We used this in high school and college as well. Conflict, crisis, resolution
A good writer is someone who knows how to write well, have ideas to put on paper and write a well-organized essay that answers the question that a professor gives to you. I identify my own writing by not being good because I have issues sometimes getting words on paper, organizing the essay and my grammar is not very well. The methods that are effective for improving my own writing is practice writing and have someone proof read my work. I am in COM100L because my grammar is not good and my writing on paper is all over the place. My expectation for this course is to improve my grammar when I write essays and fix my mistakes when I write.
What is your main writing strategy? Why do you use it? What one other strategy apart from those on the list do you use? Are your strategies dependent on the type of text you are composing?
English Composition I has developed my style of writing and my skills analyzing and researching topics to write a piece about a topic. Throughout the course, I got better at analyzing articles and pieces to get the meaning of the topic. With that improved skill I was more able to use the information given from the text and install it into my essays, with proper citation if needed. Before taking the English Composition course, I was not one to organize my essays in an ordeal order to clearly state the point of the work. Now with taking the course, I have learned to organize my essays, examine research for a topic, and develop an essay with proper mechanics, and revising skills. In writing my personal, review, analytical, and cultural
Writing was never a known weakness of mine. However, I could never confidently call it a strength. Throughout the course of this semester, my writing style has evolved and I have rid my writing of many habitual mistakes. I have learned to appreciate writing much more, and enjoy the moments where my mind meets words on a paper. Creativity has always been one of my strong suits, but through this course I catered my creativity to compose a variety of essays and speeches. Likewise, public speaking is something that I did not struggle with in the past, yet the structure of the class required a video speeches which was fairly new to me. All in all, I have been able to identify and modify gaps in my composition of writing and speech as a result of this course.
Whenever I get a writing assignment for class, it seems like a chore. I don’t have a problem with writing, but papers always seem to take more time than they should. Maybe this is due to poor planning on my part, but essays are usually an ordeal, and I dread actually doing the work to finish one. The task is simple enough, but putting it off always seems like a better alternative to writing. I do think about the paper that I have to write, but I do not put thoughts and ideas into a paper or outline until I absolutely need to do so. From the moment I am given an assignment sheet, I begin brainstorming about the paper. I may not use any of these ideas, but I think of them. I also have a tendency to forget good ideas, which leads me to think
Writing is so much easier when you don’t have a ridiculous amount of guidelines you have to follow. With literary freedom, we are able to express ourselves more than if we have to follow a specific set of rules for every thing we write. This is one downfall for high school English. We have to order our papers in a specific sequence while writing about a topic that is chosen for us. This English composition class changed all of that. We were able to write about anything that related to the given type of essay, which greatly improved our ability to fully immerse ourselves into every paper. This greatly affected my writing thoughts about writing; they changed from hating to write for school to actually enjoying it because I was able to
Three strategies for improving my writing are to expand my vocabulary, proofread my work and read more than I already do. These strategies will help improve my overall quality of work. Expanding my vocabulary would be a great way to improve my writing. At this age, the majority of my writing will most likely be essays, therefore the texts I compose should be sophisticated and clear, so that I can still make my arguments, convey my ideas and get my points across in a way readers will understand.
You have to struggle in order to perform better. In my opinion, i am a little creative and critical in my writing, i guess you could call it creatively critical or critically creative. some writing habits i have are my usage of detail and description. Sometimes i may over describe something, adding too many details, and some of them may become a little redundant. Another habit would be comparing one thing to another thing using similes or metaphors. I think that the comparisons help to paint a picture in the mind of whoever reads my writing so they can better understand it. I have always been a thinker .Writing had always been one of my strengths, but it was still challenging .
I used my many different techniques for my papers throughout the term. Some of the techniques and methods were more helpful than other techniques and methods. I excelled at some method that James D. Lester recommended to try and I failed at some other methods that she recommended. They were some methods that I haven't grasp yet and can definitely work on in the future. In this paper, it will showcase what I did well at during the writing process of writing a research paper and what I could have improved while writing the research papers throughout the term
Writing has been the normal way of communicating for hundreds of centuries. Ever since the early Hieroglyphs of ancient Egypt in 3000 B.C.E. to the well recognized Greek scripts, writing has been one of the best forms of communicating. With any type of writing there are specific types of guidelines and rules that a writer must follow to sound intelligent to make the reader understand him/her clearly. In the English language, there are different types of formats to write and hundreds of ways to write in that format. For example, a simple poem can be wrote so many ways, and the poem can either rhyme with a A-B-A-B format, A-A-B-B- format, or not even rhyme at all. When it comes to essays, they need to be very precise and structured.
Habits that hinder my success in writing is the fact that I tend to struggle with the usage of a comma, my sentence structural. Over the past my writing skills have improved tremendously. I also tend to get into the habit of not giving myself enough credit when it comes to me grading my papers or reviewing them. I sometimes will compare my writing assignment to someone else’s and critic it based off theirs. Ways that I have been working on my habits are I keep a journal, and I write in it all day every day and I try to write as if I’m turning it in for a grade to a teacher. That way I know I’m using the correct spelling and improving my grammatical
Everyone has different techniques in their writing process. Some people analyze the prompt and others simply glance over it. Although, everyone is taught the same writing process they still have their own way of writing. In order to make their paper standout, they need to think creatively. Writing can be a piece of cake or difficult for students. Many students pay attention to certain steps more. I pay more attention to brainstorming ideas, but sometimes in order to be an effective writer I need to focus on everything as a whole. Everyone has their own twist when developing their essay like analyzing the prompt, brainstorming, and proofreading.
There are many writing styles that many people pick up as they go through there many years of schooling. Each person picks up the same type of writing styles but as years go by people seem to pick up there own little types of writing style that separates them from everyone else. As I have gone through many years of English classes I have acquired more and more skills and many more are sure to come as I continue my education. My writing skills have only gotten better from the time of ninth grade English class until today. Since my days back in junior high school I was only taught the basic skills to write papers and since then they have grown to make me a decent writer. I have many strengths and also
Writing an essay in its entirety is challenging to some and to others it may not be. The key is to learn the dos and do nots when writing an essay. Today, there is still confusion on what English writers should say to get their point across and do it effectively without any problems. The usual English 101 writer has difficulty with 3 techniques. They include taking the most common side, the use of pat expressions, and the use of colorless words.
Writing an academic essay means fashioning a coherent set of ideas into an argument. Because essays are essentially linear—they offer one idea at a time—they must present their ideas in the order that makes most sense to a reader. Successfully structuring an essay means attending to a reader 's logic.
