The history of life on this earth has been a chain of interaction between living things and their surroundings. Change can be good but in this case change is bad. We as humans have been destroying our planet by air, earth, rivers, and sea with the most dangerous materials. Polluting our most precious and limited resources we have been our greatest enemy. We have created these irrecoverable effects that now everyone living on the planet is being affected but also the tissues of the living of everything is now being changed. Chemicals are sinister and a partner to radiation and here is some background information as stated in “The Obligation to Endure” by Rachel Carson pg. 466 where it lists a chain reaction of the chemical to our environment …show more content…
Obviously then, an insect that lives on wheat can build up its population to much higher levels on a farm devoted to wheat than on one in which wheat is intermingled with other crops to which the insect is not adapted”. We as humans would rather risk killing ourselves in the process with all these chemicals which makes these insects stronger which in return we would have to create even more powerful poison/chemicals, so it is basically a never-ending war but in the end, we as humans will always come to the point of lose. As we create more chemicals, these bugs become more resistant just how like in todays current time, the more we treat everything with antibiotics the more the disease becomes resistant to the point that we can’t kill off the disease we just have to allow nature to take its course as there is nothing we can do at that point. We already see this happening around the world, yet we keep on treating everything with drugs instead of using natural products that nature provided us with. Through researching this topic, there was a quote that spoke to me. It was by Bill Whittle who stated, “We are the Architects of our own demise”, this statement could be felt like echoes across the world as it is a true statement. It is because of foolish thirst for money and power that we are destroying our precious resources at the cost of dominating the earth instead of protecting and
“Along with the possibility of the extinction of mankind by nuclear war, the central problem of our age has therefore become the contamination of man’s total environment with such substances of incredible potential for harm-substances that accumulate in the tissues of plants and animals and even penetrate the germ cells to shatter or alter the very material of heredity upon which the shape of the future depends” (Carson, 1962).
In the biography Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand, a troubled adolescent boy named Louis Zamperini revolves his life around his running career. Starting at such a young age, running had many impacts on Louie’s life. The high demand of training kept Louie distracted from making unintelligent choices he had previously been making. Running changed the young teenager he was and the man he was going to become.
Passing Nella Larsen's novel, Passing, provides an example of some of the best writing the Harlem Renaissance has to offer. Nella Larsen was one of the most promising young writer's of her time. Though she only published two novels it is clear that she was one of the most important writers of the Harlem Renaissance movement.
According to research, once the chemicals are released into the air, water, or the soil, it can cause a decline in health, which can possibly result in death. About three quarters of the chemicals that comes out
Following the industrial revolution, societies across the world began to notice strange effects on individuals throughout certain local communities. Though toxicology was a relatively new and rudimentary practice at the time, scientists were able to trace these effects back to chemicals being exposed to industrial workers, their families, and nearby neighborhoods. Unfortunately, industry in the United States continued to expand with little regard for the effects on human health. As a result from this expansion the amount of chemicals released into the atmosphere skyrocketed continuously all the way to present day society. However, as industry expanded so did scientific technology, the understanding of chemicals, their exposure
Genetically modified crops are being developed to produce their own pesticide. This will bring the rapid appearance of resistant insects. Even worse, these pesticide producing plants have killed some beneficial insects and pests that many farmers use in their crops. For example, inserting a gene from a snowdrop, a perennial herb found in Europe and Asia into a potato, made the potato resistant to the green fly, but killed lady bugs that feed on green flies.
The author’s message for the NSC-68 document pertained to the Soviet Union wanting to gain power of the world and how the United States would be able to help defeat this challenge with the aid of other countries. After the collapse of the Ottoman, the Austro-Hungarian, German, Italian, Japanese, and the two major imperial systems, which were Britain and France. Now leave the United States and the Soviet Union to gain power. The author was trying to get a point across to the President to prepare the United States for war if unavoidable. Simultaneously, in order for the Kremlin not to gain power of the world, the United States would be required to build a friendship with the other countries. In the same way, to have freedom as well as
In our day and age, thousands of everyday things will pose great danger on individuals, families, animals, plants, and even whole species. Humans, of course, have largely identified and addressed common environmental dangers for hundreds of thousands years, proven simply by evolutionary feats. This is where the irony in human evolution is shown: we’ve spent years and years running from everything but ourselves. Our Stolen Future, Toxic Hot Seat, and Hormones Disrupted, three revolutionary new-age works based on scientific studies, depict the artificial dangers we face everyday. Though each source illustrates varied insight on these hazards in different ways -- synthetic chemicals in everyday objects, flame retardants in our homes, and bodily
In 2011, more than 66 million hectares of GMO plants were grown throughout the world. These plants were “engineered to produce a bacterial toxin lethal to some insects but harmless to people,” (Carrington 1). By altering the plant’s genes, scientists were able to design the plant in a way so it could control the pest population without the need of using as many chemicals in comparison to pesticides. Therefore altering the plant’s genes proves a method for controlling pest populations because it reduces the amount of harmful chemicals that are used. Pesticide use is dangerous to the environment because of the pollution involved. Studies have found that farmers using GMO seeds use 37% less pesticides, and since “these seeds don’t need to spray as much pesticide, which means less pesticide ends up washing off the fields and into streams” (Horowitz 2). Ultimately, pesticide pollution can endanger entire ecosystems and even threaten human lives. By significantly reducing pesticide use, there would be less dangerous chemicals to threaten local environments. As well as reducing pollution, GMO replacement of pesticides helps increase populations of pest predators. Carrington states that GMOs have the “added benefit of looking after the predators that could have been killed by the pesticides” (2). By substituting GMOs for pesticides, which kill more than just the targeted pest, farmers can help
Humans rely on a handful of species in those neat, ordered rows that somehow give the illusion that nature is manageable. In this search to control we created monocultures. Ireland showing us just how dangerous that can be with the potato blight in 1845. Yet we continue creating monocultures. In our search for control we have instead become dependent. Dependent upon among other things, pesticides. In response to this, the
A mandatory sentence is a court choice setting where legal caution is constrained by law. Commonly, individuals indicted certain violations must be rebuffed with no less than a base number of years in jail.
Chemicals released into the environment can become into something more dangerous by combining with other chemicals, which is also
Many scientific researchers have said that our environment has been filled with toxic chemicals, which us humans have had a part of. There are many different issues that should concern us surrounding these toxic chemicals. The major concern is that many of these toxic chemicals have been claimed to be causing damage to the health of humans and even other life forms. Another concern is that most of the theses toxic chemicals have just recently been produced; and by our environment changing everyday there is no telling what effects these toxic chemicals may have in the long run on the public 's health. Just about all of these toxic chemicals exist in the way they do because of humans. As humans we practice a lot of different activities that cause toxic chemicals to pollute our environment such as, agriculture, industrial, and many domestic activities as well. Many of the toxic chemicals that we produce and use don 't get used in a effective way, which causes them to be wasted, left abandoned, and disposed of. When toxic chemicals are not disposed of properly they effect the environment and the public 's health in a negative way.
Learning and knowledge are highly prized in all societies, especially here in Ireland, where there is a strong tradition of respect for education. The choices that individuals make when leaving school, in particular whether to pursue higher education or not, are likely to have a long lasting effect on their lifestyle. The main purposes for a University education involve: social, national and educational purposes and for the individual personal purposes and moral development. These topics will be addressed in the following paragraphs.
