While I’m attending college, I want to have a clear visualization of my career goal after receiving my bachelor’s degree and finishing medical school. I believe Sam Houston State University can help me achieve my goals while learning and gathering new information about how I will take the next step to achieve my goals.
My desired career is to become an Obstetrician and gynecologist. The development of a newborn is fascinating to me, as well as the brain development and how the mother and child depend on each other for survival. As an obstetrician my job would be to make sure the mother and child stays healthy throughout the time of pregnancy, childbirth, and post childbirth. If I can find a way to prevent an umbilical cord from suffocating the fetus in the mother’s womb or a child from being born premature, I will use my education and open mind to find solutions to problems that have yet to be solved. I want to save as many lives as I can, mother and child.
My main goal is to be beneficial to society and a role model to myself, my sister and other children who was told their goals were unreachable, because of their race or where they came from. I want to be independent, not relying on my parents or anyone else to support myself. If I’m not able to support myself, how can I expect to support my future family or my parents, once they can’t support themselves?
Before I can achieve my career goal, I must first achieve my educational goal of graduating from high school with my associates degree before continuing my education for two years at Sam Houston State University earning my bachelor's degree of science and finally heading to University of Texas Houston Medical Center to continue my medical pathway. I feel confident in my goal and what I will accomplish in the next 10 years. Before I am 27 I will be a successful, independent, young, black woman who has achieve their goal.
