My Virtual Child, Violet is at Preconventional Level. During the preconventional level mortality is externally controlled. Meaning mortality is based on the opinions of authority figures. Behaviors that result in punishment are viewed as bad, those that lead to rewards are good. For example, “During a trip to a competition, students from one of the vocal groups at Violet's school stole some trinkets from a store and they were caught. They were suspended from school. Violet agrees with the punishment because they did not live up to the expectations of their parents, their coach or their teammates.” (My Virtual Child, 2014) I brought up laws of society (e.g., against shoplifting) However, Violet could not get past the weight of violating other’s
1) Q: You are starting to notice that Preslee's crying is rhythmic and moderately loud when she is hungry, wet, or cold. If she is startled, there is a sudden intake of breath and a loud wail, followed by more deep breaths and loud wails. A: You try to respond to the different types of crying by changing, feeding, or soothing little Preslee.
Raising a Virtual Child had been a great experience for me. This assignment made me better understand why adolescents are the way they are. I had my own expectation before the onset of this project, how my virtual child was going to be at age of 18? I was expecting that my child would be a successful and obedient one. She would be nice and polite, follow rules and will be good in education. For me, while raising a child, bonding between child and parents is an important factor to consider. It makes child feel secure and let know that his/her parents are there to look after their needs. Communication between parent and child is important too. It will provide a great scenario for learning and aid in cognitive development. Discussing problem with parents and finding a solution is the best way to go during the childhood. I think parenting is not that much hard as it seems but is absolutely a sensitive and responsible task to raise a child. I had enjoyed raising my virtual child and hope my feedback is going to be a good one too.
One idea, I agree with, from Chapter Three discussed how punishment hinders ethical development. Before students act out or do something bad, they think about what consequences they might face for such actions. This “suggests a disturbingly primitive level of moral development, yet it is our use of punishment that causes kids to get stuck there” (p. 29). I could not agree more with this sentence. I remember as a child thinking about doing something bad and the consequences that might result. I remember how I typically would do the “bad” thing because either I would not get caught or I could take the consequences. However, the book suggests getting children to think about the consequences of their misbehaviors is not effective and does not instill better values or awareness of others’ needs. Because of this, we as educators must
Once you have raised your virtual child through age 5, respond thoroughly to the following questions.
The virtual child stimulation is an online program that offers students a feel of what it is like to raise a child and make parenting-decisions concerning that child. Students also learn about the situations that occur in the three main life stages, and see how their decisions determine how their child will turn out. The focus of this assignment will be on my virtual child, Jason, the problems that occurred in the life stages, and the options I chose when raising Jason.
Adolescence is defined as the transition between childhood and adulthood. Many changes happen at this stage. Adolescence involves things such as puberty, greater independence, and a time when someone begins to construct their identity. Identity means their life value and goals including a secure sense of who they are in terms of sexual, vocational, and moral ethics. In the next few paragraphs I will be discussing my Virtual Child, Maeve as she went through adolescence (ages 11- 16). I am going to delve into the different changes I saw in her and how they relate to theories proposed by Piaget, Erikson, Marcia, and Gardner. Each
With what I have learned from the My Virtual Child program, I now understand the complexities of raising and guiding a child. Mere decisions made during infancy can affect a child long term, physically, cognitively, and even emotionally. To make important developmental decisions cannot simply be classified as a challenge, it is one of the hardest things parents experience. Making decisions for one’s self, as opposed to making decisions for one’s child is so challenging that most people will not understand until they have children. Even with the realistic impression this program has, I would venture to say that even
His early moral development is affected by this delay and the inconsistent parenting among the siblings. In the moral development domains, there are evidenced delays in the areas of emotion, knowledge, and action. This is evidenced by Arnie’s habit of climbing the tower in town regardless of redirection from authority figures and ill regard for his well being by participating in such a behavior. There is no true consequence for his negative behaviors. According to Newman & Newman (2012) “Moral behaviors can be shaped by the consequences that follow them” (pg 250). For a mental health counselor, teaching the family to develop moral development by introducing learning theories can assist in positive behaviors from Arnie. Evaluation of the family parental discipline techniques can help prepare treatment and carefully plan for treatment.
Stage 2 of the Preconventional level is based on mutual benefit. This is where their morals rely on what is and isn’t “fair” or “right.” As previously mentioned, stage 2 is a little more opened minded than stage 1. They see that there is not only one “right” way; they also realize that everything is relative. In other words, if someone were to steal money to feed their hungry children, the child would say that was “right.” Kohlberg tested this theory by presenting children with scenarios such as the one mentioned. In these scenarios, children often mentioned mentioned the consequences associated with the action; they also mentioned why it might be “right” or “fair.”
The student I focused on for this child art analysis report is an eleven-year-old male, and his name is Rustin. Rustin is in the fifth grade and currently resides in Smyrna, Ga with his father, mother, younger sister, and his pet cat. Both of Rustin’s parents are English speaking Caucasians that were born and raised in Georgia. Rustin is an older brother to his five-year-old sister, and they are both Caucasian and speak English. My student’s living environment consists of a two-parent household in a middle class neighborhood in Smyrna. Rustin’s parents both work full time but are able to stay very involved in their children’s lives. The student remains very active through sports teams such as soccer and tennis. Rustin is an extremely bright
I grouped together children between the age of six and twelve. And I explained to them the story about the Druggist and Heinz who wife was near death from a special kind of cancer (Berger 2014), and her husband was having a dilemma to pay for the drug that would cure his wife. He could not raise the exact amount of money that the Druggist was demanding. As time passed by, he raised half of the money. But the Druggist demand that the money must be pay in full. On his wife dying bed, her husband decided to break into the druggist store to steal the medicine for his wife. The children jumped into conclusion that the man action were justifiable because life trump over money and even if her husband might spend time in prison. I noticed that they
When I first heard that I would be raising a virtual child, I did not fully understand how this would change my ideology on decision making and critical thinking and how my thoughts and ideas would impact the life of another human being. After I told my parents that I would be raising a child online, they had two reactions. Reaction number one consisted of them laughing because the thought of raising a child online seemed like a joke because I had absolutely no idea how to raise a child. Reaction number two came later and was more of an intrigued attitude than before. My parents watched me click buttons and run through thought processes on making decisions in how to raise my child from birth to 18 years in a matter of weeks.
In My Children, Zhu Ziqing shows his view of life amidst the non-tranquility of both society and his family. I am surprised at Zhu Ziqing’s boldness and blunt honesty when he mentions how he used to treat his children, ways that I don’t agree with, but could understand. Zhu Ziqing refers to a poem that stated how the poor had to “live with constant reunions and separations.” Zhu Ziqing must have faced a lot of pressures from society and home since he had to raise five children. He mentions how he uses “traditional ways” to deal with his children. From this, I can tell that in ancient and imperial China, parents think it is sometimes necessary for them to physically beat their children in order to better instruct them. This reminds me of the
Throughout the human history, punishment has been thought to be the most effective way of deterring bad behaviors in school going children and most people believe it is. Punishment inhibits children from engaging in unlawful activities such as pickpocketing and burglary while their ethics and morals keep them from crimes such as rape and cheating (Greydanus et al., 383).
Cultural Hybridity as understood by Homi Bhabha (1994, 1999) involves human beings as the creators, not the bearers of culture. Due to the individuality and the innovativeness of each human being it also follows that any particular culture cannot be concretely described in terms of its specific contents and constituents. “To my children’s children”, by Magona Sindiwe, is of critical significant in understanding the changing identity depicted in the story. The term is utilized as a part of a wide point of view in various scenes, which as it were, help the per user in taking in a few lessons in light of the setting or the plot of the story. In that capacity, the blend of various personalities in the story line, is of basic commitment towards drawing out the best of the social practices, accepts and demeanors of the groups crosswise over different back ground. Sindiwe story in the “To my children’s children ", is such an exciting portrayal, as the portrayal of a young lady experiencing childhood in a politically-sanctioned racial segregation stricken condition unfurls. For this situation, the young lady encounters a blend of social experience, desires and also culture stun. The story in the book, "To my children’s children” is a deep rooted story of Magona's life while in the town where they were raised, under the care of the colossal grandma, a matriarchal family (Whitehead). The general public and also the family is portrayed to be joyful,
