Whats happening… Leadership can be about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure that the impact lasts in your absence. The leadership program has been such a wonderful experience for those within the district. There are so many positive things that have come out of the program so far. The fundamentals which include Myer's Briggs Type Indicator have given the groups a great way to connect to one another and get to know each other better. This can continue within each school and classroom to help build on and create a positive environment for adult-adult, adult-student and student-student relationships. Achieving a school district’s mission and vision requires the commitment of its stakeholders. In order to involve them in the process, it is necessary for educational leaders to “motivate staff, parents, students, board and community members” (Educational Leadership Constituencies Council, 2002, p. 4). The transformational leadership theory emphasizes the importance of educational leaders acting as role-models in order to motivate and inspire the school community. This approach has the potential to involve all stakeholders, leading to increased student success (Bush, 2007). The Assistant Director of Special Education in Northwest ISD directly supervised the school district’s assessment staff. Her education, experience, and passion set an example for her subordinates, stimulating them to achieve more, leading to her promotion to Executive Director of Student Services.

It is more beneficial to students if leadership is widely spread in a school.
Literature states that leadership is displayed as a persistent and positive activity (Fitzgerald and Gunter, 2008 cited in Siraj-Blachford and Hallet, 2014, pg.9). According to Rodd (2006), early childhood practitioners need to be effective leaders to make sure their roles and responsibilities are carried out effectively. Although leadership can be learned or developed, it is important that all individual gains access to professional training and opportunities to practice, refined and broadened (Rodd, 2006). Therefore, the importance of leadership and implementation to the setting is recognized by all Early Years Leaders. Leadership can be displayed as a process in which one person, usually it is the leaders role and responsibility to set the purpose or direction for one or more other persons. Then later on gets them to move along together with him or her and with each other in that direction with competence and fill commitment. (Jacques and Clement, 1994, cited in Briggs and Briggs, 2009). Siraj-Blatchford and Hallet (2014) adds that leadership is also known as a process for personal and professional learning and development; organizational change and improvement. Rodd (2013) defines leaders working in early childhood sector as people who are able to influence the behaviours of others to achieve a certain goal or planned outcome. As a result of this project, the Guelph CVI DECA chapter and it’s chapter members have gained many benefits. One of the most important benefits that the chapter and it’s members gained is the understanding of leadership development. To start real change, one needs to take a leadership role instead of waiting for someone else to take the initiative. Multiple chapter members took a role of a leader in efforts to push this project through the school and community. The chapter members were able to develop their leadership skills as many of them were given jobs to complete. Some of the goals pushed chapter members out of their comforts zones and got them to take a leadership role within the school to inspire and encourage other students to help make a change. Many of the tasks had a specific outline and timeline that needed to be followed. This gave the members real world experience with meeting goals on a deadline. If this project is continued on an annual basis, it will provide opportunities for future DECA members to further their practice in leadership skills before entering the workforce.
After taking the Myer-Briggs Type Indicator test, I have discovered that I have the ISTJ, The Logistician, personality type. First, as with other personality types, there are many strengths and weaknesses of having the ISTJ personality. ISTJs write best when using facts and data and struggle when developing personal thoughts and opinions. When looking over my previous essays, I noticed the best ones are either research papers or essays involving little commentary on the subject. Therefore, the test is right in that my best works are written concretely. Next, ISTJs can write close to the deadline of an assignment. This is true because I write best when I have the pressure of the assignment being due soon; thus, I come up with fake deadlines
Through StuCo, I was given many opportunities to attend various leadership programs, the most noteworthy being the BASIC Leadership Workshop sponsored by the Oklahoma Association of Student Councils. At BASIC, I learned how to be the most efficient leader I could be through performing group tasks and solving problematic situations, including creating a hypothetical school with its own song and chant and addressing the struggles of student involvement in the form of a skit. I was trained to apply the concept of consensus to group decision-making by listening to and considering everyone’s ideas and reaching a solution through discussion. I was introduced to new ways to promote school spirit and unity within my own school through pep rally activities, class competitions, and service projects. I was also taught skills for success in life, such as setting goals, dealing with obstacles, and staying motivated. When I first took the Myer Briggs personality test I was unsure about what this test would uncover about my personality or if it would even be accurate. After figuring out that my personality type was classified as ISFJ or introverted, sensing, feeling, and judging, I felt my skepticism subside and was eager to find out how this would compare to my actual personality. Much to my surprise the results of the Myer Briggs test described my personality flawlessly and educated me on what kind of qualities people that share my personality have. The more I read about my personality type the more I could see how it related to my life such as my career goals, relationships, and how God might use my personality for his kingdom.

With a deeper understanding of ourselves and others, and how our thoughts and personalities are different, working together would (hopefully) be easier. Unfortunately, humans cannot do that. But it hasn’t stopped us from attempting something similar. Developed in the 1940’s and 1950’s, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator has been tested hundreds upon hundreds of times, with accurate results. Research is ongoing, and millions of people have taken the instrument since it’s conception.
