Oklahoma funded program 9: Lead to Read. LTR had 36 AmeriCorps members serving schools in Lincoln, Osage, Logan, Creek, Pawnee, Okfuskee, Payne and Carter counties. LTR members were assigned to local districts and provided one-on-one and small group literacy instruction to k-3 students in need of remediation (OCSC, 2015).
Through the OCSC. the LTR program was established. Public School programs and in particular literacy programs are one of the most prolific areas for AmeriCorps service (Simon, 2002). Members are assigned a site supervisor for them to report to and look towards for support. Members are then placed in classrooms and work with students who do not benchmark on initial assessments. Members utilize their training and other resources to provide individual and small group intervention. Members track the time spent with students throughout the school year and report using time sheets. Students are assessed two other times throughout the year for progress monitoring and that data is sent to the LTR director. For the LTR program, members are provided a living allowance of $6,525 for ten months. Members can serve up to four years at 900 hours per year and an education award of $2,865 for continuing education each year. Members have seven years to use their education award and for those over 55 years of age, they can gift their earned award on to their children, grandchildren, or foster children. There has been limited research conducted on AmeriCorps programs in schools, and for schools to continue to utilize members as interventionists, research needs to be completed on AmeriCorps programs to evaluate program effectiveness. The LTR sites utilize two of the state adopted assessments. Half of the sites use STAR or STAR Early Literacy and DIBELS to collect student outcome data (M.Parnell, personal communication, September

The United States Army Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps, abbreviated JROTC, was established by the National Defense Act of 1916. JROTC serves as a character and leadership development program for the United States’ high school students. High school students enrolled in JROTC are called “Cadets.” There are approximately 314,000 Cadets enrolled in JROTC in 1,731 high schools, drove by 4,000 retired Army Instructors. In the beginning, through the JROTC program, high schools were able to use federal military equipment and assign active duty military personnel as instructors for their classes. In 1964, the Vitalization Act opened JROTC up to the other branches of the military and also replaced most of the active duty instructors with retired members of the armed forces, who worked for and are cost shared by the schools. Title 10 of the U.S. Code declares that “the purpose of Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps is to instill in students in United States secondary educational
It supports a broad range of local service programs that engage thousands of Americans in intensive service to meet critical community needs. It also works with the governor-appointed state service commissions to provide grants to public and non- profit organizations that sponsor service around the country. They have grants that assist these groups in recruiting, training and placing AmeriCorps members to meet critical community needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment. The purpose of it is to engage AmeriCorps members in direct service and capacity-building to address the community needs. They say that local programs design service activities for a team members serving full
The child will be continually assessed in various ways, with the teaching assistant helping the teacher to do this. These assessments could be during play, social interaction or through structured learning.
For instance, funded by the U.S. Department of Education TRIO Grant, the UB Program for English Language Learners (ELL) at Rowan University focuses on providing college preparatory activities and supportive services to low income students in grades 9 or 10 who are able to maintain their GPA at 2.0, who are highly recommended by their teachers or counselors, and who have the desire for higher education (Rowan University at Camden, 2015). The Rowan UB Program continuously identifies and recruits competitive students who are interested in learning English as their preparation for their future academic success and postsecondary attainment.
The state of Texas is an individualistic and traditionalistic state. Texas is ranked the second largest state in the United States. According to Rolling Out, Americorps works with 292 schools in 27 American cities. The Americorps mentors work with elementary, middle, and high school students in the community with the goal of helping them graduate. Their work can range from tutoring to acting as a student mentor or even as a role model.
The Response to Intervention framework is a critical element of the Westside Elementary to meet the individual instructional needs of our students. The school utilizes universal screenings to access all students reading data in grades one through five, three times throughout the school year. Primarily, two assessments, STAR and Aimsweb data, determine the pathway of the students and the services deemed appropriate, including teacher information and collaboration with the MTSS team. The students partake in the assessments three times a year; fall, winter, and spring. Tiers are not stagnant; students may receive services from multiple tiers, depending on instructional, academic, and environmental needs. Therefore,
The results were used to review students’ progress and to determine which concepts needed to be worked on. Most schools are using more than one form of assessment. This is good, because if one assessment cannot determine what area(s) a student needs to improve in than the other ones might be able to. The Response to Intervention/Instruction tool requires active collaboration and teamwork from the principals, school psychologist, classroom teachers, and reading or math specialist. Without everyone being involved and onboard with RTI standards and requirements, RTI will not be as effective as it could

The PLC will assess the effectiveness of guided math by observing student learning during instruction and by reviewing student data. Staff members should be assessing their students daily. Students will be assessed through observations, discussions, exit slips, classwork, and various other formative assessments. When the PLC reviews these assessments, they can immediately provide feedback to the educators on which strategies to implement and which resources would be beneficial for specific students. They will also provide feedback to students to address areas of strengths and weaknesses. In order to provide student feedback, staff members will turn in evidence of learning from their students. Monthly, educators will select an assignment or assessment to turn into the PLC for data review. The PLC will review the work samples, assess the learning that took place, and provide feedback for the students as well as the teacher. PLC members will then evaluate the data together during a meeting and then meet with the teacher to reflect on the assessment. Rather than handing the work samples and feedback to the teacher without a conference, PLC members will reflect their own thoughts on the results with the educator. This will give the educator a chance to discuss his or her own findings with data and ask for suggestions from the PLC. These meetings will take place once a month so that the
While browsing on my Facebook newsfeed, I came across City Year. City Year is an education-focused nonprofit organization that helps students succeed in school at beyond. Last year I had the pleasure to serve the community of Orlando, Florida and be part of the Universal Orlando Foundation team at Memorial Middle School. During the school year, each City Year AmeriCorps Member was placed in a classroom and around 15 students were assigned to each team member. The overall goal of the year was to make sure each student improved their grades and behavior. However, the situation was tricky: each member was paid around 13,000 before taxes, there is no monetary compensation for relocation and we were expected to work more than 50 hours per week.
All AmeriCorps service activities will take place in the United States or U.S. territories only.
