Comment: The results from the FAST (Functional Assessment Screening Tool) sheet show that Joey wants to obtain social reinforcement/attention (with a total score of 8 out of 8). The second highest score from the FAST sheet was social reinforcement /escape (5 out of 8) when Joey wanted to avoid requests made by others. Thirdly Joey used this behaviour (3 out of 8) to access specific activities or items. Overall, we can see from the results from the FAST sheet, as well as the ABC observation form, that during classroom instruction and individual assignments, Joey is using his off task behaviour most likely to get attention from his teacher and indirectly his classmates. In Joey’s assessment for off task behaviour, there will be no …show more content…
Joey’s reading materials will remain on his desk for the entire session and will not be removed due to off-task behavior (Shumate, Wills, 2010, p. 33). Data Collection Method: Time Based Method, Interval Recording, Whole Interval will be used to collect data as we are interested in the behaviour that occurs during the entire interval. Interval recording is flexible and provides useful data particularly for off task behaviour. It is broken down into intervals or blocks of time, and observations are marked separately for each interval. Since we would like to get Joey to be on task, we want to know how long each type of behaviour lasts (on/off), we will therefore require a method to ensure each duration. Another consideration is to make it as easy as possible since the teacher is busy and has other students to consider (ear bud, please see materials). Lastly, but importantly, we need the information to be useful to our particular situation as our goal for Joey is to be on task most or all the time. Joey’s behaviour is non-uniform so whole interval method was chosen, as it will provide better data concerning time on/off task behaviours even though this method puts more demand on the
Functional behavior assessments are very useful to teachers because they will help to identify reasons for inappropriate behaviors of a student. Not only will the assessment peal back the layers of a student's behavior but it can also reveal how to change the inappropriate behavior. Students with disabilities will have inappropriate behaviors in order to communicate with the teacher and adults involved in their day. These behaviors could appear for something as simple as the disabled students refuses to write down what they were asked to, because they are not able to spell or write a word. Students without disabilities may also behave in an inappropriate way because they may not be able to spell or write a word. The functional behavior assessment will guide a teacher to know what subject or even what part of a subject is challenging to a student.
My main discovery from examining the Time Monitoring Worksheet was that over the three days, I had a large amount of free time. Each day I found that I had about seven hours of free time during each day, although since that was during time off from work the actual number is closer to around three.
Rachel has several unwanted behaviors that need guidance on how to change o modified in her science class. From the case study, it's notable that Rachel rarely pays attention as she dedicates most of her time talking to her classmates. Moreover, she doesn’t follow teachers orders on how questions should be answered in the class in that she bursts with her answers. To add on to her behavior, she lacks the basic
The behavioral challenge can be a problem emanating from the school circles or home. If for unknown reason Nigel is not able to provide much information, direct observation will be ideal. ABC analysis becomes appropriate preliminary means of data collection as opposed to baseline study given that the intention will not be to identify the
In the overall Compliance Probe, based on readings from (Rhode, 1995), the student observed, followed directions 75% of the time. The student was actually adept at following directions. However, the behavior chart illustrated a more accurate picture of the classroom disruptions normally observed with this student. T.P. has more disruptive off-task type behaviors such as talking out, arguing and fighting with peers, breaking items that belong to others, and stealing. 6th grade students would benefit from the use of the behavior chart because behavior can be observed as time off task, which directly relates to the undesired behavior mentioned above. If the student is on-task, he is not talking out, arguing, or causing other mayhem. The behavior observation chart is also able to offer insight into the behavior compared to other students in the same class. In this case, T. P. was on-task 45% of the time while his peer was on-task 90% of the
The assessment of the FAST assessment was conducted by Richards special education teacher Mrs. L. According to Mrs. L answers on the FAST it demonstrated that his area of potential source of reinforcement is escape from task or activities. Based on the given questions, the answered that we replied with a “yes” answer mostly showed that Richard is his behavior escalates when he is given a task he is not a willing participate to complete. Also, the FAST showed how Richard is selective of the activities that he will participate based on his preference of the activity. Mrs. L answers in the questions demonstrate how Richard will participate in selective academic activities. Based on the FAST responses, Richard’s behavior
The school counselor described that every year Richard performed exceptionally well on standardized tests; however, he performed poorly on assignments and achievement tests and had terrible penmanship. His reading level was proficient, and he was talented in physical education and art. Yet, Richard was easily distractible, disruptive in class, and highly disorganized. Richard also struggled in mathematics and socially because he did not get along with his classmates. Although he remained in his seat in the fourth grade, Richard had difficulty remaining in his seat and touched his classmates’ belongings constantly in the first and second grade. Although isolation, structured classroom environment, and consistent negative consequences improved Richard’s behavior at school, the school counselor was concerned because he still performed at a level below what was expected of him. Additionally, his distractibility and difficulty following directions occurred in the classroom, at home, and during baseball. Thus, based on the wide variety of inconsistencies in his behavior, the school counselor may have suggested that Richard should receive
An instructional intervention that could better Joey’s behavior would be to use a sticker system. I agree with Gongola (2010), I would need to monitor Joey’s behavior and progress. If his behavior changes for the worse, I would increase the criteria before giving him incentives. I would put a chart on the corner of his desk with it labeled “Great Behavior.” Before the day ends, we would quickly conference on how his day went. Depending if he raised his hand, spoke not so loud the
Blake M. was the subject of this behavioral study. Over the course of four days, I watched him during class and wrote it down. This included clothes, hair, how he was sitting, if he moved often, and many other things. Then, I interpreted my observations and came up with some theories about his behavior.
Therefore, it is possible that using interval timer photography for all of the images would produce a more accurate result, as human error is largely removed as a problem in the timing stage, although issues are still possible when setting up the equipment. Moreover, this improvement is also only based on three images, a small sample size and an unfortunately anecdotal suggestion. However, it would be an extension to see if a repeat of the observation produced the greatest accuracy with interval timer photography images a second time round, which would suggest that the most accurate result can be achieved with this
Individuals experiencing tension, bipolar confusion, sadness or other psychological instabilities utilize medications and alcohol to facilitate their affliction. Dysfunctional behavior is such a weight for a few people they will attempt pretty much anything to diminish the agony. Medications or liquor can briefly make that individual feel 'typical' once more, similar to they felt before. Psychological instability is alarming for the individual encountering it, so they are reluctant to go to a specialist or relative for help and rather swing to medications or alcohol to attempt and take care of the issue alone. Individuals see relatives, companions, good examples or performers utilizing drugs and justify that they can as well. As adolescents
Jake is a sixth grade student who has recently been demonstrating very disruptive behaviors in his reading class. He talks while the teacher is teaching and putting out information, gets out of his seat and often taps loudly on his desk while others are trying to work. The school behavioral specialist conducted interviews and a brief functional analysis was done and it concluded that jakes behavior appears to be an escape from tasks he doesn’t want to do and allows him to get attention that he want to have. The hypothesis given by school district BCBA was that Jake’s behavior is linked to his need for social attention and it positively reinforced by the teacher reprimanding Jake, thus giving him the attention he wants.
When provided with 1verbal redirection from his classroom teachers, Johnny will remain on task for 15 minute intervals, during 4 of 5 attempts.
On Sunday at church they talked about Busyness and that most of us are being distracted from what is important in life. We were asked if we had distractions in our lives and I raised my hand. Towards the end we were asked to go home and make a list that we felt were distractions in our lives and last night I was having a hard time sleeping because after hearing what was said on Sunday it really has made me look at my busyness and distractions. I made that list last night of what I felt was distracting me and I found a commonality on my list. I looked at that list and thought to myself when did these become such a distraction that it is taking away from my work, and home life because I was so distracted by trying to avoid them and pretend
