After reading this article I agree with Tom Hallman to a point. I do believe that a story has to hold the attention of the reader. If the statement reporters who are making the leap from features to narrative often gravitate toward templates, systems or exercises at the back of a book. If all reporters wrote stories of a template they would all be the same. After a while they would not hold the attention of the reader. Stories are told in many ways. Flannery O'Connor wrote southern poems. She tells a story of a family going on a vacation in "A good man is hard to find." When she tells this story the people are waiting to see what is coming next. Dolly Parton and Tom T. Hall tells stories in there songs. Bill Cosby a stand up comedian

Narrative and expository are writing styles used to present ideas to a reader. Narrative uses story elements while expository focuses on central ideas and supporting details. The Dark Game by Paul Janeczko and The Code Book by Simon Singh both explore aspects of espionage and the importance of code, but their organization, tone, and style are quite different.
Chapter 10 & 12 of Everyone’s An Author explains to the readers that it’s extremely important for us to choose genres and write a narrative effectively. Genres are kinds of writing. It includes arguments, reports, narratives, reviews, and annotated bibliography that often assigned to students in school. Also, genres are ways of writing and speaking that help people interact, communicate, and work together. In other words, genres reflect the things people do, act, react, and interact in the particular situations. Genres help us write by defining features for conveying certain kinds of information because they provide readers clues about what type of information they may like to find from the writing process in order to help them figure out how to read centrally.

As students are exposed to various story genres at a young age they begin to learn about not only the concept of stories but also start to “draw from stories they’ve read as they create their own stories, intertwining several story ideas and adapting story elements and genres to meet their own needs” (Tompkins, 2016, p. 243). “When they read stories in traditional basal reading textbooks, they write stories that reflect the short, choppy linguistic style of the textbooks, but when they read trade-book stories, their writing reflects the more sophisticated language structures and literary style of the trade books” (Tompkins, 2016, p. 243). The five types of stories students write are: 1) Written retellings which are retold stories of familiar
When you read a story,no matter if a short story or novel, you probably don't think that the stories you read are written similar or different from other stories by other authors. From the story to the writing style each piece of literature is its own independent piece. For example “The Lesson” By Toni Cade Bambara and “A Rose For Emily” By William Faulkner are two short stories written by two different authors.

Likewise literature, narratives are found in cinema, music, and theatre. Narrative literary technique is as well acknowledged as literary devices. Narrative techniques provide profounder meaning for the reader and help the reader to use imagination to visualize events. Narrative technique consists of four main components. Moreover, it is important to identify
Journalistic sources are another example of information sources. There are many different types of journalistic sources. There are also many ideas to consider when using a journalistic source. The type of source, story, and reporter are all important aspects of a journalistic source that the communicator must consider looking out for in evaluating information on the chosen topic. Examples of types of journalistic sources are the newspaper, magazine, radio, and television. It is imperative to understand the story being told from the chosen source.
