New York, New York. With the exception of Ted Cruz, everyone loves New York. Among its wonders, New York state contains New York City, the most populous city in the U.S. New York is also known for its beautiful lakes and mountains, a great wine growing region, and lots of farms. New York City has the largest concentration of billionaires anywhere on the globe, the financial heart of the world known as Wall Street, and is the ultimate destination for every wannabe taxi cab driver in the world.
New York, however, also contains some of the strangest laws on the books today. From throwing a ball at someone’s head to jumping off a building to going topless, New York has it covered.
Wearing a mask – It’s hard to believe, but in 1845, much of what is present-day New York City, was still farmland. To respond to the lowering of wheat prices, tenant farmers started dressing up as Indians and, covering their faces with masks. In their anonymity, they began to attack the police. That was when the New York City council made it illegal for two or more people to congregate while wearing face coverings that disguised their identities. There are, of course, exceptions to the law addressing. Those exceptions are Halloween, masquerade parties, and politicians who never show their real faces until they’ve been elected.

In Five Points, where most of New York City’s crime started, it also started some of history’s most notorious gangs, and mobsters.

New York City is the largest and one of the oldest cities in the United States, having been 'rediscovered' by Henry Hudson in 1609 while working for the Dutch East Indies Company. New Amsterdam, as it was then known, was settled in 1614 by Dutch fur traders and became the most important port in America. (Reed, 2011) The two rivers flowing on each side of Manhattan grant easy access to the ocean, and Henry Hudson remarked that the harbor was the best natural harbor he had ever seen in the world. Today, New York City is the most populated city in the United States. New York City, NYC, is made up of five boroughs including Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island. Ellis Island, the first immigration station, and the statue of liberty are both located in New York. Immigrants went for more freedom in the 1800s and for economic and other opportunities back then and even now. Since NYC is such a large city, there are more job opportunities which draws people to the city. Also, there are an abundance of attractions and much more cultural diversity. All of these factors contribute to the reason the population is a whopping 8.538 million people!
New York State has an amazing history. It was generally named after the English Duke of York who later became King James II of England. This was how New York State gained the nickname "Empire State” which stemmed from George Washington. This was a man that foreseen the notion that New York would become the seat of a new nation and empire. New York State is located in the northeastern part of the United States. Its northern border is Canada and The Saint Lawrence River. New York's eastern borders are Vermont, Connecticut and Massachusetts. New Jersey and Pennsylvania is the southern border. Its western border is not necessarily land but bodies of water which consists of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. New York's land regions are the Appalachians and the Central Plains.

I was born in Bronx New York, and moved when I was just about to start Kindergarten. I had a lot of family who still lived in the Bronx so I would spend a tremendous amount of time visiting my cousins. I guess you could say I was basically raised in the Bronx. As a child growing into my teen years I would hangout in the school playgrounds to play Basketball with my cousins and who ever wanted to play ball. I have always wanted to visit the place of tall buildings, history, and where culture is intertwined with its people. I have wanted to live the fast pace life of a New Yorker, where I could stand outside and see, smell, and taste all of the experiences that this city has to offer. When you mention New York to anyone, they automatically think about Times Square. This beautiful place with skyscrapers, Central Park, and a unique transportation system. However, if you were to ask me what I think about New York; I believe the skyscrapers block the sun, Central park is just a regular park for dogs, and the subway trains rarely run consistently especially in the mornings. I have lived in New York for 18 years, and I have yet to understand what everyone likes about the “ Big Red Apple.”
