Where are my roots of optimism. The word optimism goes all the way back to the 1700s. A man named Gottfried Leibniz, believes in the Christian God. He thought God does things for the best and we should just accept what happens in life and act accordingly. Through his strong belief came the creation of Philosophical Optimism. Philosophical Optimism is looking at all things positive, no matter how bad things may be. With this belief, Leibniz, through his discoveries in science and mathematics, was able to create Calculus. This concludes how Optimism first started with a man with strong religious beliefs and powerful knowledge. We all have our own ways of how Optimism came into our lives. Optimism for me became very prominent in my …show more content…
It gives me joy. Playing the violin is what gives me optimism. On a societal level, one point I would like to bring up is how politics in today’s society affects the ways of my optimism today. I am very intrigued with the past 2016 presidential election. It came to my attention that there were many rumors about how Clinton should’ve won the election or how Trump won fair and square. There is a clear differences in America, but this is what makes us unified as a nation. We all have our own opinions and express what we believe in, just like Gottfried Leibniz. Former President Obama once stated “We are fortunate to be living in the most peaceful, most prosperous, most progressive era in human history”. He brings up a very good point. We should not be dictated by the controversial issues and worry about the public affairs that happen in this world. I want to be able to have optimism from this and learn, conquer, and accept life as it is. I want to be able to enjoy life to the fullest. Optimism was just a natural trait I picked up in my life, especially with the amount of influence my family had on me. They taught me that no one is perfect in this world and you will make mistakes in life. Trust me they were right on that note. Regardless, I have always known to be true to myself and tried to make my difficulties into opportunities. Even if I felt like giving up, I knew that I will have a great reward in the end if I kept my
In the words of Winston Churchill, "The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty." When we are optimistic that we can get a job done, or that we can find a cure for a disease, we are more motivated, and we work harder. A scientist who is pessimistic that they will never find a cure for a specific disease will have a mental mind block against finding a cure for a disease, making it considerably harder for them to find a cure. However, a scientist who is optimistic about finding a cure for a disease will be motivated and more focused on their dedication to discovering a cure for a disease such as cancer. When you are optimistic, you are more motivated, and when you are motivated, you are more productive, consequently making optimism a particularly important priority in everyday
In the same way that hope has colored the past, optimism and positive thinking has the ability to affect present situations. When enduring struggles or facing fears, hope can provide feelings of comfort. It can be used as a coping mechanism. Maya Angelou relates a tone of satisfaction when she weighs the conditions of her life
You feel happy when you are optimistic. This can result in you feeling more energetic, give you brighter eyes, and bring you success and happiness. You also walk with more confidence and have a stronger voice. Also, your positivity can spread to others, however, any negativity can also spread. Some ways to be positive are to not allow what other people say about you get to you. Other ways are to smile more, try to only visualize positive things, use positive words when talking to people, and don’t give up. (Sasson, The Power of Positive Thinking, Paragraphs 1, 14, 22, 23, 24, 25, and 27) These are great examples of why you would want to be optimistic and respond to conflict with positivity.
An article written by Kendra Cherry states, “By nurturing positive emotions, even in the face of terrible events, people can reap both short-term and long-term rewards, including managing stress levels, lessening depression, and building coping skills that will serve them well in the future” (Cherry). Optimism has allowed for people to deal with conflicts in a healthy way. Neuroscientist Tali Sharot in her book The Science of Optimism: Why We’re Hard-Wired for Hope argues that optimism provides an adaptive advantage. According to her, “Expecting our future to be good reduces stress and anxiety, which is good for our health. Researchers studying heart attack patients have found that optimists were more likely than nonoptimistic patients to take vitamins, eat low-fat diets, and exercise, thereby reducing their overall coronary risk” (Popova). Dealing with conflicts positively is better for your health and it decreases bad health
We don’t try hard enough or sacrifice ourselves to reach at our highest level of achievement. This is where the characteristic optimism comes useful to important situations or decisions in our lives. In one word, it’s best described as the predictor of success, which is
There are times in this world when rolling out of bed and putting on a brave face is the only thing that seems sensible enough to get you through the day. You slurp down your morning cup of coffee, glare at yourself in the mirror, and wonder what’s the point of it all? Why am I living my life half exhausted wandering from place to place doing what I’m told when I’m told to make myself a living? This is exactly how a pessimist often thinks;, they tend to see only the worst in a scenario or believe that only the lowest possible situation will happen. I have chosen not to live my life like that, I have chosen to not only try to lead each day with a positive mind and a healthy attitude, but I have also decided to spread optimism to others by the simple gestures such as a smile. I will admit that at times being an optimistic person isn’t always easy because
What is optimism? Optimism is reaching deep down and finding the confidence and hopefulness in yourself to overcome whatever may be holding your back. Challenges are constantly being thrusted into one’s life, and the difficulty of them is what makes us strive to get through it. Whether the challenge be big or small, there is always something to look forward to in life.
The number one characteristic of optimism that I possess is that I know I am fortunate for what I have in my life. My parents always wanted me to have a better life than they did growing up. They did not want me to struggle financially. Thankfully, I have made a few risky moves that turned out to be great for me. I came from Abbeville, South Carolina. If you don't know anything about the town I will let you in on a little secret. It's a very tiny town with limited jobs and limited things to do. So, when I turned seventeen I high-tailed it out of that little town and moved to Greer, South Carolina. I found a great job with awesome benefits. I met my husband Jay and a few years later we had
Opponents may say that It’ll be hard trying to change your personality to become an optimistic person. It’s not worth the trouble. They are wrong, according to the Mayo Clinic Staff working hard to maintain a positive attitude has numerous benefits: “ having a positive outlook enables you to cope better with stressful situations, which reduces the harmful health effects of stress on your body. It's also thought that positive and optimistic people tend to live healthier lifestyles” (Mayo Clinic Staff). Without a positive
The dictionary defines being optimistic as hopeful and confident about the future. The word “optimism” comes from the Latin word “optima,” meaning the best outcome or belief in the greatest good. It’s about looking at the glass as half full instead of half empty, seeing the good in the bad, looking for the light at the end of the tunnel, and making lemonade out of lemons.
As a human being living in this ruthless world, the perspective of how we see life plays great role in the success and happiness of a person. Optimism is seeing positive aspects of life. I as an immigrant I have had experienced the ups and downs of life to an extent where all I have to hold unto was hope and faith. My motto in life is seeing the light in all the darkness that was surrounding me. That is how I lived and will live. Being an optimist person has helped me to be more peaceful to myself and more confident.
If for some reason you don’t know what the words “Optimistic” or “optimism” means then that probably means you’re really not an optimistic person about things yourself. Anyways, just in case, being optimistic means that you’re hopeful and confident about the future, and always looking for the positive side of things over the negative aspects of them. Now I understand that being optimistic with things in life or situations that we go through can be very a difficult thing to do for most people, depending on what type of person they are. I mean, someone can just be genuinely happy about their life and the positive things that come out of it, but then there are people out there that are maybe just two seconds away from just giving everything up, they’re maybe at a point in their life
Where are my roots in optimism comes from the Bible, My family, and Basketball. The Bible teaches me to have hope lets me know I have a future. Jeremiah 29:11 states “ For I know the plans I have for you they are to prosper you not to harm you and give you a hope and a future.” So knowing that one day i'll live eternity in a beautiful and perfect place with my family and my ancestors before me lets not only me but my family be very optimistic.
Being optimistic is the main principle for most people. We may often hear the statement about “be an optimist, not a pessimist!” shouted by people. Sometimes you do it for yourself too. When facing such a failure or problem, this will not only help to relieve your heart. Being optimistic will help someone to be healthy in physical and mental. An optimist will find the best way in any circumstance and hope for every good thing can come to him/her. You may have gone through thousands of hard times. However, if you are a born optimist then you will not care of anything destructing you.
Optimistic and pessimistic attitudes constantly affect the outcome of people's lives. In my life, I try to keep an optimistic attitude about the things I do because I know it will help lead me to more desirable ends. There have been many situations in which optimism has helped me through difficult times. Two areas in particular have provided me optimistic experiences: athletics
