Assignment Our assignment was to research benefits for online degree programs and benefits for residential degree programs. We are then supposed to tell our stance on the issue.
I There are many reasons for online degree programs. My class came up with numerous good, solid reasons in favor of getting a degree online. They are as follows:
• Less costly
• No commuting
• Ability to work classes around schedule
• More focused use of time
• Specialized degree programs (with no general education requirements)
• Credits transfer
• Flexibility in completing assignments
• Don’t have to sit in a classroom
• Faster completion possible
• No “campus drama”
• Same quality education as face to face
• More career options
• Interactive and engaging

For flexibility, we realized that the student would have flexible classes. They would be able to work whenever they needed to wherever they needed to. For example, if an online student had a job, family, or both, they would be able to pursue their degree while also taking care of their family or working. They would be able to complete their classes wherever there was an Internet connection. My last category was student experiences, and numerous reasons fit under this heading. To begin, there are actually more interactions with students when they take an online class because they need to interact with the teacher and other students more. Online classes also teach students discipline and time management skills since the work load is done on their own time. There are numerous reasons for online classes; my class came up with copious reasons and then I categorized the reasons into four key components: money, opportunities, flexibility, and student experiences.
II My class listed many online sources where they found helpful information regarding the benefits of residential colleges. Combining some of my class’s resources and some I found on my own, I came up with one major benefit of residential colleges: most of the learning in college happens outside the classroom and residential colleges allow that type of learning to flourish. One way that students learn outside the classroom is by doing group projects. While online students can do group work, they do not have
Community Colleges tend to have fewer students per class, which means more attention from teacher to student. This is good for students who like access to their instructors so they can ask questions and avoid getting lost in the course material. Universities are bigger than community colleges and it takes a little longer to find your way around campus. Most teenagers graduate from high school eager to leave their parents house and do grown up things. The benefit of attending a University is living on campus instead of your parent’s home. Not all universities have dorms, but the majority of them do. Which you have to pay for parking, fitness center, laundry and other fees included. Both university and community colleges sponsor
Freeman Hrabowski’s informative essay explores all the benefits that one might gain from attending college. College opens doors to many different and unique experiences in the workforce as well as the networking world. The more people one knows in college, the more options they will have when deciding what they would like to pursue in life. Hrabowski goes on to say that, “Yes, colleges prepare people for jobs, but more critically, they prepare people for life. A
Everyone has their own learning styles. Going to school online might not be cut out for a person that needs to be face to face with an instructor. Or a person that has to have on hands training might not want to attend an online campus. It’s a tough decision when you have to make this decision on how you want to continue with your education. An education is an education, so it’s better to have one than not to have one at all. So it all really boils down to you making that decision based on how you interpret your learning skills. For me, online is what fit in my current life style. It’s convenient, comfortable, and less expensive. The
Another benefit of college is the education that one receives. Not only does one learn about a specific field that other people only have general to no knowledge about, but they essentially become a specialist in a few areas. College forces people to pick their main interests and focus on them. The further they take their education, the more knowledgeable they become in particular fields. Picking a major and minor (sometimes double major and double minor) narrows choices when employers are seeking workers because they want people with a specific skill set, and specific knowledge. Most degrees can give students the opportunity to obtain high paying jobs.
A respectable college education gives people the advantage to lead themselves in any direction they want to proceed in life. College is a time that students can truly become individuals. They have the opportunity to become more independent and to take on new responsibilities. The bonuses of a college education include more self-confidence, greater economic stability and security, and it makes you a major contributor to the greatest nation on earth.
In order for students to be able to take college courses online, they need some type of way to organize themselves and push themselves finish their work since their teachers really can’t (Bird). In a physical classroom, teachers are able to move around and be able to answers questions right then and there, but with online schooling students would have to wait a while to get a response from their teachers if they have questions (“Key”). The dropout rate for online schooling in very high, mostly because students don’t know how to prioritize their school schedule and don’t know how to be self motivated (Bejarano). Learning independently is very challenging, and students may become discouraged when they have to face challenges with learning online by themselves (Bejarano). Online learning would not be a good option for students that can’t self motivate and can’t focus
I feel that the education you receive from online learning is the same material that is taught in the traditional way. This material is just presented in a way that is better for modern students. Traditional learners however, may also lack the skills to be effective learners. For students who take traditional classes over online classes may lack motivation to be independent learners. In spite of these differences it is safe to assume that both sides want students to enjoy and excel in school no matter if it is traditional or online. Both sides are obviously concerned about the importance of education. Otherwise the argument over whether traditional or online learning is better would not be a debatable issue.
Online classes and the traditional classroom setting both offer many of the same advantages. They both provide the student with the same course content so there is no loss of curriculum between the two. Both demand the same time investment for learning, studying, taking exams, completing papers, and so on. Although it seems easy to think that with doing all of your school work online there isn’t any personal interaction with professors and peers, however, that is a common misconception. Online classes, like traditional ones, require a degree of contact with your peers and professors. It may not be as personal interaction as raising your hand and being called on, but you can e-mail your professor at any time and there are discussion boards and forums available for fellow students to communicate and help each other out.
So, you have decided you want to go to college. Do you know what your options are? Read on to get a brief look at what these options have to offer and see what the pros and cons of each choice are. Every student is different and is looking for the type of college that fits them the best. Learning style and personal study preferences tend to assist in making the right choice. Attending college on a campus or online have similar outcomes but differ in how students attend class, complete class work, and interact with teachers and classmates. The decision is yours to make.
The positive of online classes is being able to access the class in any free time. Most online classes though, require work to be turned in on certain days and times. Which makes it harder for students to remember when assignments need to be done. The pleasure of the instructor reading/lecturing the textbook material out loud won’t be there. It
In addition to being able to actively communicate with your professor online, students are able to work at their own pace. For online graduate programs, an assignment will be given, and the student has to turn it in before the deadline. Students do not have to worry about what time they work on the assignment as long as it is turned in on the date it was requested. This is beneficial for people who are trying to manage a job and attend school at the same time. Since many people have to pay for graduate school themselves, they are often forced to work full time. Due to this, there are often scheduling conflicts between work and graduate school. Students who attend graduate school
People can take online courses these days. It is a chance for most people to get online courses on their own place. Students have the capacity to look over many diverse programs that would help them with their needs. Nowadays, most of the programs are available online from each department like business, management, and information technology. Additionally, students can browse different sorts of degree. The online courses have lower costs since they do not buy textbooks; they can downloads all assignments and all different materials that are required for their classes. Another benefit of these online classes is saving time since students do not have to attend classes, so they might have more time to do their assignments and study. Online classes evacuate the anxiety by permitting learners to study when it is helpful for most learners would like to study at different time. Likewise, students at schools have to take their exams and quizzes on the day their instructor planned for , but
In general there are benefits, and harms of online education. Online courses and programs can be very beneficial in some cases, however harmful to some in a long run . Yes online education can help individuals such as parents and low income to pursue a higher education without have to worry about finance and time. In the case of parenthood, parents have to stay home with their kids, and there is no other ways for them to continue a higher education beside the internet, and in this situation it is understandable. Also students with low income can not afford money to attend college and online courses are a good start for those individuals. However there are people who can financially afford for college, but prefer to take online classes, which would not give them the real life experience and the interaction between each other. Beside that online courses do not give a person to person interaction, there is also more work assigned to do then what a traditional classes gives. And responsibility tend to be higher as well, because no one will be reminding a student what to do and what is due which results in
Andrew Simoncelli once said, “Students who take online classes must be motivated, independent learners.” This is relevant because independence and motivation is what it takes to succeed in an online course. Online learning will not only expand what students learn, but will also bring a number of positive changes in the way students are taught. Courses online have changed everyone’s look at learning all over the world. It allows more opportunities for observers to learn online rather than learning in class. Another affirmative of taking an online course is flexibility and convenience. Students who would like to experience some of these ideas should look into an online class!
Time for a face to face class is very difficult if a person works 40 hours a week but an online course can put an ease on the time restriction because the person does the work at their own pace and time. It is also easier to sign up for an online class than a class at a college. Message boards are in use if the students need to leave a question or a comment about the subject their on. They also save time by not traveling to the college and trying to find a parking space.
