‘Chances are there are foods you love now that you hated as a kid.’ (Rose, 2012). I remembered years ago when my mother first introduced me to Nasi Kerabu and I looked at her in disbelief and asked, “Ma, are you sure this bright blue colored food is edible?” Nonetheless, who would have thought that it will be one of my favorite foods now? Simply the smell from the combination of fresh herbs, spicy coconut gravy, coconut flake fish, fish crackers and grilled chicken is enough to make me salivate. Nasi Kerabu is traditionally originated from Kelantan and the crowd pleasing meal is regarded by the food aficionados as one of the Malaysia’s finest cuisine. Nasi Kerabu may require back-breaking preparations and steps to prepare the add-ons that complement the dish, but, the end-result is indeed well worth the effort. After you have washed and drained the rice, soak it together with the blue pea flowers in a bowl containing lukewarm water for about 5 minutes to get the blue extract.
