I believe that my writing has grown tremendously over the school year. I truly believe that I used more complex vocabulary in my writing since the first writing assignment that the class participated in. I feel that my initial strengths were able to have an idea of how the flow of my writing will go but the syntax and word choices were hard to form out. I have learned so much new strong diction that relates to the general topic that is presented in the question or assignment. I believe that this class has really prepared me for the next part of my education and the latter part of my life.

Based on my observations of the assessments, K.M lacks proper fluency and comprehension skills. In addition, based upon her continuous pausing while reading, I can indicate there is a speech area of concern. K.M. battles with making the accurate connections needed to produce reading comprehension. She often appears lost and completely off topic. Although K.M. displays vocabulary understanding, there is a misinterpretation of linking the vocabulary meaning to the actually passage/text being read aloud. Furthermore, K.M. when uncertain about an answer tends to guess a whole heap. The fluency levels show a slight growth, however it is not a huge jump. K.M. assessment indicates she is reading below grade level (2nd grade) and needs intervention
Leonardo Da Vinci once said, “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” Many times when we write, we tend to over-use “fancy” words and try too hard to make our writing sound smart. This extra “fluff” and weirdly placed “buzz words” may not quite make sense in the context, but “of course, they’re AP vocab words I have to use them and it is a very loose synonym so it works right?” Sometimes, the best, and most “smart-sounding” way to get your point across is to write it out straight forward and not discombobulate your main idea with extra and unnecessary phrases and words. Less is more.
The past two semesters were great experiences. Within this past school year my knowledge as a reader and writer has improved. It felt like it was just yesterday, when I had a lot of difficulty writing and poor reading strategies. Now, as I said before, I am an improved writer and reader. The assignments and class activities over the two semesters were great benefits to me, and helped me make progress towards the first year learning goals.

It was my first writing class as a college freshmen and I did not know what to expect, like whether or not the class would be harder compared to what I took in high school or even if I would enjoy taking class. But as soon as day one turned in into week one, than soon week fifteen I felt more comfortable in the class than what I have probably felt in the beginning. I felt like I could write anything my professor threw at me, because through writing I could express my individuality. It gives me the freedom to express myself through words, and write about things I felt passionate about writing about. I felt as though I writing because I wanted to, and less because I was assigned to do so.
I entered the fall semester viewing myself as a non-writer. I have always had trouble getting the ideas and thoughts out of my head and onto paper. I have always been more comfortable stating aloud what I thought as opposed to writing them down. This semester has taught me a great deal. I have learned that I am capable of accomplishing college level writing. Even more, I have learned that I can focus and dig deeper to add more detail than I had thought I could when I started this semester.
The beginning of my junior year seems like it was such a long time ago. This may be because of how much I have grown since the start of the year. When I began AP English, my writing skills needed improvement. For instance, I often used incorrect grammar and struggled with staying on topic. In just one semester, my writing has improved immensely. The more than I write, the more I learn about how to craft a good paper. I have worked on improving my grammar, using rhetoric, addressing my subject, and many more elements of writing. In addition to improving my writing, I have gained many skills to become a better student. I have learned about effective study techniques and time-management skills that allow me to be the most successful. Since I always try my best, I know that over time I will continue to grow in my studies. This year I have gained countless skills that will help me succeed in English in the future.
As for college so far this year, my writing has improved. English 101 has taught me more about developing my papers than what I previously knew about writing. Revision is an important part when finalizing any of my papers. As I wrap up writing each essay, going back over it to make sure that it all the readers will understand the point of the paper. As this semester comes to an end, I am able to gain insight of structure through the significance of the PIE format, more organized ideas, and rereading sentences with correct use of grammar.

My strong points as a reader have also definitely improved after reading the poems and stories we experienced this semester. Writing has been an important form of expression for me. I find myself to be very soft spoken and speaking verbally is usually difficult for me because I can’t always seem to find the right words to say. I feel that I am more expressive and have more control over what I want to say. While this semester progressed toward its end, I have learned new writing skills and gradually learned how to engage with audiences. This skill was very useful in meeting my course goals in English 102.
Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 101 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. This was my first college writing course and it has given me much more freedom when writing because in high school I felt limited and like what we were writing was not very important. In high school I would write essays to just to fulfill the required word or page count and to a degree I still feel like this but maybe that is why I am an engineering major but in this course I actually was able to express my ideas and for the first time really test the limits of my writing capabilities. I feel my writing has improved due to the help of the writing process and all the writing assignments I experienced. I was able utilized each of these components this semester. I wrote various journals and two essays, which were very challenging to me. The first essay I was asked to write, was a Narrative essay about an experience in which later I questioned my actions. At first, I was very nervous due to I have never written an essay before. I did not even know where to begin.
As I sit down to finally write my reflection essay, I stare at the clock and it glares back at me, the numbers 11:24. All I can think is, how will possibly be able to finish this essay in a reasonable amount of time, so I can get some sleep. Upon further thinking, I know that sleep is already out of the question. The only thing that can keep me going is determination. This whole year I have been riding on determination and through my hard work I have been able to improve many aspects of my writing. Entering level four English next year, I feel slightly apprehensive, yet confident that my growth in expressing my opinion to the reader through adept word choice and quote integration will lead me to success.
My writing skills which I have worked on over the few months I have been in English 102 have changed quite a bit in my opinion. There are many things which I have improved upon that were amongst my weaker writing skills when the year began. On the opposite side of that point, there are also many things which I still need to improve upon if I want to truly elevate my writing to a level that I will be confident in. Finally, I have gained new skills outside of writing from this class, particularly the activities which we did in class at various points throughout the year. These things all cumulate together to give me an appreciation of English courses which I did not previously have.
