New Jersey Obstacles

Most everyone has to overcome some type of adversity in their life. Some things are harder to overcome than others, but it’ll always be worth it in the end. These past few years I have been facing the challenge of a life time.

Some obstacles I had to overcome were mentally challenging situations. I always had people saying I couldn’t do it because it’s too hard to get into, especially for younger people, as me being 25. Another mental challenge is that it’s all on me, if I mess up I can’t blame no one else but myself. Odysseus had a challenge of this because he led his men on this journey as said in book. They trusted him, like my horse trusts me. We both had a lot of mental pressure from this and neither of us could mess up.

Having an obstacle to overcome will happen at least one time in everyone's life. The obstacles may be small, large, mental, or physical, but if you find the right people to stick with you through it, you can overcome anything. That’s what was going through my mind when I read an inspiring article about a young man named Tim Harris.

My biggest obstacle was August 1, 2005 when our apartment building caught fire. My Mother, Brother, Sister, and I were home, it was the most distressing thing I've ever had to encounter. There are many things that can hold people back from goals that they are determined to accomplish. Despite these hardships and dilemmas that we face, if we have fight in us and the correct work ethic we are bound to succeed. I personally have faced my share of obstacles in my life and have been through plenty of hardships. However, I always overcome them in one way or another. For example, when I first walked the halls of Harlingen High School I entered as a shy but ambitions freshman with a lot of friends and unfortunately a lot of enemies. Israel, a country slightly smaller than the U.S. state of New Jersey, is located in the Middle East. It borders the Mediterranean Sea for a length of 168 miles. In the south and southwest, it borders the Gulf of Aqaba and the Sinai Peninsula. Israel occupied the Sinai Peninsula during the war of June 1967 and returned it to Egypt in April 1982. To the east, it shares a 147-mile borderline with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and 189 miles with the Palestinian Autonomous Area on the western shore of the Jordan River. In the north, Israel shares 49 miles of borders with Lebanon, and with Syria for 47 miles on the disputed Golan Heights.

Obstacles, in life you will face them more than once or twice. Some perceive obstacles as an inconvenience keeping them away from their goal. However, keeping a positive mindset towards any obstacle you face will help you become a strong person. I had viewed obstacles as negatives during a difficult ski race, only to later realize that they had made me into a stronger person.

The number one obstacle that I’ve had to overcome is my mother getting arrested during the end of my sophomore year. One of the biggest obstacles I have had to overcome is the mental disorders I have. When I was 7 years old, I was diagnosed with ADHD. I struggled to keep up with my peers in school at times it caused negative effects on my grades. I had trouble with comprehending some topics and sometimes caused disruptions due to my lack of focus. My ADHD caused me to learn how to work harder to accomplish my goals and succeed in school. I was able overcome the obstacle my ADHD created and was able to go from a struggling C-Average student to graduating High School with honors.

Overcoming an obstacle of any kind can be challenging. The biggest obstacle I have overcome is having a child at the age of 17. Having children can be difficult, especially at a young age. Education has always been important to me and I was unsure how I was going to be able to finish high school, much less go to college, while having a baby. To overcome this obstacle in my life, I focused on the determination I had to provide a good life for my child.

People are faced with obstacles on a daily basis, but it is how a person deals with the obstacle that really reveals their true character. I personally believe that obstacles are present in order to demonstrate how much one really desires to achieve a particular goal. While growing up, I was a stereotypical awkward “pre-teen” that grew too fast for his age: I was not fast enough for basketball, not coordinated enough for baseball, and definitely not nimble enough for soccer. It was here in middle school when I was faced with obstacles, but it is how I dealt with these obstacles that taught me many lessons and turned me into the person I am today.

My biggest obstacle in my life was my weight. I was not going to let it defeat me as I was going to defeat it. Through hard work and dedication I was going to lose weight. This act helped me prepare for life situations and never back down from any task.

I always keep in mind the obstacles I face to ensure myself that I have the ability to surpass through any problems I may face. Last fall I was attending Niles West High School and I had faced the biggest tragedy I’ve ever experienced. It was senior night and my last time playing football on the Niles West field. My parents weren’t able to make it last minute due to an emergency. I was really worried and kept thinking something bad had happened. My heart was beating faster than I’ve ever imagined, it felt like my heart was going to explode. My teammates told me not to worry about it and to focus on the game. I prayed to god hoping everything was okay. With this on my mind I had to get ready for the toughest night of my life. Our coaches have been preparing the team for this game for a long time. We were playing our toughest opponents yet, Maine South. Our team hasn’t
