Have you ever pondered about learning? Not all of it happens in a classroom. Though most of it does, obtaining new knowledge comes from the world around you and it aids in various ways other than being ranked among your peers.
Yes, learning classroom curriculum allows for good grades and scholarships, but attaining common sense opens the door for something much bigger... an open mindset. An open mindset is when your perspective ,as a person, is set to look at more than one option or solution to any given situation. From my personal experiences, I recieve an open mindset from participating in our school’s Gifted and Talented program for the past seven years. Since joining the program, my thought process has broadened to seeing every outcome
The first step is to recognize the power and limits of the models. The second step is to test the relevance of the mental models against changing environment and to generate new models. The third step is to overcome inhibitors such as lack of information, lack of trust, desire to hold on to old patterns, and the expectations of the others. The final step is to implement the model, assess the model and continuously strengthen the model (Crook, Wind, Gunther, 2005, p. xxiv).
Today is a new day that has been handed to you for shaping. You have the tools, now get out there and create a masterpiece. ~Steve Maraboli
I was this person. You know, the minute somebody tried to give me constructive criticism, I shut down. I build this wall up and my husband would be the first to tell you. Him and I batted heads for probably majority of our marriage because of this. He is that “teaching leader mode” and it’s my husband.
The first skill that students and citizens need to develop in order to compete in the “flat world” is the ability to “learn how to learn”. To “learn how to learn” is the ability to continuously absorb information and knowledge and then use that information to teach yourself how to do old things at a new or futuristic level.
Given my voracious appetite for learning, I value taking a holistic approach which entails actively learning both inside and outside of school. In fact, my academic excellence – attaining a 97% average in grade 12 thus far –
This phrase/quote depends on our Mindset. For example, people have Fixed mindset and some have Growth Mindsets. For fixed mindset, people believe that they have basic qualities. For instance, their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed characters. If they have a lot, they’re all set, but if they don’t... If you have only a certain moral character, then you’d better prove that you have a healthy dose of them. They also believe that talent alone creates success. The effort is seen as useless if they don’t ‘get it’ then it suggests that they lack the intelligence. Challenges are avoided, as to fail suggests that they ‘lack the intelligence’ required. Getting things wrong and receiving feedback is also seen as negative if it reveals limitations.
I believe that in life you have to have a positive mindset on the things you do. Having a positive mindset will influence the things that you do. If you are constantly being negative then negative things will happen to you, but if you are positive, positive things will happen to you.
My parents encouraged me to learn on my own, which enabled me to develop into my own person. The only life lesson stated numerous times to me by my parents is, "respect is something that can take a lifetime to build, and can be lost in a second." The first time I heard this saying it went in one ear and right out the other, but after each repetition I began to understand the importance of respect. Now I feel respect it defines my character, and will define my legacy.
My background and the environment in which I was raised has shaped me into an openminded person. I was born in Turkey and moved to America when I was four years old. I grew up being influenced by my father’s British culture and my mother’s Turkish one, but I was also exposed to many different cultures at my school. I go to an International School in Houston and I have constantly been surrounded by members of different countries and exposed to the celebration of multiple cultures in performances and festivals throughout the school year. The city of Houston is a meltion pot of many different types of people from all over the world, and the celebration of these cultures has helped me realized that everyone, no matter their race, creed, and gender deserve equal rights and opportunities.
There are many factors that play make ne successful in life. However, some factors play a more important role than others do. I believe one factor that makes one successful in life is having a positive mind-set. I believe that a person’s mind-set is the most crucial factor that will determine whether they end up being successful or not.
Learning, as defined by Slavin (2012), is “a change in an individual caused by experience” (p. 116). Learning can occur intentionally or unintentionally. All learning, however, is stimulated by something that is the learner (student) has encountered. As an instructor, your goal every day is to use the right stimuli to capture the student’s attention so they can absorb the knowledge you are trying to share.
As Daniel J. Boorstin said, “Education is learning what you didn 't even know you didn 't know.”
Under this paradigm, students become "active discovers and constructors of their own knowledge". Knowledge construction, communities of learners, individual and collective discovery and problem solving: these will be important qualifiers for education
Learning is on a continuum that does not stop but constantly changes and develops for both teachers and students. Learning is more than memorizing facts; it is about
Learning takes place not only in the classroom but also in our everyday lives. This is because to learn does not mean just to gain academic knowledge. Rather, learning refers to acquisition of any kind of knowledge that can give us instructions on how we should behave. Information that we get in the classroom is, without any doubt, useful and proven and it can broaden our mind. However, school years are relatively short in terms of a life span, and, therefore, there are a lot more things that can be
