The week four individual paper addresses the implementation of Activity Based Costing (ABC) by Super Bakery, Inc., a virtual corporation founded by Franco Harris. Specifically, management strategies, the reasoning behind an ABC system, and the alternatives of a job order cost system or a process order cost system are assessed for this enterprise.

One of the main themes that Brave New World tries to get across is that efficiency is not necessarily a positive thing, especially in terms of the contemporary world and it’s constant improvement of technology to make life as convenient as possible. The author, Aldous Huxley, wrote a letter to George Orwell in 1949. "I feel that the nightmare of Nineteen Eighty-Four is destined to modulate into the nightmare of a world having more resemblance to that which I imagined in Brave New World. The change will be brought about as a result of a felt need for increased efficiency"(18). Huxley implies that even though we want everything to be as efficient as possible, it is not necessary. The book itself goes even further to show that efficiency can actually be dangerous when it is the main priority of a society.

In Judith Butler’s article “The Values of Difficulty”, in which she wrote in response to Denis Dutton’s article “Language Crimes: A Lesson in How Not to Write, Courtesy of the Professoriate”, she argues that complex ideas require complex language to develop societal change and challenge common sense. Butler shows how difficult language us useful, but I disagree with her overall claim. I do not think that intricate wording is needed for a logical point to be made.

Currently rural and regional customers benefit from the high competition in metropolitan areas because the industry has consistent Australia wide pricing schedules for their consumer services (5).

Without the net neutrality rules preventing data discrimination, for an ISP to be legally able block cut off a competitor’s direct access to their own customers is an ideal business move. Hurting a competitor’s sales while also restricting the customers access to only certain profitable services allows the ISP to once again benefit at the consumers expense. Consequently, the consumer is stuck in a monopolical situation, possessing no way to explore, much less purchase, better options for internet access because they can’t access any of their current ISPs’ competitors. In turn, the consumer is forced into steeper prices because they have no way of reaching better services (2). Ironically, situations where larger companies can weed out all of their competitors for complete control of their base has seen government intervention to restore the balance of the marketplace; however, the FCC is allowing ISPs to effectively create a monopoly over their customers. Maintenance Management is an orderly and systematic approach to planning, organizing, monitoring and evaluating maintenance activities and their costs. A good maintenance management system coupled with knowledgeable and capable maintenance staff can prevent breakdown problems and environmental damage; yield longer asset life with fewer breakdowns; and result in lower operating costs and a higher quality of instruments. The term ‘maintenance’ means to keep the equipment in operational condition or repair it to its operational mode. Main objective of the maintenance is to have increased availability of production systems, with increased safety and optimized cost. Maintenance management involves managing the functions of maintenance. Maintaining equipment in the field has been a challenging task since the beginning of industrial revolution.
