The positive is that you can attend school at places such the local library at an airport and even on an airplane. The negative to this would be that because you can attend anywhere, you may tend to get distracted. The daily schedule is preset but is flexible to complete at the students own pace. Teachers are readily available via, phone, email, text and chat and provide one on one help. Students can also receive help from their learning coaches. Online students can have social interaction via video, chat and extra -curricular activities which may lower the chances of peer pressure and bullying. Online schools are cheaper as most of your school supplies you have at home, you don’t have to wear a uniform or buy special clothes and you don’t have to pay for many outside
My opportunity costs while attending Bethel University on-line program is that I have less free time to watch tv and hang out with my friends. Most of my spare time is consumed with reading and doing homework. Bethel on-line program gives me the chance to work in the comfort of my home. I do not have to get up and put on clothes to attend to school. But in the long run, it will all pay off because I will have my degree in Organizational Leadership.
With the busy lifestyles we have today, juggling parenting, working, and school can be overwhelming so having the structure of a traditional setting may work best. For some, they may prefer this organized method. Social interaction is a factor in traditional learning as well. A student would always have face-to-face interaction with his/her classmates as well as with the instructors. Some students would prefer the more instant feedback and expressions as well as to read body language of those they are interacting with. They would have hands on experiences and learning available to him/her. This learning environment would also provide extracurricular activities such as, sporting events and book fairs. For most, this way has been our only type of experience with education and for some students; a deviation from this method of learning can cause anxiety, fear, and frustration. Obviously someone who does not adapt to change easily should probably stick with the traditional education.
Every day of our lives, we make choices. Some of these choices are very difficult, while others might be so easy that they are subconscious. Each decision we make comes with a downfall. That is the next best option we could have chosen or what we call the opportunity cost of making the decision that we did!
Great post. Excellent decision on your part! It is rough being the new kid on the block. Some students don't struggle to communicate and fit in with other students. I think more times than not the main reason is an unstable environment. My family moved at least twice per school year, this made it difficult for me to fit in and make any real kind of stable relationships. When a teacher interacts with a stand alone child, I believe it gives that child significance, and other kids take notice of your attention of this child, and want approval of the same from you. When group activities take place, it is the breeding ground for interacting with others and creating friendships.
Opportunity cost is when there are multiple options for something and there are two or more that are the best or very, very, opportunity cost is the value of not doing the next best thing. for example Anthony is either going to have a bake sale or work at Arby's, at Arby's he gets a fry and a drink along with 50 % but the bake sale is estimated to make 100$-200$ and costs 50$ so Anthony's opportunity cost for the bake sail is 50$ and some food while the opportunity cost of the Arby's is 50$-150$. For Anthony to make a smart business decision he needs to know which would be more profitable in the long run: food that causes diarrhea or the foothold in the community of being a baker. When you’re deciding which is best for you. The most important factor is the education that you will be receiving. Sometimes is challenging receiving the best education possible on public schools because of the distractions. If there’s no interruptions, then teacher will have no problem teaching and you will have a pretty dissent education but that’s rear. While in online homeschool there’s no interruptions and your teacher will have a one on one interaction with you to make sure that your are learning your lessons. Also, you wouldn’t be doing the same thing as other students because is based on each individual.
