The acquisition of Philippines by the United States is the topic that is going to be focused upon throughout this paper. The historical context of this topic deserves to analyzed with reference to both the primary and secondary readings assigned. The highlighted issue takes place after the treaty of Paris was signed between the United States and Spain which liberated Spain’s remaining colonies. Towards the end of the 19th century, Americans were influenced by the ideology of imperialism. They believed that advanced industrialized nations like the United States, Great Britain and France needed to acquire colonies in order to provide raw materials to feed their industrial economies. Extensive markets were wanted in order to sell finished products to those colonial masses.
archipelago: a group of islands clustered closely together, generally in the ocean but occasionally occurring in other bodies of water. Archipelagoes are typically made up of volcanic islands, also called “oceanic islands”. Several major geographical regions consisted of an archipelago, including Hawaii, Japan, and the countries of Indonesia and Malaysia, which together make up the Malay Archipelago. Archipelagoes provide a unique situation for historians: the presence of significant cultural milestones, such as the development of agriculture and the use of metal tools, can
In their American history, the period between 1787 to 1849 was the beginning of the improvements of the nation. They went to the 13 little colonies to an independent country to a transcontinental country. It wasn’t just overnight a lot had to happen to get where they are today. The upcoming of the United States to a transcontinental nation was due to the fact of economic improvements, war of 1812, and the westward expansion.
During the colonial era, directly after the US Civil War, the European empires were absolute authorities in Southeast Asia. Spanish influence during this time was centralized in the Philippines. The geography of the region rendered the Philippines vulnerable to international manipulation and political dissolution. Because the islands make political unity difficult, they have been targeted by empires, and manipulated oppressive politics. Divisions in the Philippines cross many boundaries. Race, class, religion, and geography all fed into international politics that heavily shaped foreign influence on the island nation.
To justify the case for the annexation of the Philippines, we must first look at a snapshot of the Philippine archipelago to understand the advantages the islands provided the United States. The Philippines was a vast chain consisting of over 7,000 islands, with 74 provinces, 43 different ethnic groups, and 87 different spoken languages. The population around 1899
The Philippines geography includes: 7,107 islands, mountains, rivers, low lands, and a tropical marine climate. In the Philippines, there are plentiful genres of music, for example: tinkling, Christian music, rock, acoustic, and traditional Filipino music. The Philippines is home to over 120,000,000 Filipino citizens. Within the Philippines the industries comprise of manufacturing, fishing, rice, garments, metals, electronics, and shipbuilding. The official dress for the men in the Philippines is a barong (Which I've worn before) and a mestiza for woman. The Philippines is heavily filled with devout Catholics. Like most people from the Philippines, my family is very faith
Nation is a broad term that could mean many things to different people. For instance, some people classify nation as the title that is placed on those that group themselves in this imagined community forged under patriotism. However, other groups of people like Filipinos have a complicated notion of nation. For those Filipinos that came to the United States, they do not know where “home” or “nation” is. To give a bit of background on the complicated understanding of nation for Filipinos it all comes down to their once political standing as a colony of the United States. Many Filipinos grew up with American movies and television shows and with the mentality that they were Filipino Americans. Their English teachers encouraged them to be educated and go to America, yet they never mentioned that once they went to the United States they would be treated as subhuman when they got there. For instance, 'the little brown brothers ' like small children in need of tutalige (Lecture, 9/29/15). Filipina nurses, in particular, struggled to determine whether or not they would return back to the Philippines once they got a taste of what it was like to live the American dream. Filipina nurses faced the struggle of loving the life they lived in American all the while facing exclusions in their work place. Not only did they face certain exclusion by their American counterparts they also endured exclusion from the Philippines. Due to the exclusion they had at work many nurses formed coalitions

People in Papua New Guinea used stone tools in 1960 while in America we were able to shop for groceries and buy metal tools. How did countries like Papua New Guinea become so unequal to other countries such as the Fertile Crescent. Europeans had Fertile Crescent (Eurasia) that let them conquer other cultures and take their supplies. Eurasia had the agriculture, domesticated animals, the immunity for germs and the steel.

“Nutrition is not only a science… it is governance, it is politics. It is finance, it is labor and employment.”
The Philippines, is a group of islands in Southeast Asia, sitting in the western Pacific Ocean. It is known as the Republic of the Philippines, and consists of seven thousand, one hundred, and seven islands, that are geographically split into three main divisions, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The capital is Manila, referred to as the Paris of Asia, and the most populated is Quezon City, which are both part of Metro Manila. The Philippines has a population of close to one hundred,
It has three major island groups which are the Luzon, the largest island and where the capital is located; Visayan, and Mindanao. Eleven islands make up 94 percent of the Philippine landmass, and two of these--Luzon and Mindanao--measure 105,000 and 95,000 square kilometers, respectively. They, together with the cluster of the Visayan Islands that separate them, represent the three principal regions of the archipelago (many scattered islands in a large body of water) that are identified by the three stars on the Philippine flag.
Even though today’s world seems to advance their still seems to be one very serious and large issue, poverty and hunger. This issue is seen in lots of nations across the world, but it’s seen more in third world countries in East Asia, Africa, and South America. After many natural disasters and multiple changes in the form of government the country of the Philippines seems to have a high number of people living in poverty and starvation. Due to the free enterprise market, workers in the Philippines work hard and long hours for very little pay. The number one business in the Philippines is farming, and for this you don’t need to study, which means lots of people drop out of school, a higher education would become better jobs. A stainable solution to end poverty would be to keep a stable government that will help the economy during natural disaster.
