Nicki Minaj is a rapper/singer who was introduced to Lil Wayne who then launched her career. Her real name is Onika Tanya Maraj and she was born in Trinidad and Tobago. She moved to Queens, NY with her family when she was five. Her father was a violent drug addict and at one point attempted to kill her mother by burning the family home down. Nicki Minaj always had a female empowerment in her mind because she always wanted her mother to be stronger. This is why the majority of her songs refer to women empowerment. I enjoy listening to a wide variety of music and songs that are empowering are my favorite because I’m always trying to motivate and encourage myself. It is is very important to be motivated and to be the best that you can be. “I came to win, to fight, to conquer, to thrive\ I came to win, to survive, to prosper, to rise\ To fly” (Minaj,“Fly”). is the chorus of Nicki Minaj’s song “Fly” and these lyrics are very motivational and thinking about these lyrics can bring anyone back up to their feet. Nicki Minaj is simply stating encouraging and motivating words to show what she is about and also to show how powerful she is. This relates to her because she had to work hard to become a famous singer/rapper, it didn’t happen overnight. But she worked hard and now she’s famous and successful. I relate to this because I’ve always believed in working hard so that I can be successful. I am trying my best to keep good grades, I’m also volunteering at the Florida hospital, and I job shadow for a doctor, while still keeping up with my dance life.
