New York was a sensitive location for Bruce. With it essentially being the epicenter of all world threats, he’s surprised the city hadn’t fallen yet to superhero warfare. Careful to keep away from Harlem, his return to the Big Apple bought back more memories than he cared to remember. Both good and bad. New York was his equivalent of electric charge where no matter the amount of force he tried to repel against it, its positive charge always attracted him back. It wasn’t New York personally that he found exasperating, although its near 9 million population definitely a major turn off, it was the misfortune of its ground zero’s tendencies that worried Bruce. He had come far in his strained relationship with the Hulk, but enough to trust him not to explode every time someone got murdered or mugged? No, thank you. The city had enough headaches without his other side trying to play vigilante. But against his better judgement, which warned him to stay out of the busiest corner in the city, Bruce went anyway; always the expert in poor decision making. Since his time in third world countries, he’s forgotten how bright the world actually was. When you’re used to diseased stricken populace and shacks created from garbage, its cultural shock to see a McDonalds on every street. And it shouldn’t have agitated Bruce as he walked among a pile of warm bodies pressed against him. He knew the hazards of the city, with its criminals and overexertion of superheroes. He knew he put not only
Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson today proclaimed that a Flatbush teenager has been prosecuted for murder and affiliated charges coming from the lethal shooting of a 38 year old father who was trying to retrieve his son's baseball cap supposedly stolen a few days prior to the shooting.
Batman is more of a vigilante than a hero because he has the ability to stop crime but doesn’t. He goes about “protecting” the city
It is in The Pit that we see Bruce rise from the darkness from where he has been sent as a crippled, lost man & return as a courageous, strong warrior. As Alfred quotes during the film “But sometimes, a man rises from the darkness. Sometimes…the pit sends something back.” This is a key quote in the film as it foreshadows Bruce’s exile, but also his return to & from The Pit. Whilst he was imprisoned in the pit Bruce faced many challenges, both physically & mentally. His body was broken & destroyed by the man he was trying to defeat. His courage was also shattered by Bane & his confidence was amiss. It seemed like he had been cast into the abyss of The Pit forever, sent there to live out his life & wait for death to greet him. This seemed like the only future for Bruce, until he views a news bulletin from Gotham, which showed Bane taking over the city. Bruce has now discovered the will to live & his motivation again. But he was missing something, the fear that every man & woman must have. The fear of death. As the blind prisoner explains to Bruce “How can you move faster than possible? Fight longer than possible? If not from the most powerful impulse of the spirit. The fear of death. The will to survive.” Bruce now realises that he needs to make the climb out of the pit,
altered genes. He had just started to regain composure over his life when he learned that Rebecca was with child (Yarish). This was the not good news and the beginning of Bruce’s tragedy. This could also be listed as a source of Bruce’s future afflictions by showing he was directly influenced by someone with a mental disorder.
His wealthy parents become the victim of a mugging by a street thug that results in the murder which Bruce witnesses, and as a result, he is tormented by an enormous sense of guilt and responsibility for their deaths. Byronic heroic nature can be seen in this incident. This guilt is obviously implausible because of Bruce 's young age and inability to intercede as well as the random violence of the act itself. It is this horror that occurs in his life while he is young that hampers him from developing the relationship with his people in the society. Gothic Literature has influenced Batman as a Byronic hero during contemporary times. He is revered as an iconic role model for the male gender, an extraordinary symbol of the American dream, and a beacon of hope for the horrific events in a terrorist society.
To illustrate, while walking home from a cinema, Bruce Wayne’s mother and father, Martha and Thomas, walked into the infamous “crime alley.” There, an unknown robber shot and killed both of them. Bruce swore to avenge his parent’s death. Soon after, a friend of Martha and Thomas Wayne, Dr. Leslie Thompkins, along with the Wayne family’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth, made out a plan for Bruce where he would not have to be taken by Gotham’s Social Services. Instead, the two helped young Bruce realize his destiny in becoming one of Gotham’s finest heroes.
Gotham is a city struggling with city wide corruption. The cops and city hall are both in the pockets of the Falcon family. The city is overrun by crime. There are more cities like this in America then most would think. Gotham is based off of the city of New york at night but, metropolis the city of Superman is New york during the day. Superman does not hide who he is and abides by a strict moral code. So he is seen as a white knight a hero of the day. Batman hides who he is and only follows one rule no killing. So he is the Dark Knight he hides in the shadows.
The incidence Bruce Wayne must confront is his parent’s death and how he can be an expander and point to corrupt cops that are prevalent in the Gotham Police Department or a container that says its more about guns and drugs. However, as Bruce develops his body and mind through training with the League of Shadows he decides that being either an expander or a container doesn’t fix the immediate issues and is why his vigilante stance goes above the law. This view is exemplified in a final part of his training he asked to execute a prisoner without first evaluating the evidence and data
Bruce Wayne was only but a child when he watched helplessly as his parents were gunned down in front of him during a mugging in Gotham City. This crime would come to define his life. To the public, he would excel and succeed his father and become the heir and millionaire of the Wayne corporation. In secret, he would dedicate himself to becoming one of the world’s greatest weapons against crime—the Batman.
Held any tighter, their souls would’ve been inseparable, clinging onto its other half until the two became one. And perhaps there had been no better analogy that described the relationship they shared than one soul in two bodies. One complimenting the other in times of weakness and in times of strengths. Once inside that beautiful fortress she shared, Betty could not imagined a safer place. A place that offered as much protection and love than Bruce did. Days of youth musing inside her mind, when they danced to a silent tempo no one else could hear. The laboratory and its research a world that perfectly harmonized their duet and refined it to a masterpiece. Science may have connected the two, even the reason for their meeting, but star-crossed-loves
Every scene that takes place in public is wrapped in the buzz and bustle of the city. The main characters are not unrealistically removed or isolated from the world at large. The characters, including the superhero, do not forget about or ignore the people; they are real and present, permeating the entire movie with the same kind of presence that real people hold in a city. In addition to mass-murdering psychopaths, Gotham City has petty criminals--a detail that some superhero fiction forgets or dismisses too easily. Every time Batman or Harvey Dent does something notable in public, there are reporters and crowds of people scrambling for attention in the incident’s wake.
Many of us consider Batman the emotionless dark knight, the one who fights crime under the cover of darkness, the one superhero to uses a fear factor to play in his role. What most people don’t see is his everything good that he stands for. As a child, Thomas and Martha Wayne were murdered during a mugging, right beside Bruce. Bruce was spared and the complications of that night would reach down, deep into his core lasting with him forever. Bruce uses this internal struggle as a way only to make him stronger and in that moment he instantly becomes the symbol to all of mankind as the growth of strength in the face of tragedy and despair. Throughout Batmans career, he fails on multiple occasion being beaten down mentally, emotionally, physically
Bruce’s physique does not accurately compliment his other half, but rather reflects the perfect portrayal of a dork. If not for the emerald berserker unleashed by rage, you’d have a tragic time believing the walking sack of bones has an anger problem. The definition of a textbook weakling, Bruce has a frail and lanky built, even leaner from his previous years of malnutrition and constant drifting. Without any muscle definition, his 5’10 height appears to be towering – nothing more than a rail.
Behind his dorky fluff, Bruce is a walking laundry-list of complications. Mostly brought on by himself. A wallflower most of his life, many have had an encounter or two with Bruce and never remember it, his reserve nature spent on avoiding confrontation and conversation. Albeit, a difficult man to know, the introvert is more than his title suggest, awkward to a fault, but surprisingly impolite and quick to sarcasm. His humor a dry one, it’s quite dark when it’s aimed at himself. Vulnerable to depression, there can be a lot said about Bruce’s angst - failed suicide attempts just a tip of the iceberg. Yes, while gruff, sour, and constantly fighting an inner turmoil, one does not always see it. His demons visible only to those close to him.
Superheroes are thought to have powers that make them immortal to others, Batman is unique, Bruce Wayne is mortal and has no superpowers.
