It sank under the water and let the current pull it down stream and then suddenly it jumped out of the water like a cork comes out of a wine bottle, its eyes gleamed and its tongue darted out of its mouth and in a flash the fly was gone. “That’ll be me in a sec” mumbled Lennie hopelessly. There was a faint buzzing sound then the frog was gone as quickly as it had come. Silence once again fell on the river much to Lennie’s disappointment, he liked not having to think of the mornings happenings. “I done a bad thing… I done a bad …show more content…
“Where ever fate takes us”, George says quietly. 3 months later The house that Lennie, George had bought had undergone many changes. It had a new coat of yellow paint like the colour of ducklings, with a black roof and a chimney for the stove. The house was perfectly located in within the hills and meadows, not far from the Salinas River. It was only just hidden from civilization but felt like a mile away from anywhere. A place like this would be difficult to find but certainly not impossible. Lennie was busy tending his rabbits, with a level of dexterity and gentleness equal to that of the very best seamstress. “Hello Mr. rabbit, would you like some alfalfa…?” the rabbit moved its tiny little nose up and down. Lennie took this action to be ‘yes’ and gave the rabbit the alfalfa. “What about you Mrs Rabbit would you like- Lennie let out a deafening scream as loud as an elephant that has been poked with a hot iron sword. The rabbit he was talking to was split in two by a shotgun shell. “Lennie Small you are a wanted man and you are being charged for two murders and rape. John Steinbeck’s novel Of Mice and Men follows the journey of two men, George Milton and Lennie Small, who struggle through the navigation of working on a ranch in California and fulfilling their dreams together during a time of financial depression. The novel begins with George and Lennie traveling through the California wilderness to get to a new ranch just south of Soledad where they are going to begin new work. They had to leave their previous jobs in a town called Weed because Lennie had caused trouble with a girl by holding on to her red dress because he wanted to feel it, and this incident spiraled into rape allegations against Lennie. As George and Lennie make their way to the new ranch, Lennie; who is a large, but simple minded man; found a dead mouse and wanted to keep it to pet because he likes soft things. George, who is more serious and protects Lennie, takes the mouse away from him because even though it’s dead, he should not be messing with it. Lennie often does not realize his strength because of his mental incapabilities and as a result, he causes a lot of trouble and harm. George finds taking care of Lennie to be taxing, but he knows that their friendship is an important bond that he does not want to be without. In order to comfort Lennie in the wilderness, George tells the story of their shared dream to own their own ranch where they can follow their own rules and live as they please. When they finally arrive at the ranch the next day, George and Lennie

“On the outskirts of town, within the verge of the peninsula, but not in close vicinity to any other habitation, there was a small thatched cottage. It had been built by an earlier settler, and abandoned because the soil about it was too sterile for cultivation, while its comparative remoteness put it out of the sphere of that social activity which already marked the habits of the emigrants. It stood on the shore, looking across a basin of the sea at the forest-covered hills toward the west.”
Curley had caught up and George was in any mood to stop and look back
“Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck was a very unique book to say the least. I believe that’s why it drew me in. I found myself gasping, “awwing”, and even getting slightly teary-eyed at the end. Many different factors of the book stood out to me.

I thought the atomic bomb killed you!” Granger asks politely, “Who is this woman and what does she have to do with you?” Montag responds “Her name is Mildred Montag and she is my wife.” Granger puts his hand out as a show of respect and she shakes it firmly. “Ok, Mildred here comes the hard part are you going to accept the fact that books are going to help us rebuild this city?” Mildred responds “Yes, I do think that books will help us rebuild the city.”

“It's not a choice between life and death. It's a choice between different ways of dying” (Preiss). Of Mice and Men, winner novel of the nobel prize in Literature, by John Steinbeck, one of the main characters, George was facing the same problem as Candy whose dog got put down by one of the workers, a stranger. Lennie, the other main character in the novel is getting hunted down by Curley because Lennie didn't know his own strength and accidentally murdered his wife. George made the decision, with Candy and his dog situation in mind, instead of Lennie dying with miserable death, George would put him down with a different and a peaceful way of dying. Of Mice and Men resolves that killing, is a moral option, and should be the person’s own decision.
