Scenario 1 -
A grandparent comes to you and asks you for a recommendation for a processor in a new computer. They explain that they are only going to use it to post pictures, view social media, and surf the web. Which processor do you recommend and why? Explain your answer. Use references to your spreadsheet.
I would recommend AMD Sempron 2650, its got 2 cores which is enough to run basic applications such as web browsing. It runs low on the power scale, so it's not very expensive to keep running, and its relatively low speed should keep it cool so the user doesn't need any form of cooler maintenance. It is also highly affordable at $32, making it very cost efficient.
Secondarily I would suggest a Pentium G4500, coming in at a decent $70, you get 2 cores, and two threads …show more content…

They want to keep the cost of the entire build under $650 for the computer. They do not need a monitor, speakers, mouse, or keyboard. “Just the tower” is what they tell you. The family member tells you they surf the web, run Microsoft Office, and Quickbooks for their business. It is always on and usually running these three apps at the same time. The kids never use it. What CPU should they use? Explain your answer and use references to your spreadsheet. I would recommend the AMD Atholon X4 860k, its a 4 cores with 4 threads, enough to handle the web, office, and quickbooks all at once. It has a total of 4 mb of cache which is plenty enough to not choke up when using many programs at once. Coming in at an excellent, $65 it can well fit within the budget restraints.
Secondarily I would suggest a I-3 6300k, it has 2 cores and 4 threads with a base speed of 3.8 GHz, making it more than powerful enough to run a web browser, and any office program. Backing all that up with 4mb of cache makes this computer very good for keeping up with running multiple apps at the same time. At $149 it fits nicely in the family members
