I hope you’re good, I was wondering if I could trouble you again to assist me with another Ride along for another new nurse member Christopher Camilleri (34889). The first nurse that did the Ride along, Sandy Foster, spoke very highly of 22 Division and her experience and I suspect it has a very positive influence on the other new member. When I asked the new nurse member, Christopher Camilleri to pick a Division for his Ride along he also mentioned 22 Division. This exercise is quite beneficial to the member as it will allow him to get a better understanding of the Police Duties, as long as it does not disturb your daily operations. I realize this is the second time in a short period of time… I thank you very much in advance for your
Have you ever heard of rodeo? I’m sure you have but did you know that it’s a mixture of many events such as Barrel Racing, Bull Riding, and many, many more. In the text below I will be walking you through who invented rodeo and a couple of events in rodeo.
The Iowa State Fair Queen is, in my opinion, one of the most influential women for the State of Iowa. She serves her state proudly and represents the youth in a way nobody else can! The State Fair Queen is the heart and soul of Iowa, and proves to be an outstanding role model for the youth and all communities. By being selected as my county’s Fair Queen, I am beyond grateful to be able to be in the running for the 2015 State Fair Queen. I adore being there for others and lending my hands wherever I go. I am constantly on the go as traveling is a love of mine, as well as public speaking. In the future, I plan on going into Communications with the intentions to help others and being someone they see as someone to go to. The Iowa State Fair is a
Raise your hand if you are a parent. To all the parents that raised their hands, think back to the time you and your spouse were in the hospital room anxiously waiting for your unborn child to arrive. How happy were you when the nurse placed your baby into your arms? That feeling of seeing your healthy newborn baby for the first time is unexplainable, but how would you feel if your newborn was born prematurely or had birth defects?
identify the educational preparation and role(s) of the clinical nurse leader (CNL) designation. Give an example of how the CNL influences direct patient care whether in a hospital or out in the community.
I think you did a thorough job at developing a Clinical Nurse Leader elevator speech that summarizes the CNL role in health care. An elevator pitch main purpose is to “intrigue and inspire a listener to want to hear more of the presenter’s complete proposition in the near future” (Sjodin, 2014, p.3). Your speech is very intriguing and if I didn’t already know about the role, I would want to know about it more in-depth, based on what you told me.One major thing you included in your elevator speech that I admire because it captures an important part of the CNL role is where you state, "Those facilities who have certified CNLs have seen a tremendous reduction in costs and improved patient and staff satisfaction". In this statement you
I planned on stopping by today to speak with you; however, I wanted to give you a heads up first to think about it. Friday, Jennifer’s water ruptured very early(33 weeks). We had to go to the hospital where they have to keep her until the baby is born. They are trying to keep her from having the baby by utilizing different methods of medication for at least another week so the baby can develop his lungs. However, they are going to try and keep the baby in longer if possible. The baby will go directly into a NICU because it is too early unless they can keep the baby in past 35 weeks and he is developed enough to eat and breath on his own. I highly doubt that Jennifer will be able to start on the starting date June 3rd. Today, when our doctor
The next step is dropping the death count. This could come in the form of the drug Narcan. Narcan is a drug that is to be administered (often in the form of a nasal spray) to a patient suffering from an opioid overdose. Infact according to Senator Kirk, “we are now seeing a 100 percent success rates from the lifesaving drug Narcan” (Kirk launches suburban anti-heroin task force 1 death every 3 days on average since 2012; using narcan during an overdose was 100% effective in Dupage County, States News Service). This drug has proven itself to be a saving grace to those who have abused heroin however according to Dr. Hamburg “FDA approval for intranasal naloxone [Narcan] may be another eight years away. Following current trends, an eight-year delay would result in another 1043 lives lost in Chicago's suburbs” (Kirk launches suburban anti-heroin task force 1 death every 3 days on
Scholarship. During my interview for UMMC I was asked if I had a bachelor’s in nursing to which I replied no. I was hired with the agreement that I would pursue my degree with two years of working. This isn’t the ideal way someone wants to continue his or her education. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth feeling forced to pay for more education when you are already licensed as a registered Nurse. At first you feel as though all of the hard work you put into your ADN program is worth pennies because you don’t have BSN next to your name. But then you realize, nursing is no easy task. It requires all that we have learned in this program; the valued ends, presence, praxis, self-care, leadership, advocacy and now scholarship. Having completed
In one of the most watched Ted talk videos, “The Key To Success- Grit,” recorded in May 9 2013, the speaker Angela Lee Duckworth explains how the strongest performers in their fields were typically not the ones with the highest IQ’s, but the ones with the most amount of Grit. What is that? Angela defines Grit to be the passion and perseverance for a long-term goal and to go through with it with no quitting. She then goes on and talks about the studies and their results relating to pure Grit being the answer. Although her her speech is moving and brings hope to those who don’t think they can do much with a low IQ, her reasoning seems to not carry enough evidence.
Being a leader in the profession of nursing requires pride and dedication to the nursing career path. This is why I decided to conduct my interview with Pamela Prefontaine, a leader in the nursing field. Prefontaine graduated from Bellin School of Nursing in 1982. She then went on to get her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1990 from the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. Prefontaine then graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering in 2009 with a master’s degree in medical informatics. Prefontaine was the team leader of pediatrics at Bellin from 2001-2007. She has also been a team leader of a medical and surgical floor at Bellin also. Furthermore, Prefontaine was also the assistant director of the NICU at Saint Vincent’s Hospital. She currently is a consultant for informatics.
Communication is any form of expressing and receiving of messages between individuals. The importance of Communication in the nursing profession is to maintain high quality care for the patient but also maintain effective collaboration between professionals. Boykins, D (2014) states that the “registered nurse is expected to communicate in various formats and in all areas of practice”. Various formats include speaking to patients and coworkers as well as utilizing appropriate protocols and systems to effectively communicate regards to patient’s status.
Good evening, fellow friends and…enemies. I am Franklin Thompson, *coughs* I mean, Sarah Emma Edmonds, also known as, Cuff, Bridget O’Shea, Charles Mayberry, et cetera, et cetera. But today, I’m here as plain Ms. Edmonds. You might know me from my book Nurse and Spy in the Union Army, which was published in 1864. During the dreadful war, I served as a male nurse in the Union army under General McClellan. But when a Union spy in Richmond was discovered and died before the firing squad, and my good friend, James Vesey, was killed in an ambush (rest his soul), I felt it was my duty to avenge his death. I got the spot for spy (as Thompson, of course). I loved changing my identity and going into enemy territory; it was just so exciting! Of course,
Leadership does not always come with a title or prestige. Every nurse has within themselves qualities that make them a great leader. Leadership by definition, “is a combination of intrinsic personality traits, learned leadership skills, and characteristics of the situation (Cherry& Jacob (2013 p. 335). A leader is one who has the capacity and skills to direct or encourage others in efforts to achieve an outcome. I recently completed a self-assessment on my perceived leadership abilities. The survey was called the Nurse Manager Skills Inventory (Nurse Manager Leadership Partnership, 2008). It consists of four content areas of which I will address and identify my strengths and weaknesses.
A nurse being in automatic pilot is so easy to do in this day and age, because of increasing advances in technology and the shortage of nurses. When I was read this assignment the first thing that came into mind was one of the QSEN competencies safety.
Biking is a great way of exercise, not only is it really beneficial, it can be really fun too!
