Manhattan is my hometown, which is the main and part of five boroughs of New York City. Furthermore, it is the most populous city in the United States, being the premier gateway of all legal immigration into the country.

New York City’s old slum neighbourhood, the Five Points, was notoriously known for its vice and crimes. The first organized crime group in New York City was the Forty Thieves which was led by Edward Coleman, started in 1825, in the back of a grocery store. The Dead Rabbits were an Irish gang in the Five Points area, and are most known for the riot they caused in 1857. The Eastman Gang were a Jewish group in the Five Points area, which began in the late nineteenth century, and were the rival of the Five Points Gang. The Five Points Gang was another group, started by Paul Kelly and included future famous mobsters. In Five Points, where most of New York City’s crime started, it also started some of history’s most notorious gangs, and mobsters.

The state of New York as a whole is truly an incredibly beautiful state. It started to be inhabited by the British (now Americans) around 1664 and started to gain prominence in the 18th century according to wikipedia.The reason why New York started to gain prominence in the 18th century is because of the vital role in the American Revolution, The Battle of Saratoga was the major turning point in the American Revolution for America. Almost all of the American people’s hope came from the French which was there newly formed allie and struck up a new type of hope for the people of the 13 colonies. New York City is the largest and one of the oldest cities in the United States, having been 'rediscovered' by Henry Hudson in 1609 while working for the Dutch East Indies Company. New Amsterdam, as it was then known, was settled in 1614 by Dutch fur traders and became the most important port in America. (Reed, 2011) The two rivers flowing on each side of Manhattan grant easy access to the ocean, and Henry Hudson remarked that the harbor was the best natural harbor he had ever seen in the world. For hundreds of years the city has been at the epicenter of world trade, and immigration to the new world. Millions of immigrants have filled the streets of New York, from Europe, Africa, South America, Asia, and elsewhere.

New york is realy big city. Everybody imagine to live or visit there. That is the dream city.

Today, New York City is the most populated city in the United States. New York City, NYC, is made up of five boroughs including Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island. Ellis Island, the first immigration station, and the statue of liberty are both located in New York. Immigrants went for more freedom in the 1800s and for economic and other opportunities back then and even now. Since NYC is such a large city, there are more job opportunities which draws people to the city. Also, there are an abundance of attractions and much more cultural diversity. All of these factors contribute to the reason the population is a whopping 8.538 million people!

New York State has an amazing history. It was generally named after the English Duke of York who later became King James II of England. This was how New York State gained the nickname "Empire State” which stemmed from George Washington. This was a man that foreseen the notion that New York would become the seat of a new nation and empire. New York State is located in the northeastern part of the United States. Its northern border is Canada and The Saint Lawrence River. New York's eastern borders are Vermont, Connecticut and Massachusetts. New Jersey and Pennsylvania is the southern border. Its western border is not necessarily land but bodies of water which consists of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. New York's land regions are the Appalachians and the Central Plains.

New Rochelle is a city in Westchester County, outside Of New York City. Housing an approximate 77,062 people, this city is home to a diverse population of residents. The majority of this community is currently 50% White; however, the community is well blended due to the presence of Hispanics/ Latinos making up more than 20% of New Rochelle. Blacks or African Americans makeup an approximate 15% within the population. The male population of New Rochelle consists of a total 36,980, whereas the female population stands at 40,082, taking majority. I was born in Bronx New York, and moved when I was just about to start Kindergarten. I had a lot of family who still lived in the Bronx so I would spend a tremendous amount of time visiting my cousins. I guess you could say I was basically raised in the Bronx. As a child growing into my teen years I would hangout in the school playgrounds to play Basketball with my cousins and who ever wanted to play ball. When you mention New York to anyone, they automatically think about Times Square. This beautiful place with skyscrapers, Central Park, and a unique transportation system. However, if you were to ask me what I think about New York; I believe the skyscrapers block the sun, Central park is just a regular park for dogs, and the subway trains rarely run consistently especially in the mornings.
