I value that I am a resilient woman who has the courage to try and tackle challenges. I am hardworking, empathetic, jovial and a natural leader. However, as member of a health care time there is often the issue of when is a good time to lead and when is a good time to follow? However, I find that when working in a team I am able to balance my role in order to meet the goals of my team. I am also an efficient listener. Each time my patients share grievances with me, such as mistrust in a healthcare professional, I do my best to alter the way I provide care to ensure the patient develops trust in my ability as their provider. I greet the patients every time I enter the department and I make sure to spend time to explain their illness while adding
The State of Tennessee Board of Nursing’s Rules and Regulations of Registered Nurses, Rule # 1000-01-.13-1r states that unprofessional conduct is defined in part by "failing to take appropriate action in safeguarding the patient from incompetent health care practices" (State of Tennessee, 2011). There are a number of arguments in this case study that incompetent health care practices are being performed, from the decision to place a patient on a ventilator for an oxygen saturation of 88%, circumventing the patient’s written and verbal advanced directives, utilizing an unauthorized family member to get consent for
In the corner of the small hospital room stood a shy little girl. “You shouldn't be in here, honey”, my mother said as she nudged me out of the room where my grandfather lay dying. At the time, I couldn't understand the enormity of the situation. Ignorant to what was happening around me, my innocent mind fled with curiosity. The beeping of the machines and the soft quick steps of nurses captivated my attention. I was fascinated with this strange new world. This is the moment that sparked my desire to become someone great; a nurse.
I tend to draw towards the leadership role when working with others or in groups because Strong opinions, a sharp focus, and a high productivity level are my leadership traits. Naturally, my mind forms a checklist of objectives that will lead to success. I am proactive, and have the initiative to do work without being told. Friends tell me that my ambition to complete homework in advance has motivated them to initiate their work. As a leader, I collaborate well with everyone; I respect and listen to all voices. My leadership qualities will benefit NHS in many ways, such as formulating and executing plans, problem solving, and encouraging collaborative
The profession of nursing is often looked at as taking care of sick people or treating physical well-being. Many do not realize that nursing encompasses so much more than that. It is very important to me to have a positive attitude that transfers to my coworkers and patients. I want to be committed to helping those in need and desire to be able to be a confident health educator. I think it is very important to use the knowledge I have in my area of expertise to instruct others where it is needed. I would like to be able to say I gave the highest quality of care that I could at the end of each day. I realize that not everything will always be perfect or smooth, and there is only so much I can do. However, many of the rough patches can be eased with hard work and a good outlook. I want to be able to form great relationships with my colleagues as well as the client and facilitate everyone working together. Nursing is a respectable profession and I hope to contribute my own compassion to the entire community.
It is going to be redesign in 2017. The purpose of redesign is to improve quality of chronic care patient. Chronic disease such as heart failure, stroke, cancer, diabetes are most common expensive and preventable health problem. According to Institute of medicine half of the American are not receiving good care for chronic disease. It is going to be chronic care model and patient centred medical model. It will improve quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of patient care. Also reducing cost and better satisfaction to the patient as well as the family.
There is so much to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) that can be confusing to many healthcare professionals, but there is also a great deal that is very straightforward and should be known by all who provide
The healthcare profession is an ever evolving world that has changed greatly over the course of history in response to the needs of the communities and world at large. Gone are the days of doctors traveling to homes and communities near and far to provide a service. So much of the care provided now is driven by policies, legal agenda and financial impact. As a result of the changing dynamics within the healthcare industry, the roles of medical personnel have transformed into something once unfathomable. Nursing is a key area where significant changes have been observed over the last half century. Due to the ever increasing number of patients within the healthcare system and a physician pool that is not growing at the same rate, there has
The theory is explained on the idea that the increased comfort of a patient or their family, the more they are ready to accept and react to the treatment plan. The theory can also be applied to the nursing profession in the sense that
I have shown leadership in roles such as being voted as senior class secretary in high school and also as secretary in my undergrad Nursing Student Association. These roles demand additional time, effort and responsibility in conjunction to being a student. As secretary of NSA, I was a member of a team. We scheduled meetings, set up fundraising activities, found speakers for our meetings, and ensured that our chapter was abiding by all laws. At times, this responsibility in addition to school was overwhelming but I am extremely organized and am able to cope well in intense situations. As a certified pharmacy technician for 4 years, I have been in many tense situations with patients and have had to quickly problem solve. I have encountered upset patients, confused patients, and patients with little pharmacological or healthcare knowledge. I have always been an advocate for these patients to ensure their understanding of what is going on, what medications they are taking, and their next steps in their care. Coming from a low socioeconomic class, I understand that the cost of healthcare is a key factor in patients adhering to recommended therapies. There has been many times where I have called a doctor to change to a cheaper medication in the same drug class as the prescribed medication. Small actions such as this make a huge difference in a patient’s life, wellness, and also their outlook on the healthcare system as a whole. When
The role of nurse practitioners is to be qualified to treat certain medical conditions of a patient without the direct supervision of a doctor. According to the American Association of Nurse practitioners, they’re becoming the health partner of choice for millions of Americans. A nurse practitioner can choose to work in various areas in the health care industry.
The purpose of this paper is to recognize, define, research and utilize the concepts that underscores my personal nursing philosophy for professional nursing practice. This paper also discusses the four metaparadigms of nursing with reference to professional practice.
The role that nurse practitioner (NP) plays within the increasing complex health care system is a constant changing role with the Consensus Model and the introduction of the Affordable Care Act in 2010. The scope of the nurse practitioner (NP) includes the care of the young, the old, the sick and the well. The educational needs of a nurse practitioner vary greatly from that of a Registered Nurse (RN), in the amount of education as well as the focus of the education. NPs provide coordinated primary care with the use of comprehensive health histories and physical examinations, diagnosing and treating acute and chronic illnesses, the management of medications and therapies, ordering and interpreting tests results, and educating and
“Leaders in health care should be upfront and leading by example to demonstrate their leadership abilities and assist with health care duties and responsibilities. A good leader says let’s go and gets things done instead of waiting for others to get them done. He must be in the front line seeing patients and managing the health care duties that makes their health care practices successful. An efficient leader must understand every-ones roles and responsibilities in order to appreciate what everyone does in the practice. Appreciating what each employee does for the practice is key to
Urgency of acute care varies depending on the situation but can range to anything from emergency surgeries, to injuries, chronic illnesses, and also for the recovery of those procedures. Majority of the patients in acute care settings are critically ill. Nursing responsibilities in acute care settings are vital to patient’s recovery due to the front line position nurses play as well as the wide variety of tasks carried out. Assessments are made during every encounter the nurse has with the patient along with monitoring the patient’s progress. Nurses are responsible for recognizing symptoms the patient may be experiencing due to illness or injury and whether they fall in the spectrum of normal reactions. Vital signs are measured routinely and can be indicators of the patient’s current status. When vitals are questioned diagnostic tests can be arranged to further assess possible comorbidities the patient may have. Care plans are made to plan interventions the health care team can take to help patients through challenges they face, both physical and mental. Nurses administer medications as well as first aid as needed. They are responsible for maintaining special equipment patients may require including monitors and ventilators are well.
My role models have always been nurses. When in hospital wards visiting family members or even on hospital placement, where I have completed over 500 hours, my attention has always been on the nurses, admiring their amazing work ethic and their ability to change someone’s life for the better, this is when I decided that I belonged in this profession. I am passionate about mental health as I have personal experience of witnessing and overcoming these issues. To this day, many still feel too uncomfortable to talk about it and I want to change that. For a long time, I was often in denial about my own struggles with mental health problems and have refused help because I could not accept my diagnosis. I convinced myself that ‘others had it worse’; this mind-set eventually made my condition deteriorate without me realising. As a result, I now advocate that my friends discuss it just like a physical ailment so that their struggles feel as valid as a broken leg or an infected wound; it is a wound in their mind.
