Areas of Improvement
I have many areas, which I need to improve on within nursing school. I know I need to improve on pharmacology and understanding why the medication is given and the side effects the drug may have. When looking at pharmacology, I understand some medication, but trying to differentiate why one medication is given instead of another that may ultimately do the same action for the diagnosis. There are numerous drugs in health care, it is a bit overwhelming to think we might have to know all of them or at least have a general idea of what all of them do and the side effects they have.
Another area I need improvement on is reading NCLEX style questions. When looking at the question sometimes, I will read into the questions and

In nursing school, it is important to have written goals to make it easier for us to be accountable for them. One of my S.M.A.R.T goals S: I want to practice at least a hundred NCLEX questions a week. M: I will achieve above 86 on practice exams A: This is attainable by splitting up questions throughout the week R: This will help me better prepare for the NCLEX and broaden my knowledge. T: I want to achieve this goal every week. Another S.M.A.R.T goal is S: I want to practice at least 20 pharmacology based questions a week. M: I will achieve about 86 on practice exams A: This is attainable by splitting up questions throughout the week R: This will help my knowledge of different medications T: I want to achieve this goal every week. My final S.M.A.R.T goal is S : I want to practice hands on skills at least 3 times a week M: When beginning to work I want to feel comfortable when preforming this skill on a patient A: This is attainable if I split up which skills I want to focus on each week R: This will continue to make me more comfortable with the skill T: I want to achieve this goal every …show more content…
Life never goes according to plan, but it is always important to have an outline of what needs to be done so I hold myself accountable.
Clinical Rotation Timeline
Within my timeline, I would include my SBAR, concept map and when the clinical rotation is. For my transition to practice clinical rotation we have nine SBARS and four concept maps. After my clinical rotation on Saturday, I would take the time after the rotation to complete the SBAR, when the information is fresh in my mind as well as on paper. Depending on the week, I would work on my concept map as well as and complete it and submit the assignment.
During our class readings and discussion, we learned about setting S.M.A.R.T goals, which shows how to structure your goals. After reading this chapter, I wanted to set some realistic goals for this course and this program. The S.M.A.R.T. goals that I’ve set for this course are to learn to be more

Nursing is a career which I believe that needs to come from the heart and I have at all times appreciated with respect. My aim in doing my education in nursing was because I always wanted to achieve an extended and successful profession in the health and medical field. I suppose the responsibilities of a nurse can be very demanding and frantic in certain instances but nothing can be equal to the joy and satisfaction it brings. There are many specialized areas in the field of nursing but I was particular interested in the mental health field. I have had a chance to experience mental healths nursing during one of my placements .There are a few goals which I would like to achieve within the next
Preparing for nursing school could be very stressful. I want to make sure that I am preparing for nursing school in every way. Taking Nursing School Success course has educated me on several different areas that are important to succeed nursing school. Making sure that I am organized and prepared for class early are two tasks out of several that are important as I major in nursing.
Nursing is a complex and ever changing field full of new areas to advance, learn, and grow in. Some of the institutes available for nursing studies are Harkum College and West Chester University. Kristine Balay, the nurse I interviewed, attended Harkum College for her Associates degree in Nursing and she attended West Chester University for her Bachelors degree in Nursing. She has been practicing as a nurse for about 10 years now in various settings. When she was working on a trauma unit she was required to obtain an ALS certification, Kristine admits that she was grateful for obtaining this certification because it sets her apart from others in regards to job opportunities and promotions as well as gives her confidence in situations.
What has surprised you? I think the most surprising thing about my nursing school journey has been how much I have grown and changed as a person in the past two years. I have become a much more assertive and direct person. I have a greater appreciation for the monotonous moments in my life and have learned how to not over think things and just to appreciate every moment and day for itself. Part of this group come about from clinical and part of it developed through my work experience as a nurse tech in the Emergency Department at Seattle Children’s Hospital. I personally have grown and learned a lot from the kids that I have worked with and its taught me the importance of slowing down and living in the moment. It’s also taught me that happiness is something that only you can determine. I feel that throughout all my clincials I have learned important life lessons from the people from every age and stage of life. All of these lessons have helped to shape me into a more compassionate, understanding, and better therapeutic communicator with my patients and have shaped my personal nursing practice.
My experience in both my previous career in nursing and human resources has dealt with approaches in quality improvement in patient safety and different metrics in the turning up organizational behavior as well as up swinging the operations of the organizations respectively. We live in a rapidly changing world, and healthcare industry is not exempted from it. Because I will be playing an indispensable role in the future, I am very interested on the concept of quality improvement and what not and identify possible future challenges and draw lessons from healthcare organizations that has spearhead innovative changes to providing healthcare by pursuing the triple dimensions of the improvement of healthcare in general that is Improving the patient experience of care (including quality and satisfaction); Enriching the health of populations; and Reducing the per capita cost of health care.
There is no doubt that nursing is an ever changing field. Although nursing always has been about caring for others, at the present time, this field is more sophisticated and respected than in the past. Currently, there are standards of nursing practice and professional performance developed by the American Nurses Association (ANA) for American nurses to follow. However, there is some controversy about whether nursing is a profession or not. Also, in order to learn these standards as well as other norms, values, and behaviors of nursing, nursing students and nurses follow a lifelong process called socialization which is affected by many factors. Moreover, a way to learn more about these topics is to compare real nurses’ thoughts and experiences with what literature suggests. Therefore, after interviewing an experienced nurse and report on her demographics, I have been able to contrast her perspectives on nursing being a profession, the ANA standards of practice, and the socialization process to literature as well as reflect on my own thoughts and values.
This essay is going describe the skills that student nurses need to demonstrate to show that they have a clear understanding of good nursing practice. This essay will focus on four inter-related skills that complement each other in achieving goals (Barker 2007). The goal that these nursing skills seek to achieve is good nursing practice as according to Nursing and Midwifery Council’s (NMC 2008) mission of protecting the health and welfare of the public. NMC is the National Regulatory body that stipulates and regulates standards of education, training, and conduct of nurses and midwives throughout Great Britain and islands. They have published four core principles to ensure people are treated as individuals with respect and dignity
I am a nursing student. I have a great passion for caring for others. My short term goals are to graduate Riverland Community College with my Associate's Degree in Nursing this December. I plan to work very hard and prepare to take my nursing licensure exam at the beginning of next year to become licensed as a registered nurse. I will then transfer to Metropolitan State University to complete my Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
With the solid foundation and established nursing practice, the aftermath of war halted the progression of the nursing profession. As Orsolini (2009) stated, many of the women who served exceptionally during the war came home and rebuilt their lives with their families. With the shortage of nurses to keep up with the economic progress, nursing tasks were assigned to untrained people, as mentioned by Orsolini (2009). In an effort to regain the nursing status to its professional level, in 1965, American Nurses Association (ANA) and the National League of Nursing (NLN) proposed that the baccalaureate degree be the minimum entry level of nursing. By 1970, the pursuit for a higher education and a change
Nursing students have progression points to develop their skills and behaviour, these standards are set by The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). The essential skills cluster help nursing students achieve relevant stages of skills for each year of their training, including the medicine management skill. As a second year nursing student I have reached the progression point to show I can demonstrate I have knowledge of basic medication calculations, safe storage of medicines and controlled drugs, legal and ethical frameworks and symptom management (NMC, 2010).
The reoccurring theme is that education in healthcare needs to be a continued effort. A constant endeavor needs to be put forth to research and integrate evidence based practice into healthcare. It is also important to treat a person as an individual regardless the culture, race, or gender.
For as long as I can remember, I always told myself I would go to college. As a senior, I went through all the steps of admitting into a college, or so I thought. I did everything except turn in my mom’s signature to the FAFSA. Getting ready to submit the signature I realized I was not ready to spend $60,000 in a career I wasn't passionate about. Now here I am again 3 years later doing it again, most people would see this as a set back, but I see it more as an opportunity. This time I am prepared to pursue my goal of attending collage and purse a nursing career . I feel that with the opportunity your scholarship will provide I can reach my goals of taking care of others.
Expectations are defined as something that you believe will happen to you. Before nursing school, I had several expectations. Some of these expectations have shown to be very true while adapting to this new lifestyle. Other expectations have fallen to the waist side and soon were forgotten. At the time, they seemed to be very real. I expected to study, study, and study some more. I wanted the program to be challenging and prepare me to be a nurse. I expected to struggle financially because of having to reduce my days off work. I thought this would give me extra study time and I would make all As on every assignment. I hoped to form study groups to ensure that I would excel in making those grades. But, my most important expectation of myself was to stay organized and ahead on all assignments. I expected this to get me through nursing school.
