Positive or Negative Leadership example (briefly describe and give relevant page numbers): On page 93 The Chinese are beginning to surround them and Gonzalez sees that a fire team is short a man, quickly he assesses the problem and quickly knelt down into a fire position. Once down he begins to shot at a squad of Chinese soldiers killing one of them, his first kill ever. Staying composed he continued to fight against the Chinese’s. At this time of possible confusion Gonzalez kept his cool and continued to support the troops around him.

However after weighing his options he knew that the ammunitions and other supplies were too important. This however turned out to be the right choice as they were able to gather the needed supplies. Barber here showed off his strong ability to quickly determine if the benefits outweigh the cost.
Positive or Negative Leadership example (briefly describe and give relevant page numbers): Finally on page 244 I saw once again another example of positive leadership. Kurcaba a ww2 veteran shows how experience can help build leadership. Kurcaba was more battle worn than most of the soldiers and due to this was able to keep a calmer head even tell Davis not to worry as there was nothing they could do but put one foot in front of the other.
Briefly define the characteristics of a strong leader based on your reading of this book: Throughout the entirety of The Last Stand of Fox Company, I see that leaders are people who can rise to the occasion when they are needed. Every time someone had to decide on a new plan or attempt to motivate the rest of fox company even though their situation looked dire and bleak someone would try knowing that the remaining lives of Fox Company were in
As an army chaplain, I see leadership as a responsibility that must be upheld regardless of the situation. That means I should be able to demonstrate a good example of a true leader. My name is CH (CPT) Idowu, Oyedeji a C4 student at USACHCS, Fort Jackson, SC. I am writing this paper to share my view on what leadership philosophy should look like.
Leadership can be viewed in many different ways and possess many different qualities. There are courageous leaders, respectful leaders, terrible leaders, and seemingly insignificant leaders but leaders nonetheless. But what is it that differentiates between a strong leader and a weak leader, or a powerful leader and an insignificant one? Is it the qualities in the leader or the decisions they make in key situations that define good leadership qualities? Some would define a good leader by their ability to do the right thing even if it is not the easiest choice. Others might define a good leader as one that possesses great integrity and leads by example. The military possesses many great leaders through a process of development and molding individuals to meet expected leadership qualities like honor, courage, commitment and integrity to accomplish any mission or goal. However, this process doesn’t always create the desired effect. So, let’s examine some good and bad examples of leadership qualities and break down what and how we can emulate them.
This inquiry is set out to define the components that make up an effective leader, whilst taking
Another example of leadership is to deliver the promises you’ve promised. (Post) When Beowulf arrives with the news of relief by eliminating Grendel, he reveals to Hrothgar and the rest that he will take on the monster with his bare hands
Two of the artifacts that I found most intriguing were Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends and Influence People and Zora Neale Hurston’s “How it Feels to be Colored Me.” Not only do both pieces call upon individuals to think beyond their base instincts before action, but they also illustrate leadership by magnanimity and benevolent acknowledgment in trying situations. One of the virtues that Carnegie discusses in gaining influence is allowing the other man to save his face, or to maintain respect and avoid humiliation. In her piece, I believe Hurston, despite describing an emotionally charged situation, did an exceptional job allowing her opponents to save face. By doing so, she exhibited a rare and admirable ideal of leadership as described by Carnegie.
EWhen I was younger I was in the Boy Scouts of America striving for the rank of Eagle Scout I met an Army National Guard Colonel that would set an example of leadership, a bad one. I was a Boy Scout many years but had to limit my attending meetings over the course of my junior year of high school and over the course of my absence a new Scout Master had come to our troop, the aforementioned Colonel. Prior to this man I had the pleasure of knowing several excellent leaders and it was quite the shock to see our once massive troop slowly dwindle.
Looking for ways to improve the outcome of every situation from the smallest detail to the big picture is a way of life for outstanding leaders. They are respected and relied upon. Their past actions, integrity and trustworthiness has earned them the confidence of Officers and fellow Soldiers.
In a 9/11 memorial ,”The guy with the red handkerchief,” turned back through the flames and smoke to help many others escape and died trying to help more. This is an extreme example of taking action because he risked his life to go back and help others escape the 9/11 attack. Another strong example of a leader is the soldier who lost his leg fighting for his country in Afghanistan. In the article, Soldier home after losing his leg in Afghanistan by Gale Fiege, Tristan Segers says,”I didn't do anything special, but if the process I have made motivates another wounded veteran to keep going, then that's great.” This shows that Seekers was taking action because he after losing his leg he kept going and set examples other veterans in people that were wounded and he was taking action even though he had a setback. These two not so famous characters still provide a great example of taking action because they both had some setbacks but they still kept
Another piece of literature that explains leadership in a fantastic way would be the move, We Were Soldiers.¨ There was at least one example of leadership in each clip. Col. Hal Moore was a loving man who had high hopes for his troop. He led his men into war with plans that he spent days on, the thought of his family on his mind, and the goal of returning home soon. Col. Moore left his family in the middle of the night to report to base. This describes leadership more than anything. Family usually means a lot to most people, and Col. Moore sought his troops as his family just as much as his wife and kids. Col. Moores wife stated, ¨… tell the taxi company next time to just bring them to me.¨ She recited this when letters and sad news began to pour in. Passing out the yellow envelopes, not knowing if her husband´s name would be next, demonstrated to the other wife's leadership from home. She stood tall next to the heartbroken ladies and family members as if she wasn't worried at all. Mrs. Moore also lead the army wives group at her house. She gave as much advice and inspired the ladies to keep a positive outlook. It took a lot for Mrs. Moore to stand up and take charge while in the back of her mind she was as lost as the next
The purpose of this paper is to discuss a Legacy Leader from whom I received either negative or positive influence from. For this paper, I have chosen a leader who left a significant negative impact on me, thus providing for me examples of what not to be as a leader. It was at Fort Bragg, North Carolina that I came face to face with one of the worst examples of leadership and negative role models I have encountered in my 14+ year Army career. The impact and impressions that MSG Smith left on me have been burned in my memory ever since. I was shown an example of how not to conduct myself when in positions of authority over others. As in all experiences, I truly believe that there is
soldiers is a tragic example of how, if that leadership is lacking, awful things can
I think a leader is a person who can stand up for what they believe in. They don’t give up. If someone or something discourages they they will take a stand. Or if his/her friends, acquaintances, or anyone in general, they will take a stand in what they believe in. They don’t call people names or betray them behind their backs, they try to stop that. Leaders try their best. They believe everyone can do anything if they at least try. When a leader gets a chance to do good, they will.
The purpose of this essay is to identify what happened when my ODA worked for a toxic company commander in Afghanistan. I will compare and contrast the differences between good leaders vs. toxic leaders, how toxic leaders develop, and share personal experiences on how our ODA dealt with our company commander. Leadership style is the pattern of behavior used by a leader as recognized by those who are led. Good leaders add value, impart energy and maximize potential. However, some leaders, by virtue of their personality and style consume unit energy. Even high performing organizations can be “run into the ground.” Toxic leaders have a style that is so destructive that they not only do not add value, they are a detriment to their organizations.
As an example scenario of the value of leadership, imagine, if you will, a large catamaran which has recently struck an iceberg at sea. In the
Stories of leadership often fail to fully capture what the person behind the position goes through as he or she tries to institute changes in the organization. Many leadership stories tend to gloss over personal difficulties and highlight only those that make the leader appear bigger and brighter. What these stories fail to recognize is that there is much to learn from the struggles that come before the victory.
