2.5 Operation efficiency of the equipment and network performance
A well-qualified and trained maintenance machine operators and maintenance technicians are very crucial to improvement of electricity network performance. They collect information from non-automated equipment in the substations or factories, and they report occurrences (Nakajima, 1988). Most of the minor maintenance tasks are handled directly by operators instead of the maintenance team that stay distance away from the substations or factories. Thus, flexible, co-operative and shared responsibility approach among production and maintenance personnel is required to promote operator ownership and free up maintenance personnel to perform personnel to perform more technically

In addition, regulation should be accepted to regulated companies and maximize the overall welfare by promoting efficient operation (Koplakangas-Solovainen, 2002). Cubin and Stern (2006) assessed whether new regulatory laws and higher quality regulatory governance are associated with performance outcomes. They analysed 28 developing economies between 1980 and 2001 and they found evidence that good regulatory governance had a positive and statistically significant effect on per capita generation capacity.
Some researchers found that privatization does not lead to improved labour productivity, higher capital utilization, increased generating capacity, or higher output unless it is coupled with independent regulation. This arm’s regulation is expected to encourage private capital to invest in capacity in the face of a potential problem under conditions of incomplete contracts (Spiller, 1996; Schimitz, 2001). Some form of independent regulation can provide some form of independent regulation can provide reassurance to investors that prices, outputs will not politically have manipulated.
It could be argued that the greater the share of the benefits the regulated network companies are allowed to retain, the greater their incentive to make efficiency savings and, hence, the greater their incentive to make efficiency savings to be eventually passed on to consumers (Cambini and Rondi, 2010). On the
The week four individual paper addresses the implementation of Activity Based Costing (ABC) by Super Bakery, Inc., a virtual corporation founded by Franco Harris. Specifically, management strategies, the reasoning behind an ABC system, and the alternatives of a job order cost system or a process order cost system are assessed for this enterprise.
One of the main themes that Brave New World tries to get across is that efficiency is not necessarily a positive thing, especially in terms of the contemporary world and it’s constant improvement of technology to make life as convenient as possible. The author, Aldous Huxley, wrote a letter to George Orwell in 1949. "I feel that the nightmare of Nineteen Eighty-Four is destined to modulate into the nightmare of a world having more resemblance to that which I imagined in Brave New World. The change will be brought about as a result of a felt need for increased efficiency"(18). Huxley implies that even though we want everything to be as efficient as possible, it is not necessary. The book itself goes even further to show that efficiency can actually be dangerous when it is the main priority of a society.
In Judith Butler’s article “The Values of Difficulty”, in which she wrote in response to Denis Dutton’s article “Language Crimes: A Lesson in How Not to Write, Courtesy of the Professoriate”, she argues that complex ideas require complex language to develop societal change and challenge common sense. Butler shows how difficult language us useful, but I disagree with her overall claim. I do not think that intricate wording is needed for a logical point to be made.
Understanding that heavy economic repression was unsustainable and leading to the worsening economic conditions, the liberalization reform plan aimed to decentralize markets and relax some restrictions set by the previous government. The first policy deregulated the commodity market by reversing price freezes, privatizing previously nationalized
The resistance I dealt was my household. Everyone in my household also ate out a lot. So when I was trying to cut my spending
The Australian competition and consumer commission commenced an inquiry looking into Telstra’s rural monopoly in September 2016(4). They concluded that giving service providers roaming capabilities off the Telstra network may have an adverse effect on price levels and there was no evidence that there would be a decrease in Telstra’s pricing through more competition. Currently rural and regional customers benefit from the high competition in metropolitan areas because the industry has consistent Australia wide pricing schedules for their consumer services (5).
Without the net neutrality rules preventing data discrimination, for an ISP to be legally able block cut off a competitor’s direct access to their own customers is an ideal business move. Hurting a competitor’s sales while also restricting the customers access to only certain profitable services allows the ISP to once again benefit at the consumers expense. Consequently, the consumer is stuck in a monopolical situation, possessing no way to explore, much less purchase, better options for internet access because they can’t access any of their current ISPs’ competitors. In turn, the consumer is forced into steeper prices because they have no way of reaching better services (2). Ironically, situations where larger companies can weed out all of their competitors for complete control of their base has seen government intervention to restore the balance of the marketplace; however, the FCC is allowing ISPs to effectively create a monopoly over their customers. If nothing is done to combat grievous mistake of net neutrality, the ISPs will begin to make us, as the customer’s, suffer the repercussions as they have done in the

However, unbundling can benefit consumers or increase consumer surplus under any of the four conditions: 1) Consumers’ preferences are sufficiently different; 2) Consumers might benefit from the price reduction; 3) The percentage of the consumers with similar preference relative to consumers with different preference; 4) Firms have significantly low marginal cost. However, it seems that apart from the fourth one, these approaches are not workable for U.S. cable markets. Based on the following research and analysis, unbundling cable is less likely to increase consumer surplus for U.S. consumers because of the large proportion of consumers with similar preference
Operations management (OM) is that phase of an organization where inputs are put into operations to acquire required output (services) without compromising on quality. In other words operations management is also described as combining and transforming various resources in the operations sub-system into value added services in line with formulated policies of the organization. (Kumar and Suresh, 2009)
Conflict between the line operators and maintenance workers occurs when there is equipment breakdown. Often there is disagreement on the cause of the problem and the best way to resolve it. Lack of communication
Humans today are using much more electricity than we need to in our houses and this is impacting our world more then we realise. Although electricity is a huge advantage to humans it has the complete opposite effects on our environment. By using more electricity, we are using more of the earth’s resources and if we keep going down this road then we are going to run out. The solution for this mass overuse of energy is to build houses which are more energy efficient. Features like LED lightbulbs, insulating and even positioning your house in the correct position for natural airflow instead of using air conditioning are all ways we can help improve this problem.
Maintenance Management is an orderly and systematic approach to planning, organizing, monitoring and evaluating maintenance activities and their costs. A good maintenance management system coupled with knowledgeable and capable maintenance staff can prevent breakdown problems and environmental damage; yield longer asset life with fewer breakdowns; and result in lower operating costs and a higher quality of instruments. The term ‘maintenance’ means to keep the equipment in operational condition or repair it to its operational mode. Main objective of the maintenance is to have increased availability of production systems, with increased safety and optimized cost. Maintenance management involves managing the functions of maintenance. Maintaining equipment in the field has been a challenging task since the beginning of industrial revolution. Since then, a significant of progress has been made to maintain equipment effectively in the field.
1.) Productivity is defined as the relationship between resources used and results achieved¹. Improvement in this area means either obtaining more and better program output from a given level of resources or using fewer resources to maintain or improve a certain level of output. The federal government has a vital stake in improving the productivity of state and local governments for two primary reasons: (1) the national economy is strengthened as a result of improvements in the productivity and fiscal prospects of this key sector; and (2) the effectiveness and efficiency of the multitude of federal grant and regulatory programs using state and local governments to implement federal policies are directly related to the management capacity
In the engineering world, there are two ways to come up with a solution to solve a problem. There’s the ‘effective’ method, which is a solution that simply solves the problem at hand. However, simply solving a problem is never enough. Therefore, this is why we usually revert to finding an ‘efficient’ method of problem solving. Efficiency is the ultimate goal for all manufacturers and businesses as this is where the big bucks come from. It is very important that these big companies find these efficient solutions in order to minimize their losses whilst maximizing their profits. Benjamin Disraeli, a British writer from the 19th century once said that, “there can be economy only where there is efficiency”.
