From an almost non-English writer until a writer of opinion paragraph.
I started the Writing I class with high expectative for improve my English and, of course, my writing, since last English class, the basic class, we, students, do not write a lot. The first classes were easier than the last ones, with simple sentences and text, which I read with attention. The unit about planning was the most helpful; although I already knew the steps of planning, I didn’t used with frequency. Usually, the words just flow from my mind to the paper, but the planning helps when I have to write a paragraph or text whose theme is difficult for me. The peer editing was helpful too, but the most difficult to do, because force me to study and look for grammar
A good writer is someone who knows how to write well, have ideas to put on paper and write a well-organized essay that answers the question that a professor gives to you. I identify my own writing by not being good because I have issues sometimes getting words on paper, organizing the essay and my grammar is not very well. The methods that are effective for improving my own writing is practice writing and have someone proof read my work. I am in COM100L because my grammar is not good and my writing on paper is all over the place. My expectation for this course is to improve my grammar when I write essays and fix my mistakes when I write.
Well trying to learn in my English class it was very hard for me because I did not understand the way in which the teacher is teaching because it did not appeal to my learning style, which I figured out while doing our second paper. The way I figured out that help was needed by only my second paper was when going over the paper and seeing what were the problems with the paper I still was not able to correct what I was doing. Overcoming this was particularly difficult because when coming to the teacher for help I still was unable to grasp the learning. This is when I turned to peer for help which helped me tremendously while in this class, as well as, visiting the AAC on campus where someone sit down with you and go through and help you improve your writing techniques and skills that what helped me achieve a passable
I immensely struggled when writing. Taking my scrambled thoughts and uncoordinated analysis and converting it into clean and understandable words on a page was arduous. I could not express my thoughts in proper academic format. I understood the importance of writing to every subject. It was essential that I learn to condense my ideas and feeling into coherent written word. After much debate, I decided that the best way to improve my writing skills was to take an advanced English course.
From elementary school to high school, I was taught that my writing had to be structured and follow strict criteria. After I arrived in Mr. Mukherjee’s ENG 102 class, I was given the opportunity to express my creative freedom through words and graphical pictures. It can often be difficult and challenging to improve upon my own writing abilities unless motived with an idea in mind. When looking back on my time at ASU, I thought about the goals that I wanted to address for myself and the course goals that my instructor had set for the class. These goals include ones that I had accomplished to the best of my ability and ones that I need to address as well as improve.
In my second block Accelerated English class, I believe that I deserve at least a B based on my behavior, attendance, and participation. I would like to have faith in the idea that my behavior is pleasing and acceptable. For example, I have never gotten a referral both in English class and in school in general. Although I shout out sometimes, I try my best to not let this happen. I have to admit that my attendance isn't the finest, however I attempt to only miss school if I am sick, and if I am sick and/or absent, I make up my work as quick as I can. Finally, I conclude that my participation is superb. I always complete my work and I strive to do everything I can to secure an excellent grade in English. Therefore, based on my behavior, attendance, and participation in English class, I deserve at least a B.
Starting my ENG101 class, I felt like it was the basics of learning grammar and English material from high school. However, I quickly learned that I needed to brush-up on some of my writing skills. I acquired skills of the past, as well as some new ones. Writing may still be slightly confusing to me when using correct punctuation, run-on sentences, and organizing my thoughts. Learning to use an outline, create a topic to answer questions, and brainstorming has taught me to become a better writer.
My vocabulary has improved due to the many words we have learned in English II and I have learned that in order to create the perfect paper, you must have many rough drafts. One of my strengths as a writer has been my editing, which helps me fix the fluidity (one of my weaknesses) of the paper. Another weakness in my writing is not brainstorming before I write. In most instances I am able to start a paper right away but then get stuck after the first or second body paragraph. However, I often fix these mistakes by having multiple peers and mentors read over my drafts. By adding this step to the process of my writing, I am able to produce a stronger paper. My goal in writing for the next year is to improve upon the structure and format of my paper. This could be easily accomplished by learning how to write SCQuIRT paragraph. In the future I hope to be able to build upon my skills as a
This course offers numerous opportunities to improve our writing. In this class, I not only enhanced the skills I already had, but also learned new writing concepts. Before I took this class, I knew that my writing is poor, and I have always wanted to improve it; however, I did not know how and what aspects of writing to improve. So, I came into this class with the ambition to improve my writing, and I have accomplished my goal although there is still room for improvement. At this point of this course, I have learned the elements that successful writing is composed of, and I am now able to categorize the various techniques that can work together to define strong
January of 2017 I started taking an English Comp II class. I was very hesitant about it because I knew I wasn't so good in writing. Coming into the class with a little bit of knowledge was good but I still am not a good writer or where I should be at this point. All the assignments the teacher give is kind of complicated for me because i just can’t come up with ideas to help me start and get through my paper. I wish i could focus better and be able to write papers.
I’m a young woman who transferred from China to America and I’m not that familiar with how to utilize English compared to a young woman who’s who is from the United States of America. That has never stopped me from trying and I will never give up. I like challenges and difficult tasks, it tests my will and helps to achieve the goal I have set for myself. During this sixteenth week, my writing skill improved dramatically compared to the beginning of the semester. That may not be noticeable to others, but to me the improvement in my writing skill is very evident.
When I first came this classroom, my basic writing was a way lower than I thought, because my writing was a kind of messy due to the missing of strong vocabulary words in my sentences, transitional word to tie up my sentences and how to use quotation more efficiently in my writing and to summarize someone else thought. In fact, a major part of those problems was related to my brainstorming because I was always doing a free writing, instead of organizing my thoughts or ideas after the brainstorming. Even though I was a poor, I learn the concept of organization and sentence structure, the way of summarizing and quoting, and to write the comparison and contrast essay.
The different way of writing in this course is that Becky gives us chance to revise the paper. I wrote some paper in other courses. I found this is the only course that the teacher will remark the papers depend on the revised version. Another difference is no word limit for our papers. I remember before we wrote the first paper, some student asked Becky how many words the paper should at least have. When Becky said no limit, we all surprised. As I wrote in my second paper, schooling need freedom. No word limit makes me focus more on the matter rather than how long the paper should be. I really like the way Becky give students feedbacks for papers. It clearly shows the weakest part of my writing is organization. I cannot organized my paper very well. When I wrote the initial paper, I did not pay attention on organization. I just write what I thought and put them together. After I read the feedback from Becky, I can organized more clearly. I read my paper again and I realized there are some points not related to the main idea of my paper. I learned how to make the paper logical—write more details and explain them deeply. So that I can get stronger evidence to support my viewpoint. By modifying my papers, I know too much ideas will make readers confused. I need focus on the main point and write more examples related to the thesis. Writing makes thinking visible. As the picture shown before, people always
In high school, I learned a lot of different things about grammar and little bit about writing a paragraph. In the class, it was getting the hard word and the class that I did not understand the story. I get the book to read and have to write about it. I was not to get what to write and not understanding the book. Other, I was starting to put more effort than other by going to after school and talking to the teacher. As after school, I meet the teacher and talk about the story and word that I don’t understand. Also, the teacher helps me to write an essay about the story. More often, I get to know about grammar, when we write when to put the comma and how to break down the run on
Over the course of this past semester, my ability to write has improved tremendously. Prior to undertaking this course, my expertise in writing was not as fine-tuned as it should have been. I had never previously been enrolled in a class specifically tailored to writing-- which was quite clear. Upon reading my past works, it becomes apparent that my writing style consisted of fluff, small words, and inconsistently structured sentences. These problems have, for the most part, been remedied with the coursework I have tackled in College Writing. Rather than long, drawn out papers that take an eternity to reach the primary point, my recent work is much nicer in terms of composition and grammar. I credit these improvements to the three primary
I believe I have achieved most of the course learning objectives as I pass this class with a c or higher. I undertook the writing process we learned in class and it has helped me become a better writer. Before I entered my freshman year of college I didn’t know how to write. But as I undertook the writing process I was taught in class I now know how to write. First when it came to writing my assignment papers for my class I grabbed a notebook and did prewriting . I brainstormed a list of ideas for my papers. I then had a plan on everything I was going to write about. I then sit down and write my first draft. I make sure my first paragraph is a strong
