I posses many strengths that will make me a successful dietetic intern, which include my abilities to multi-task and handle stress. While working for Clovis Unified School District I received two promotions, which indicates that I have a strong work ethic and take initiative. My education and the experience I have acquired working at Madera Community Hospital have allowed me to develop a strong understanding of medical nutrition therapy and foodservice management. I also possess strong interpersonal skills, as I am always very respectful and professional when interacting and with my peers and superiors. My strong leadership and communication skills were demonstrated when I was responsible for supervising eight staff members and overseeing an afterschool program at with over 100 students enrolled. The goal of anyone who enters into the dietetic field needs to have one common interest, help those we serve by giving them back their nutritional balance they have lost. As I began my journey into the dietetic field, I thought I had a grasp on what it would take to be a professional within it. Now that I have ventured into it almost two years, I realize that the career itself and the dedication it takes is more humbling than I anticipated. As I go forward, I know I need to be open to change and open to the ideas and research around me. To better serve my clients and/or patients, I need to stay on top of the latest diets, research, surveys, education opportunities, etc. In my personal life, I believe you need to walk the walk if you are going
The career field that I am interested in is being a clinical dietitian. A clinical dietitian works in a hospital and uses medical nutrition therapy to help her patients maintain health. She may work with patients with chronic diseases that need a specialized meal plan. She may also examine the nutrition levels of her patients and determine what nutritional deficiencies they may have. The overall goal for a clinical dietitian is to maintain the health of her patients. However, issues may arise concerning this goal. The clinical dietitian will have to work hard and be determined to keep patients from losing health, especially those who are already malnourished. Issues develop regarding health maintenance when there is miscommunication between the dietitian and patient, refusal of treatment from the patient, and treatment of the patient with the wrong nutritional information.
It is very nice to meet you. It is amazing that you are so dedicated to achieving your goals. I hope that I can have the same motivation you have to get your masters. Although I know absolutely nothing about nutrition, business is my comfort zone. I took a nutrition class, but I struggled because it was all so very new to me. It seems very smart to take some classes at RCGC to save money. I think I should look into that when I decide to transfer. I wish you the best with getting your masters! I can’t wait to see what this class has in store for us.
“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love what you are doing or learning to do” – Pele. Before applying for the Nutrition Programming Internship I thought to myself how I could use my education in nutrition to fulfill this role to my highest potential. I knew that I was interested in studying, learning, and researching nutrition but one thing I failed to ponder about was how I could raise nutrition awareness to the surrounding communities in Nashville. Of course, I’ve thought about specific programs and seminars I was willing to execute but I lacked the most important skills that were important for leading and developing programs; confidence and stage presence. I always played the background role in a group or
In the past few weeks, I have attempted to exercise at least 5 times a week, challenge myself by eating more fruits and veggies, drinking more water, eating more superfoods, and getting at least 8 hours of sleep at night. I also worked on overall improving my own wellness with more meditation, winding down at night before sleeping, and dumping the processed, unhealthy foods. At the beginning, I thought this would be simple, but as days passed, I soon realized how unhealthy my usual lifestyle is and how much better I was feeling focusing more on my health. From running a mile around the neighborhood to sleeping more at night, I saw an improvement physically and mentally.
