be successful in helping these students achieve what they are looking for in life.
My educational experience is one amazing thing I would never forget. My parents gave me an experience of a lifetime that I would never let go and continue to expand. It was a gift of a great education I could have tossed away but instead I took advantage of it and it expanded my intellect and made me more independent. As a young girl my parents always told me, they wanted a great educational experience for me. They said no matter what it took to get me into good schools, to have a great education they will do it. My parents worked very hard to give me the opportunity to be in private school my whole life since pre-school. They always told me to work hard, be bright and be bold. The educational level I had being in private school my whole life was amazing. What was amazing about my education level is that I was able to take all college prep. classes, I took an AP Spanish class, my teachers were always on top of us to hand in work in time, essays in my English class were based on a college level writing. It was amazing because my school expanded my mind more on a college based level.
