What is your story? What kind of challenges did you overcome? There are things that happened to me that not many people really know about, I was abused by my older sister when I was a young child. But that didn’t make me a bad person, it made me a better one. I treat people with respect and kindness, I help my family with the things they need, and I take care of my brother. I still always make time for myself, to draw, to write, for anything really. But I wouldn’t be the same person I am today if these things didn’t happen.
Overcoming adversity says a lot about a person. The adversity in life I have had to personally overcome is a birth defect. I was born with a cleft lip which has caused me to have five procedures from the ages of three months to sixteen years old. Not a day goes by where I’m not reminded of the challenges I’ve had to overcome, because every time there is a mirror, I’m reminded by a scar upon my face.

I have had to face many obstacles in my life. I have learned that every obstacle can either make you stronger or brake you. If overcoming the obstacle were easy, everyone would do it quickly and without any difficulties. It is the joy of overcoming the obstacles that makes everything so much worth it. In my case every obstacle has had a purpose. Three unforgettable obstacles that I have overcome are my childhood, an abusive domestic violent relationship, and jail time.
A time I had to overcome adversity in my life was when I became injured during the middle of cheer tryouts. At the time I was very passionate about competitive cheer, and my goal was to make the junior five team. When I got to tryouts everyone was tumbling, stunting and doing the dance routine. My adrenaline was pumping as I went to warm up my tumbling and throw a roundoff, back handspring, layout. I was determined to accomplish this for tryouts and impress my coach, but I was still very nervous. As I was running into the roundoff back handspring, I knew something was bound to go wrong. The next thing I knew I was in the middle of the air and suddenly landed on my knees, with my ankle twisted under me. My face got bright
Having an obstacle to overcome will happen at least one time in everyone's life. The obstacles may be small, large, mental, or physical, but if you find the right people to stick with you through it, you can overcome anything. My biggest obstacle was August 1, 2005 when our apartment building caught fire. My Mother, Brother, Sister, and I were home, it was the most distressing thing I've ever had to encounter. The night of my Aunt's birthday a fire started and the smoke made me feel as if I was drowning. My cousin Kendrick Weber woke me up, because I wasn't waking up when my sister tried. He pulled me out through the window and my forehead
One of the greatest challenges I had to face was my transition from Haiti to the United States. During that transition, I was faced with a lot of adversity. It varied from fitting in, academic struggles and remaining focus. Throughout all the trials and tribulations that came with it, I was able to be resilient. In my own words, to be resilient is to allow challenges to impact me in a positive way where at the end I can say I am an overcomer.

In my life, I have faced many obstacles and have had to rise above those obstacles. The one that was the hardest for me is when I had to transfer from Believers Fellowship Academy the school was almost ready to shut down and was struggling to survive and didn’t make it one. I had to transfer to Sturgis Brown High School. When I went to talk to the counselor with my mother I found out that I would have to take a test for every class that was a requirement freshman year. To go into the year that I was supposed to go into which was my sophomore year I would have to either retake those classes, take these test, or enter into a brand new school where I knew about three people as a freshman. I was already old for my class age if I went into a sophomore
