Robben Island Prisoner Nelson Mandela Robben Island, the infamous prison said to have had kept over 3,000 political prisoners. Among these prisoners there is one man, one famous political activist known as Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela and many other political activist fought for the same thing, ending Apartheid. A system of racial segregation known as Apartheid was in effect from 1948 - 1994 in which only 20% of the South African population was in control. This certainly was not right, to be treated as a lower class person because of the color of your skin, and even your religion. It was time to end it, the road was rough but with an army of 3.5 million Nelson Mandela was finally able to establish a multiracial type government. In 1952
Mandela was a very important leader in the struggle against apartheid. Like many other struggle leaders, he was thrown in jail more than once and spent 27 years of his life in jail. He became an important symbol for human rights and anti-apartheid campaigns all over the world. In 1990 he was finally released from jail, and he became an important leader in the talks with President F.W. de Klerk about a South Africa free from apartheid.

Nelson Mandela was in activist for the civil right movement. I chose him because he is very famous throughout the world and I had done research about him in the past. I also, wanted to know more about him and the reason why he spend so much time in prison. How was his spirit still not broken?Later on, I find out that he was sent to jail because he stood up against a government that was committing an egregious human rights abuses against blacks and South Africans. So I also wanted to know why the people liked him so much in South Africa? People loved him so much because he was giving peaceful speeches and non-violence marches that was giving the people hope.
David Icke once said “The human race is a herd. Here we are, unique, eternal aspects of consciousness with an infinity of potential” Several things have had significant meanings in my life. “In my country we go to prison first and then become President.” In 1991, Nelson Mandela was elected the president of the African National Congress. After President F.W. de Klerk released him from jail, Mandela continued to negotiate the country’s first non-racial elections for him. It began on December 21, 1991 at the World Trade Centre in Johannesburg. White South Africans were willing to share power but many black South Africans wanted a complete transfer of power as whites had before. These negotiations were tense and violence across South African townships erupted followed by the assassination of ANC and South African Communist Party leader Chris Hani on April 10, 1993. In 1993, Mandela and President de Klerk were awarded the Nobel

Nelson Mandela, one of if not the most influential and peaceful people to have ever walked the earth. Good morning Mrs Green and my fellow nudgee students, today I am going to tell you about Nelson Mandela. Firstly Nelson Mandela had an extraordinary life with many ups and downs. Nelson was also a pacifist and throughout his life had to deal with much conflict because of this. Finally Nelson mandela showed many principles of human dignity and was a strong promoter of peace, you could even regard him as a role model for Christians.
Mandela was unaware that he had become one of the world's most quoted public figures. But in apartheid- ruled South Africa his words and teachings, as well as other ANC activists - were banned. There were consequences that came with heavy penalties for those who broke them. Even carrying the image of Mandela or being overheard saying his name could result in torture and a prison sentence.
One large problem that occurred because of apartheid and was the cause of many protests was from 1961-1994, 3.5 million colored people and their families were forced out of their homes while their property was sold for very low prices to white farmers. This was just one example of events that were completely unfair to the colored population. Nelson Mandela was the person who stopped these acts from happening. In 1994, Mandela became the country’s first colored president. Instead of trying to make the people who put him into jail for 27 years suffer in consequences, he embraced them and used peace to unite everyone as equals, and not oppressing the people who had oppressed him for most of his life. Apartheid was a very rough time for anyone who lived in South Africa before Nelson Mandela and his peace helped to stop it.
Nelson Mandela was the man who abolished Apartheid, freeing South Africa from the binds of racial segregation forever. However, it was not an easy road and Mandela needed patience, strength of character, focus, passion, understanding, perseverance, and most importantly, forgiveness, to achieve this. For more than forty years, black South Africans were subject to the harsh racial segregation of the Apartheid system; despite making up over 70% of South Africa’s population, they had little to no rights.
Nelson Mandela was involved with leading the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa and joined forces with the African National Congress in 1942 working towards a democratic government. For 20 years he led a campaign for equality to promote non-violence, anti- racism and peace for the people against the South African
I have always thought that Nelson Mandela has been one of the most important people in history. I find it very fascinating that one man could end the Apartheid and that is why I want to find out more about this. South Africa is a country with a past of enforced racism and separation of its multi-racial community. The White Europeans invaded South Africa and started a political system known as 'Apartheid' (meaning 'apartness'). This system severely restricted the rights and lifestyle of the non-White inhabitants of the country forcing them to live separately from the White Europeans. I have chosen to investigate how the Apartheid affected people’s lives, and also how and why the Apartheid system rose and fell in South Africa.
