The most incredible summer that I would never forget began on June 22, 2016. It was about 4:30 in the morning when my aunt and parents woke me up so we can catch our first flight at the Richmond International Airport. This was my first time in nine years that I could go back to China to visit my relatives and grandparents. On this trip, I was going with my Aunt Ying and my grandmother because my parents were too busy with work to take me. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the Richmond International Airport, it was too late to board our flight, so we had to be rerouted to our destination. From there, we encountered more problems. For instance, the flight to Dallas Fort Worth was too full so they had to reroute us to the Chicago O’Hare Airport. When we arrived in Chicago, we luckily had just enough time to catch our flight to Beijing, which was fifteen hours! After an extensive flight, we arrived at the Beijing Capital Airport and we realized that the aircraft we came on arrived a lot later than it was scheduled so we had no time to get to our connecting flight. However, American Airlines offered us FREE hotels to spend the night and told us that our new rerouted flight will be on Air China, which would be departing the next morning. We came into the airport early the next morning realizing that the whole place was crowded with people checking in bags and people standing in line for security checks. After an hour or two of trying to get through security and check-in, we
Beth was an interesting woman to say the least. She was very talkative and had an eccentric personality. She might have been a smidge under the influence on this very normal afternoon but she was still a nice and fun person to talk to. Ashley and Kevin and I got to know her and all about her family all too well sitting at the bar at TGI Friday’s.
On November 19th, 2016, My family and I were going to Western Michigan University. We were heading off to watch the football and hockey game, my father told me it would take a few hours. Hours went flying by it felt like we were in a race car, we finally arrived hours later. We went straight to the dining area, it smelled like fresh made pasta and many more thrilling smells. As we made our way through the crowd, we found a table to sit at. Afterwards when we found a seat, we went darting off in many directions to look at all the food stations. Few minutes passed by when we all swarm like bees back to the table. We all seated and started eating, we talked about what we got for food.
It was still about five hours until our flight and Alfred looked starved after going without food for an hour. We found a parking spot to abandon his car in until we came back from the trip. The bus to the terminal took a while, but it did not justify waking up so early for the 11 o’ clock flight. It wasn’t until we got inside that I found out just how much the airport has changed. We checked in our luggage and printed out our tickets at this machine that scanned our passports. We went up an escalator to find our gate, but before we could get to it there was this huge line we had to go through.
I was born in Hartford, Connecticut and at the age of 3 years old, my parents
First, we arrived at the airport at sunset, and the sun began to start sinking below the building. We unpacked the vehicle and walked to the revolving doors that were marked ‘‘Entrance C’’. My mom and I sat down in seats that were in small rows while my dad made sure the tickets and luggage was all correct. We had an hour and a half delay. Once we entered I noticed the plane was completely filled. We sat down in our seats and patiently waited for the plane to take off. As I
It was about twelve o’clock a.m. when the plane landed, one o’clock our time, and the first thing we had to do was go through customs. Customs isn’t really bad, but the line is long and so is the wait, although this year I had my dad on the trip so he did all the paperwork for me. It was about one o’clock when everyone was done going through customs, getting luggage, and going through another security precaution. However, everyone got through great and
The summer of 2006 was hot and relentless, luckily I was in the airport, spared from experiencing the heat. I was seven years old and preparing to go to China with my grandpa. The flight to China was a horrible thirteen hour journey. I was feeling restricted in my seat, experiencing a horrible headache and was feeling nauseous from airsickness. After thirteen hours of suffering, we finally landed in China. I was ecstatic and had never before, in my entire seven years of life, been so happy to see the ground.
“Wow, what a beautiful sunset. “ everybody said excited looking at the sunset while being swallowed by the ocean. We were all sitting in the cold wet sand together enjoying the view as a whole family. “We made a great choice coming to the beach before the sun set” said my dad. We all agreed with him. After looking at the sunset we all went to go eat dinner at a Mexican restaurant because everybody was craving Mexican food. I ordered a burrito with steak and rice inside. My parents both ordered the same thing as always which was steak fajitas. My cousins also got a burrito but they got pulled pork burritos. And my brother and sister got flautas which are tacos but they come in a hard-shell tortilla. After we finished eating, we all headed to my cousin’s place to have a small welcome party because we didn’t have a welcome party the day the we got to California the day that we came. Later we all slept at their place because everybody was really tired and we didn’t want to go find a hotel to stay in so we stayed in my cousin’s place.
“The best things in life are the people we love and the places we’ve been…. And the memories we’ve made along the way.” by Unknown. The year of 2017 started off terrible, nothing was going right. A few months later something amazing happened, but only with help from God. My family found out we won a trip to Hawaii. My parents had to decide whether or not they should take us kids with. My parents talked it through, and they decided that it would be our last family vacation with just our family saying Chris is a senior and is headed off to college the next year and probably will find a girlfriend. Us kids were happy to go after everything bad that has happened to us. I know for sure Hawaii made me look at life a different way. Saying everything that just happened to my family.
It was our 2013 christmas vacation trip to Brazil. And it was one of the best trips because it was summer time in Brazil. When we were in Brazil we decided we wanted to take a trip to the Matinhos beach which was one hour away from the city where my family lived. In order to arrive at the beach we had to go down the mountains, and it was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. The mountains were covered with so many trees and it seemed like there were endless flowers in the mountains. While we were driving through the mountains we found little shop where they make fresh squeezed sugar cane juice. It was my very first time trying it, and ever since then that is my favorite drink whenever i visit Brazil. We also stopped at a river on the mountain. It was beautiful but kind of hard for me because, I forgot to mention I also broke my wrist a week before this beach trip. But I still enjoyed myself at the river with my brothers and my cousins. Afterwards, we continued driving to our destination but then out of nowhere, My earliest memory… it was the loudest bang of my life. I just remember being confused to what was happening. An eighteen wheeler had crashed into my cousins crammed buggy, while my family and I were on our way to the beach in Brazil. I’m surprised i’m still alive, because I wasn’t wearing my seatbelt, and i was in the middle seat.
At the beginning of summer my parents already started planning vacations for our family. My dad especially worked on planning our trips in detail. We planned for weddings, visits with family and our friends, and one trip my dad was especially excited for, the eclipse trip. He asked me and my brothers if we would be willing to go with him because my dad loves spending time with us. I have two brothers having me being the middle child. My younger brother wanted to go but me and my older brother told our dad we were not as sure having my mom sit this trip out.
On August 4, 2017 I went on vacation to finally meet my family in Mexico. My grandmother Margarita Barrera Diego and my uncle Adolfo, from my dad side, were waiting on me and my siblings at the airport. It was such an emotional moment for us since most of my grandmothers children were raised in the United states of America, she didn’t get the chance to experience having her children in Mexico and being a mom, thus making us her grandkids the chance to be a mother and to get to know us more.
When I was about seven or eight I almost fell into a river. It was on summer vacations my family and I where in Mexico. That morning we had to go somewhere it was like an eight hour drive. My dad woke us up really early in the morning. I got up and changed and brushed my teeth. That morning my mom made me food I could smell it from upstairs. The food was delicious I finished it fast. After breakfast I watched TV with my brothers. My mom called my brothers over to where she was.I heard them laughing I went to check on them and saw them and they were on the cold floor. I didn’t even want to ask why they were on the floor I could still hear the tv in the background. I went into the kitchen to get juice. I grabbed the cold orange juice that was in the fridge. I poured myself into a clear yellow cup. I could taste the sweet juice go into my mouth. After my dad got home from go somewhere. We packed all of our stuff in the car.
It was the summer of 2015, and I woke up early for my two-week vacation to Costa Rica. It was weird being up this early on summer break, but it was worth it. I made sure my bag was ready to go and that I packed everything. I brushed my teeth took a shower, and put my sweatshirt and pants on. From experience, I knew that the airport temperature would be cold so I wanted to feel warm. I came downstairs and arrived in front of a plate of pancakes. When I was half way done my sister finally came downstairs. My dad entered the kitchen, and he got a little worried he said, “If we don’t hurry we could miss our plane”! From the 4 years of traveling on a plane, we always were on time and nothing bad ever happened, this might be the time. My family rushed to the car, and we all started freaking out and my whole family was yelling and shouting. Everyone that passed us were looking at us like crazy. We finally reached the airport and lugged our bags through the whole airport trying to make our flight. My aunt called my mom wondering where we were. My mom said, “We aren’t going to make it. Just leave without us”, then, my aunt asked what happened and what we were going to do. My mom didn’t have all the answers, but I knew we were going to figure it out as a family like we always do.
In the past sixteen years in my life I have traveled to fifteen states and one other country. I traveled across the United States to New York, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington D.C, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. The other country I went to was Canada. When I went to these places it was either over the summer or with school on a trip. These traveling experiences have shaped my childhood and made me become the person I am today. From all the traveling I’ve done in my life, I now love to travel and I’m glad I get to go every month to Michigan to visit my family.
